What is ”pace” a measure of?

I average a 20’25” for .5 mi.  What exactly is that number a measure of. I did a three mile walk and got a variety of numbers all centered around 20-something. I'm 5’5” so I couldn't have a 20’ stride. Yet if it is time then it would add up to 1.5 mph when it actually was 3.0 mph.

@Pvtimz   That's because pace is minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer, for those who use metric measurement.  Not 20-ish minutes for the 0.5 mile.  That 20-ish minute pace converts to 3 mph, the 3 miles that you walked in that one hour.  Voilà.

Many Fitbit users want Fitbit to report speed, not pace.  Not happening from what I read.  Runners tend to compare themselves to one another using pace, not speed.

It's time. It means it took you 20 minutes and 25 seconds to walk .5 mile.

Thanks for the reply. The other day I walked 6 half-mile segments at
roughly 20 minutes each. However, the walk took one hour. That 20 min per
segment adds up to 120 minutes. What am I doing wrong?
