Versa tracking steps and floors during Bike exercise

I think we all know that the Versa can be confused and count things that aren't really happening when left on its own.  For example, when I drive my car on the track, it counts steps.  I get that this can happen and accept it as a limitation in the technology given it may not know the specific activity I'm doing.

But yesterday I did a mountain bike ride and manually started a Bike activity on the Versa.  During the 1 hour ride Fitbit added several thousand steps and around 30 stairs to my daily total.  Is there a setting I'm missing in setup that would tell Fitbit to only track what's relevant to the activity?  If not, why wouldn't the threshold for what counts as a Step and Stair be raised when the Fitbit knows I'm biking because I manually started that activity?  Or even just not count them at all?

The same thing happens when I ride on a spin bike.  More than a thousand steps added per hour even though I've manually started an exercise on the Versa.

How do others who bike manage this?  I'd like my step count to be reasonably representative of my actual steps - and adding thousands while I bike leads me to just ignore steps as being meaningful.
