Ability to change daily goals without changing all past days

We should be able to change our goals without changing all of our past goals.
For example, on holiday break I was happy to lower my goal to 5,000 steps. Or converter, some days I want to do more and want to up my goal to 15,000 or even 20,000...but then It changes all the past days.

I emailed Fitbit to ask about it and they were quick to respond. It's not a current feature but they gave me the link to post on here to bring it to the developers attention. Hopefully your comments will help do that.

My daughter bought her Fitbit yesterday, more 'competition ' for me and she agrees too. In fact she set her goals high so she wouldn't loose lower achievements.

Let's hope they hear us! Til then, that's a crafty way to workaround the problem, have fun competing 🙂

I agree! I am a little less active on the weekends and would like to have a lower goal just so I can hit it on those days.

I worked really hard for my previous goals. I want to see them reflected!

Agreed! It's frustrating to be forced to have the same goals all week. On the weekend, om more active and would love to be able to edit my goals for those days without throwing off my data for the previous day's!

I am glad to see others have expressed this desire as well. I hope Fitbit will consider this. Part of a person's motivation to keep improving is seeing they have improved before. Everytime I have increased my goal it is a little sad to see all of my stars disappear and as my goals increase more stars disappear from my history. As someone who has battled weight and eating disorders I would really appreciate the history of goals being left there. It may seem minor, but there really is a psychological reprocussion. I worry that once I reach a maximum goal I may regress or even give up completely because in my mind it will feel like it was a sudden change, not a gradual one and once again feel like the efforts are futile.

This request has been posted in various forms, it seems like since January 2014. Fitbit, please make this change!

I want to increase my goal going forward without affecting previous days as well. I started with a 10,000 step/day goal and made that consistently. When I upped my goal to 12,000 steps/day, the days I had between 10,000 and 12,000 steps looked like I missed my goal. But I didn't -- I made the goal as it existed at the time.

I'm ready to increase my goal again, but I'm not because I don't want to look like I've been a slacker.

Please, if this is going to motivate us, we need this capability. Thank you.

I am adding my voice to this much needed update. It's unfortuntate that my entire fitness history is altered every time I alter my goal, even on a temporary basis. This is unexceptable from the fitness tracking leader, Fitbit. Please fix this right away!

I completely agree that we should be able to keep past goals. I would like to see when I changed my goals.

It's been two years since the original request -- still no rest day goals ? Rest days are important to exercise and it's a chore to constantly change your goal depending on if it's a 'rest' day or 'exercise/workout' day.

I don't think it'll ever happen.

As an overweight person who wants to increase her weight loss goals
I want Fitbit to remember my goals on past days
So that I don't get discouraged when my new goal puts my past days in the ref

I hear you. Same reason I want to be able to set and monitor progressive goals. It is demotivating to have it appear as if you didn't meet early goals. C'mon Fitbit!!!

A year and a half. Fitbit is obviously not listening or doesn't care. As a programmer, I understand just how trivial this change would be. Goal becomes a field in the database rather than a global variable.

I will continue using my Flex as long as it and/or the band holds up, but my next tracker will be a different brand.

Yes- this would be great. It would also make the app more accessible to folks with injuries or disabilities. Activity levels are not static over time- many people are on a slow increase in activity level (such as previously sedentary individuals who are gradually becoming active or those who are recovering from a major-but acute- injury or illness), many are currently struggling with an injury or illness (exercise related injuries, injuries from car or other accidents, etc) but will eventually regain their ability to exercise at a previously attained level, and some are gradually reducing exercise for health reasons (perhaps due to exercise related bulimia or anorexia). Add in folks who have differing abilities to participate in exercise based on external scheduling factors like work. If you're increasing or decreasing activity, it would be really helpful to have the chance to set a lower or higher goal without losing or dramatically exceeding all your goal attainments for previous days. People who are fighting to gain back mobility after surgery or illness don't want to lose the stars next to days when those 2,000 (or whatever) steps were incredibly hard fought just because they can do 10,000 steps months later. When I had a broken foot, I was fighting hard to get through 5,000 steps a day (which was as much rest as I could give myself as a person who lives in a city and walks/buses everywhere). I would have really appreciated the option of dropping my step and activity goals through the duration of my recovery as it would have helped me not push too far on my injury.

I'm all for this in that Fitbit should remember my past goals so as not to shame my past efforts when I decide I'm doing well and increase my goals.

Fitbit is not listening! There have been many requests for this change over the past year. Might be time to consider a different product!

Thank you Naomie for your response. I totally agree with your comments. We have all bought our Fitbits for different reasons but I guess the primary reason is to improve our fitness and have a visual record of this. When you factor in illness, sickness and accidents that all require rest and recovery time, daily goal adjustments could play a big part in that persons recovery. I hope the programmers are made aware of this and are able to include this as an update in the future.
