heart rate registering beats when not in use

I have my fitbit setting on the charger or counter and it is telling me that my heart rate is between 79 and 119 bpm. How can this be registering my heart rate when it is not in use or just sitting there with me touching just the strap and not the device itself

@erose3577 By any chance is the sensor facing any surface? It may get confused. I ways put my Versa belly up. Sensor lights will turn off and not measure anything.

When I take my Versa off, and either with the watch face up or down, it displays the last valid heart rate and does not change until I put it back on.

@Den_in_USA are the sensor lights blinking continuously when the watch is clockface down?

@erose3577 go to Settings app on your Versa, scroll down to Heart rate and toggle OFF and back ON with a reboot of the tracker in-between (press and hold the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo appears).
