Ability to change daily goals without changing all past days

We should be able to change our goals without changing all of our past goals.
For example, on holiday break I was happy to lower my goal to 5,000 steps. Or converter, some days I want to do more and want to up my goal to 15,000 or even 20,000...but then It changes all the past days.

There has been a lot of chatter about goal changing and I am in total agreement to all of that chatter BUT I would also like to comment that life sometimes serves you a curve and the goals that you started with can't always continue to improve.  Sometimes you have to take a step back and go a little slower for awhile.  By changing your goals( either increase or decrease) there is nothing MORE motivating than that little surge when you hit your goal.  Due to a long stretch of illness, I have had to start over again and I have tried repeatedly to lower my step goals from 10000 to 5000- without success.  It keeps telling me the heart association sets the step goal to 10000.  PLEASE find a way to let us set our goals without losing our history.  That little burst of encouragement as it rewards you for reaching your goal is more successful to keep you going than ten friends, because you are doing it for YOU!

I truly hope the Fitbit team will address this issue and help its users control daily goals without losing personal data. Go team! Lonnie Sent from my iPhone

Dear Fitbit, For several months, my step goal has been set at 12k. I have been successful at reaching this goal most days, and on many days have exceeded it, so today I changed my step goal to 15k. Instead of reflecting the many successes, and then an increase in goal level, ALL of my past days also reflected the change, so it now looks like most days I did not reach my goal. This is really depressing! Is there a way to keep the "goals met" as well as to indicate when the goal was increased?

I received my fitbit as a Christmas gift and have been loving it. However I am deeply disappointed that it does not allow me to gradually increase my goals without changing my history. This is very demotivating!  I had raved about your product to my friends but will now be retracting my rave reviews as with out the ability to increase your goals with out destroying your progress - I give it two thumbs down.

I work during the week so cannot feasibly achieve more than a certain amount of steps/ exercise/ calories etc but make up for it with a lot more exercise during weekend but goal is always broken by lunch. Can we have the option of splitting goals into weekday and weekend goals so that they can be more realistic and useful.

Totally agree!  I want to put a rest day in each week and lower my steps and calorie goals on that day, and I'm so obsessed with meeting my daily goals I never really get a proper rest day!  My issue I know, but it would still be super helpful!

I love this idea! When i first got my fitbit in 2013, my goal was 5,000 steps on day one. Today my goal is 7,500 and I've worked up from that 5,000 steps over the years (i have a personal goal of increasing by 100 steps for every 2 weeks of meeting my goal consistently including weekends which is the hardest part!). The fact that my past history suggests I was a lame duck that didn't make my step goals makes me really sad.

Is there a way to have a different step goal each day? I would like to have a higher goal on weekdays but a lower goal on weekends.

Yes, great idea. I had to create a seperate log to keep track of changes.

I know how to change my step goals, weight goals, etc. I would like to know that my past days I met the old goals, but nowe I am meeting my new goals. I raised my daily step goals and all the days in the past where I met the goal as it was then, are now shown with no star as such, I didn't meet the goal.

I was coming in to make the exact same suggestion!  It would be nice if the goal would change for future days but still reflect that you made the goal set for prior days.

I would like to see the date I changed my goals for daily steps, and view the daily steps as to the goals set at the time.  Right now, I've upped my game to take 15,000 steps a day. My dashboard over the last month (when it was set to 10,000 steps a day) make it appear as if I've not met my (new) target of 15,000 steps a day.

In addition, I'm not convinced the BMI is set to take into consideration age, gender... I know there are lots of different versions of BMI charts out there.

I hear you! I have been using my Fitbit since Feb. 2015 - I identified this as a shortcoming for me back then. Here it is a year later and the company has not seen fit to change this aspect of tracking. I wonder if any of the other trackers provide this service? Kate

When you are trying to improve your health and fitness, your step goal definitely gets raised. As you raise your step goal, the past days where you met your goals become days the you didn't meet your goal of your goal is below the new goal. Please change this in the app. It's important motivation to be able to keep track of the days you met your goal.

Yes, I want to incorporate rest days. Sleep and rest is as important as activity. Too much activity on a rest day can get an unhappy face.

I wish we'd get an update on this!!! It's a feature that his obviously being requested by many fitbit users. I've been a user for almost 2 years, and have been hoping for this feature from the very beginning. It's my only complaint. Is the future looking good for the feature requested by many??? 🙂

Hi,
I'd like to be able to set my daily goals by day of the week. Most people work several days of the week and have different activities on weekends. I have desk job and am unlikely to meet a daily goal for steps (for example), however on weekends I have goals to walk 6-8 miles and usually average over 20000 steps, 3000 calories, etc... Having the same goals for every day of the week does not make sense for me, or anyone who set activity days (like going yo gym on Tuesday and Thursday ).... You get the idea.

I'd like to see a lot more flexibility on both tracking custom activities on the device and in setting goals by day.

Thanks, the surge is good product, but could be so much better with what amount to firmware upgrades.

Thanks.

Yes! My office days are a killer on the daily step goal, so I need to be able to set two types of goal

Have you considered adding the ability to set step goals for each day, rather than one "daily goal" that applies to every day? Would be a great way to encourage incremental step increases on days that are sedentary in ways beyond individual control - e.g. "I'm spending 13 hours on an airplane today; let's aim for 4,000 steps rather than accepting that whatever I hit is fine." Or "I'm running a half marathon today; I need to hit 30,000 steps, not the usual 15." Beyond steps, it could help with fluid intake, miles walked/run when distance training for races, or hours slept before an important day.

I recently changed my daily step goal from12k to 14k per day. After doing this my history updated to show that any days where I had not achieved 14k steps, I had not met my daily goal. I think that the history should remain based on the goal at that point in time and that the new goal should only be tracked from the point of the change.

Can I suggest an update for the app? I work 3 days a week and am on my feet for the entire time I am working... On the days in between I am a mother to two young children.... However my steps vary dramatically. If there was some way you could set a step goal on certain days and then a different step goal on others... At the moment my goal is too easy to a achieve on working days but to hard to achieve on non-working days and becomes demotivating. Id like to set. 8k goal for non working days and a 15k goal for working days. Both will make me push just a bit harder than I am currently achieving. Thank you
