Like many, this message randomly appeared on my Versa 2. After researching the issue and nothing suggested worked, I resorted to setting up a payment card in my wallet, used my watch to pay once, and the screen returned to normal. I didn't want to use one of my actual payment cards for security reasons, so I used the Revolut card that I use when I go abroad, instead. As it's a top-up card and will only debit if the there are sufficient funds on it, I made sure that there was £0 left on it afterwards. I never take my watch on holiday so problem is solved.
