My Fitbit versa has stopped tracking my steps and heart rate today. I have done all the things on the trouble shooting but none have worked so far. I have read a few comments that this is since the update from last week.

As you say seems like this is a common issue, especially if it was working.

Probably best to inform Fitbit Support directly. They may be able to help you.
