Voice cues not always working

I have AirPods and go running with my iPhone 12 and use the app on my phone rather than on my versa 2 as I like to listen to the cues for running. A friend rings me when we both run and we have a virtual run together. When she rings me I still get the voice cues. However if I ring her the voice cues work sometimes and not other times. It is very frustrating- does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Hello @Dawn58 and welcome to the Community forum.  I'm sorry, but I don't think you will get a resolution to your issue.  Many users like the voice cues, but it is an older Fitbit feature (this is why your choices are run/walk/hike).  Fitbit seems to focus on fixing issues with current features, not older features.  I'm sure you noticed that you get no heart rate data in your exercise details.  We used to get that heart rate data, but it disappeared in 2019.  Fitbit didn't fix it, despite many user requests.  Do you see where this is going?

Does this mean newer fitbits don’t have voice cues?

@Dawn58   Correct.  The Versa 3 and Sense only give vibration cues.  Both devices have a speaker, but it isn't part of the Exercise app programming.  The speaker is programmed to work with the voice assistants and on wrist calls.  Many users really prefer the voice cues.  Perhaps Fitbit will include it in a future device.

That’s rubbish. I have very bad eyesight and cannot read the times when running, so even if I upgraded it would be useless to me.

Just so I am clear voice cues on the app on the phone will not work at any time if I upgraded my Fitbit? They just work currently because I have a versa 2?
Btw I did ask about the heart rate going and never received a reply!!
