Versa won't turn on after swimming

Anyone experience water damage after the one year warranty period? I have used my versa in water on a regular basis (swimming, showering) since I got it last July. It’s probably been in the water 50 times. Yesterday, 20 min in a shallow pool (not even swimming, just hanging out), and the watch won’t turn on!!

I know it probably can’t be replaced by Fitbit because I’ve had the watch for 13 months(ugh!!!!) Just wondering if anyone has advice or it’s even worth calling support.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Jnrin

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing that your Fitbit Versa stopped working and won't turn on after swimming with it in a pool. I totally understand how you are feeling. Before considering other options, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps including a restart from this help article: Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?

If the issue still persists, I recommend doing a factory reset. Please note that you'll need to reinstall any apps on your device after the reset, and if you couldn’t sync your device, then any data on the Fitbit device will be lost. In order to do the factory reset, please do the following:

  1. On the watch, hold all three buttons for about 10 to 12 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo disappears, quickly release the bottom right button, continuing to hold down the left and top right buttons (releasing the bottom right button as soon as the logo disappears is time sensitive).
  3. When the device vibrates, release all buttons.
  4. Wait for approximately 1-2 minutes while the device clears all data. Eventually, the Fitbit logo appears and the device boots and displays Fitbit.com/setup.
  5. Once the Fitbit.com/setup screen appears, open the Bluetooth settings on your phone and unpair the watch from the list. Then, please set up the watch back to your account with the instructions on this link: How do I set up my Fitbit device?

Let me know how it goes, I'll be around!

Hi... I have the same issue. I have been swimming twice in the 15 months I have owned my versa. Today the screen kept flickering and turned off I have charged it and nothing, completed a master reset attempt as detailed above nothing. I have now got a blank screen...

Why is this and what can I do as I don't believe that a watch that is designed and sold as waterproof upto 20m should fail to work after two swimming sessions!?

I'm having the same problem.

In and out of the pool just sitting in shallow water. Took off to charge and the screen is blank. I have tried all factory resets and nothing is working. Screen is still blank 😭

No luck. After 48 hours, I cannot even get the device to turn on. 😞

Yes this same thing happened to me and I can not get anything but a discount on a new one. I am extremely displeased. I would have not worn my Fitbit in the water if it wasn't advertised as water resistant. I bought mine in June 2018 so I am 2 months out of warranty. I did all of the resets, etc. My screen is black and will do NOTHING. I could see condensation in the back of it. I can not decide if I want to buy another one considering they do not perform as advertised. It is so disappointing bc I loved it otherwise.

Mine is also doing the same, the left button is now good as non existent after half hour swimming! There should not be an option for swimming if it is not safe to use in the pool and SHOULD not be advertised as safe to do so when it's clearly not!

Mine just stopped working yesterday and I have been in the pool many times with it on and in deeper water. First the touchscreen was having issues and now this.

If its within warranty then they will give you a new one, if it isn't then you haven't got a hope. Even though its falsely advertised. If you need to buy something else, then go with Garmin, so much better!

If its packed up after swimming then I'm afraid it's now useless.  You will need to contact fitbit, and say as it's a known default you expect them to replace it.
