Why not upload non GPS activities to Strava?

FitBit Spinning activity won't upload to Strava because there is no GPS associated with it.

Why should it matter that there is no GPS activity???

My Garmin vívoactive had an indoor cycling and uploaded to Strava.

This isn't a deal breaker, but if I'm doing an activity that Strava recognizes, then FitBit should upload it

@SemSquared Thank you for visiting the Fitbit Community.

Strava will only work with GPS because it's data is needed to create the map provided. You can find information about which the data is transferred between Fitbit and Strava through this link.

Hope to see you around more often.

@EdsonFitbit I've read that link before thanks.  However, I'm coming from a Garmin vivoactive and it has an indoor cycle activity which DOES NOT utilize GPS data yet it still auto loads into Strava after the activity is complete.  So I know it CAN be done and it would be nice if the Versa which has a Spinning activity would auto upload to Strava tooIMG_1993.jpg

@SemSquared Thanks for your response.

This is actually the way in which the Fitbit integration was designed, GPS activities only.

Keep on stepping.

I have a workaround for uploading indoor activities from fitbit to strava

Do your activity as a GPS enabled activity ie: run or cycle  which will upload to strava with some gibberish GPS data relating to the location you're at.

You will only see HR and "moving time" typically a few seconds or minutes  once uploaded to strava. Edit your activity in strava to spin or workout etc and all the total times for your activity are there too.

  • ***workaround for indoor activity***

For ELMNT Bolt users (May work with Garmin as well I just don’t have one.

    1. Set your Bolt to indoor activity.
    2. Pair HR monitor.
    3. Start “ride” and do your workout, whether that be Pilates, Yoga, lifting etc.
    4. Select stop ride and upload activity to Strava.
    5. Open Strava app and save as “workout” or “yoga”

You will see HR data tracked throughout the entire workout and also calories expenses based off of HR. This is not exactly the original intent of this post but is a solution for tracking “non-gps” activities.
