I just added a manual exercise. It was a hike for a little over two hours. Then I deleted the automatically recorded walks and Sport that were there for the same time. Then I noticed a few minutes later my steps were reduced by almost 4,000. Any idea what gives?

Yes, I understand what happened. When you manually add an activity the app thinks you know best what was going on at the time (ie its own measurements were not correct) so it no longer used your recorded heart rate to work out active mi utes or calories, but uses population averages instead. In the sa,e way, it thinks the number of steps it counted might not be accurate, so uses the number an average peson of your age etc wpukd do. You obviously did more steps than the average person, so when you manually entered the activity you lost a whole heap of steps. To get the steps back, delete the activity you entered manually
