Wildly inaccurate stairs count

Hi,

I recently purchased a Fitbit Versa 2.

I have noticed that the Stairs counting is activated when using a Elliptical Machine at the Gym.

I turned up at the Gym the other day and checked my Stair count prior to using the Elliptical Machine.  It read 8 which was approximately correct for the number of Stairs ascended.  I started using the Elliptical for approximately 30 minutes and on monitoring the Stairs counter on my Fitbit I noticed that the Stair count was slowly rising.  After the 30 minute Elliptical session the Stairs count indicated that I had ascended 43 flights of Stairs which was an increase of 35 Stairs when in fact I had never left  ground level during this period.  I have read other posts reported this problem and can advise that I was not near a fan or in any areas where the air pressure was changing.  Overall this inaccuracy is not acceptable for this very pricey Watch.  The reason I ordered this item was to accurately check my daily activities.

The stair counting is activated while steps are being counted.

My understanding is that Stairs count is accomplished by altitude not steps. Stairs are counted if you ascend by around 10ft.

Exactly @Gazza1954 but then any decrease in air pressure while the tracker is counting steps may produce a false floor count.
