As the title says...will you get the Versa 2? Personaly im not sure about it! Since I always got my phone with me when I workout I always got spotify to listen to. Ai Alexia I do not really care about that much. And since the Versa 2 use the same pure pulse technology as the Versa 1 aswell as the same 15 different workout options, aswell as both watches got Fitbit Pay (which I use quite a bit). One feature that makes me perhapse wanna get it is the more advanced sleep tracking. What about you guys? Will you get the versa 2?

Looking at all of the issues with the HRM function on this board, I'm not sure how many people will be shelling out for a new device that may not last even 6 months!

What do you mean HRM issues?

@PK-tarzan One thing to bear in mind is that the Spotify app on the Versa 2 is only Spotify connect. In other words you will not be able to store offline playlists on the Versa 2, instead it's an extention of the Spotify app on your phone (a remote control if you will).

I will be getting the Versa 2 as I think the Alexa support will be very useful for me, I also like the fact that the performance has also been boosted so it should hopefully run better than the original Versa.

But will version 2 be any more robust than the original? Will the screen stop cracking for now good reason (which Fitbit will refuse to replace as a cracked screen must mean that you've abused it somehow...)?
I'm on my fourth V1 Versa (all replaced under warranty) - one of the replacements failed to work on delivery...
The only advantages I see that the V2 has over the V1 is Spotify & Alexa. Spotify I can live very happily without - I don't listen to music in the gym and for anywhere else I'll have the 'phone (and if I don't it's not going to be the end of the world).
Alexa just might be useful, but I can't justify replacing a fully functional V1 for a V2 (and paying £200 for the privilege). If the V1 dies it's possible I might get a V2, but I'm not wedded to Fitbit and would look around, long & hard, at what the market has to offer at that time. Which may well not be Fitbit

Yes, I’ll be getting the Versa 2.  I already preordered it yesterday.  Like you, the advanced sleep tracking and sleep score interest me.  The fitbit premium service is also compelling and appears to offer richer sleep data and sleep tips.  The nutritional coaching through fitbit premium is also intriguing, which, I believe, will roll out in the near future.  The new screen also looks lovely.  I’m not yet sure how I’ll use Alexa, but I’m interested in giving it a try.  I’m a big fan of fitbit and am happy to see a new device.  I’ve had the first Versa for about a year and a half and have been very happy with it.  The Versa 2 will be a nice upgrade, in my opinion.

Just to clarify @AP456 the sleep features should also be coming to the original Versa and the Ionic. What exactly is the advanced sleep tracking you mention?

  • Sleep Score available in-app for all Fitbit users with heart rate-enabled devices coming soon to view Sleep Score on-wrist on Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa family of smartwatches.
  • Smart wake coming soon; available only on Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa family of smartwatches.
  • Sleep Mode available only on Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa family of smartwatches.

Thanks for clarifying, N8teGee, that the sleep features will also be available to the original Versa and the Ionic.  Perhaps my use of the term, advanced sleep tracking, was imprecise.  What I had in mind was the information I read in a press release about fitbit premium service (most of which you nicely summarized):

  • Sleep Score : Receive a nightly score in the Fitbit® app for better insight into your sleep quality. Your score is based on heart rate (sleeping and resting), restlessness, time awake and Sleep Stages. For more insights and analysis behind your Sleep Score, upgrade to Fitbit Premium . 5
  • Smart wake : Coming soon to all Fitbit smartwatches, smart wake uses machine learning to wake you during an optimal time of your sleep cycle while in light or REM sleep, based on a pre-selected 30-minute interval, so you wake up feeling more refreshed. 6
  • Sleep Mode : Simultaneously disable your screen display and silence notifications for a night free of disturbances. Sleep Mode can also be used anytime you don’t want to be interrupted, like during a workout or in a meeting. 7
  • Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph : Coming soon, this graph will provide users with an estimate of the variability of oxygen levels in their bloodstream. The data is derived from a combination of the red and infrared sensors on the back of your device. Being aware of short-term variations in the oxygen levels in your bloodstream may indicate variations in your breathing during sleep.

