i just got a new fitbit versa for my birthday yesterday and on my run today it was half a mile behind. when i know for sure that i was 2 miles in it said that i had only run 1.5 miles. i absolutely love the watch, but am super disappointed that the tracking is not excact.

You may have it set up to predict your stride, have a look at the user guide as you may want to set your stride manually.
