Would it be possible to select firmware versions?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

It seems quite common that people experience issues after updating a firmware.

One quick fix, pending a correction update, would be to allow them to go back to the prior version temporarily.

Fitbit would have a lot of happy customers if this were the case and it would decrease the support load and frustrations for many.

It may not have been considered as part of the existing framework but adding it could be quite straightforward.

Simply done by taking a backup copy of the existing firmware before installing a new one and allowing users to go back to the prior version.

Can a moderator raise this is with development to see if we can improve this? It would be such a great step forward.

A typical example

Hi, @Guy_ , as you know, this is currently not possible.  If you would like to see this feature made available, it might be worth posting in the Feature Suggestion Forum .  The moderators regularly check this forum and pass on popular suggests to the development team.  The more votes, the more likely it is to be implemented.

Someone did suggest something similar, but it was relative to the Charge 3 and was a couple of years ago.  It did not get many votes.

it might be worth making a new suggestion and suggesting it should apply to all chargers and smart watches so you might get more support.

Thanks @Julia_G   -  was hoping for something a bit more proactive than a mere feature suggestion which generally are there only to appease users, given that there are many unimplemented good ideas dating back years, eg, dark theme, amongst many others

The idea is to make a quantum improvement with an App modification that's pretty simple to implement for all watches and all users. The upside for Fitbit and it's customers is enormous.

Some moderators take up the challenge and are to be applauded for trying and following through.

@Guy_ , I can see that you are a long time user, so you probably know that you won’t get any better suggestion than to make a feature suggestion from a moderator or anyone else.  As you know a roll back to a previous firmware version is not available and has never been available.

A feature suggestion, with encouragement of others to vote, is the best way to get this issue noticed.

If you have had a specific problem with a firmware update that seems to have rendered your Fitbit not working you can always get in touch with Fitbit Customer Support.

Alternatively if many customers report a specific problem with an update the tech people can note this and often issue a further update with the appropriate patch.

A general suggestion like this one, to allow rollback choice belongs in the Feature Suggestion forum, which is why I suggested it.  Apologies for not having a bette solution for you!

Thanks again @Julia_G  - as a long time user it is noted that feature suggestions are not generally taken up by Fitbit and are rarely of interest to the few users who come on the forum.

The objective of this idea to have a revert back feature [while not new] is to pioneer change for the betterment of everyone - a feature suggestion will not do that.

Let's wait and see if one of the moderators will rise to the challenge. There is one I am proud of for trying to get a resolution to a problem, may be another will also try.

@Guy_ that could work but even lower hanging fruit would be if Fitbit tested thoroughly before releasing new firmware. Testing and releasing always seemed to be kinda rushed.