Thanks, again, for pointing out that these features will not be limited to the Versa 2.

@AP456 no problem ☺

The only one we are not certain about what devices it will be available for is -

  • Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph: Coming soon, this graph will provide users with an estimate of the variability of oxygen levels in their bloodstream. The data is derived from a combination of the red and infrared sensors on the back of your device. Being aware of short-term variations in the oxygen levels in your bloodstream may indicate variations in your breathing during sleep.

I would assume that it's likely to be available to all devices with an spO2 sensor, but that is just my assumption. I would hate to give you incorrect advice and say it was definitely coming. Also no one yet knows if this will be free or part of premium.

All of your other reasons to choose the Versa 2 are very much valid though. So really you just need to weigh up whether they are worth the upgrade for you.

I'll upgrade for the better screen and the faster processor. I also like the subtle design changes they've done and the screen is slightly bigger. I'll probably bite the bullet and use fitbit pay and Alexa could be interesting to use on a watch. I think it's a good upgrade and it's the same price and I can sell my Versa 1 to supplement the buy. My one concern is that I'm a swimmer and my versa has been a champ in the pool, but I think I got lucky. I'm just gonna roll the dice.

That’s great, datalore, that you’ll be buying the Versa 2.  I hope you’ll be happy with it and that it will work well for you in the pool.

All best!

I am EXCEPTIONALLY skeptical about what Fitbit is including with any or all of the "new sleep information" listed here.  Yes, "available for the original Versa," but no, NOT "available" without paying for the Fitbit Premium subscription service.  My impression is that ALL of this will require Fitbit Premium, even though I sure don't see this as being "coaching" information, but rather, it is all "information gathered" by the sensors included in these trackers.

I have been a Fitbit customer since the days of the Fitbit One, and if I have to pay for this information, I'll be glad to assist Fitbit's current slide towards bankruptcy.  I still need some clarification on what will actually be made available to current owners, but if Fitbit is going to charge me for basic information it gathers from my device, I will be looking for a tracker from a different company.

If I wanted an Apple Watch equivalent I would get one. Why would I want another device to listen to my inane droning all day anyway? Fitbit ring please. That is all I want.

No. Versa 1 is the last FitBit tracker I will ever own. When it finally fails I am moving to either Garmin or Polar.

Why?

I've recently moved from gym based workouts, studio (Les Mills) training & running to trail riding.

'Bike' does not record the distance you have covered to your dashboard effectively making the Versa 1  I own redundant.  Bike I have just procured is a Rockhooper Specilized 29er 9 speed (18 gears in total). I've not ridden a bike since 1998. I had truly forgotten how much I enjoyed once doing so too.  Rockhopper SpecializedRockhopper Specialized

Blaze, Surge, Ionic and Versa1. I am not a FitBit employee.

OH Hell NO!.... I've been on this Forum all month, like a lot a people trying to get their Versa's to work since the 3.3 update... I moved to an Apple Watch a couple of days ago.

I don't know how Fitbit can push the Versa 2 when they left everyone out in left field on the Versa 1 issues?

Best Answer

Enjoy your Specialized Rockhopper, Grubby Duck!  Beautiful photo of where you ride. I also like exercising (walking) outdoors.  I’m sorry to hear that fitbit doesn’t work for you now that you trail ride.

I think they believe that everyone will be so dazzled by the "gosh wowness" of a 'new' Versa that we'll forget the issues we've had and immediately splurge yet more cash.
Then to add insult to injury to make the app a "subscription" is a step very close to too far.
Abuse your customers and they will leave in droves - a process that appears to have started already...

As the heart rate monitor has given up on Versa and made it essentially a very expensive pedometer I've dug out my old Garmin Vivoactive that has built in GPS and I can control Spotify with it...and it's many years old 🤔

I agree with @Mustrum the monetisation of the app function doesn't sit well with me. I'll be seeking a refund for my Versa and putting it towards a new Garmin device I think!
