What gives with the mileage?

This may have been covered before, but I haven’t been able to find my exact problem. I’m constantly being shortchanged mileage on indoor runs. If I multiply the number of steps from the activity by my stride length it I get something pretty close to what my actual distance is, but Fitbit records something much less. I also know the distance of the track I’m running, so I can double check it that way. What gives?

@Morgvern do you start the Run exercise on your Versa? Is the GPS connected? That might be the reason. Turn off the connected GPS in the exercise settings on your Versa. Also, adjust your running stride length in the Fitbit mobile app (you can try typing custom value instead of automatic adjustment). Sync.

Yes, I start the run exercise with the GPS turned off. Fitbit is just flat out calculating incorrectly. It’s an indoor track if a known distance. If I make the calculation myself using the stride length I have set and the step count for the exercise it is acceptably close to what my distance is based on lap count. Fitbit lags by at least .1 mile for every mile, though. A run that should be recorded as ~3.5 miles gets recorded as something like 2.73 miles.

@Morgvern Fitbit will calculate the distance according to a) gps or b) stride length. Hence my post. You will need to adjust accordingly.
