Versa wifi

What is the point of wifi on the Versa.  Fitbits seem to have a problem staying synced over bluetooth so when I saw that the Versa had wifi I thought great it would send my data via wifi but instead I am still restarting my phone or the Versa daily.  What does the wifi do?

According to the manual it's just:

 

"Versa uses Wi-Fi to more quickly download playlists and apps from the Fitbit App Gallery, and for faster OS updates. "
