resting heart rate seems high

My resting heart rate has increased steadily for the past week.  It was running in the mid 50s for quite some time and then starting on the 17th it started going up.  Once or twice I noticed that my overnight heart rate was hovering at around 60 all night, so that would seem to be consistent with what fitbit is telling me for RHR.  However, last night my heart rate hovered in the mid to upper 50s and after short bouts of activity drops back to about 55.   Now, it's claiming a RHR of 60.  That doesn't seem to be correct at all.  Generally speaking, RHR is measured upon awakening after a full day of recovery.  I really don't understand how fitbit figures RHR.  As it stands, fitbits estimate of my RHR is causing me some anxiety (which also raises RHR) while not meeting the criteria of common sense.

Hi @OldBob3301,

Fitbit measures resting heart rate both during sleep, and during inactive periods (no steps) during the day. Because it measures both at day and night, it can sometimes give readings that are higher than expected, if people are looking for a resting heart rate calculated upon waking up. I find what's most important is the weekly and monthly trend. Hope this helps.
