sync works within app but not showing on my phone screen

My fitbit steps sync just fine within the fitbit app, however, when I check my phone screen (outside of the app), it shows the message "Launch the app to refresh activity data". I've stopped and relaunched the app several times, I've reboot my phone (about 4 times). I've turned off bluetooth and back on (about 4 times).  This just started happening today, I have a pixel 3 (android) phone.  Any help would be appreciated.

History has taught me that fitbit trackers take their time to catch up with
themselves. Move on to other things and look back in a while its done. I'm
on my last leg with this tracker and some how it's working. I've got bigger
fish to fry.
