Able to create a custom meal and indicate number of servings

I would really like to be able to build a recipie and then indicate how many servings it makes and how much I ate and see nutritional break down by servings too.  I think it would way easier than trying to enter all ingredients then when its time to eat the leftovers I can just add the recipie serving.

Program drop down menus Gor home made meals. Example: Sandwich: type of bread, meat, condiments, veggies, etc.

Hi @Naninja, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to see ability to create meals on the Fitbit app. I've moved it into a similar request. I think that a lot of users would like to have this option on their Fitbit devices. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

I'm quite fond of the idea of meals having a hierarchical modular architecture. A meal is a collection of ingredients in specific quantity. The meal portion can be adjusted, in turn adjusting all of the ingredients it contains. Or an ingredient from within the meal module can be adjusted, giving you the option to destructively edit, or just create a new separate instance of the meal. Meals can become like ingredients as the subarchitecture of a supermeal that includes several courses. And I think it would be especially useful if the "Recently eaten with" associations could naturally present you with the option to build a module from the pieces the app notices together.

---------------------

Also, the meals that are currently only created from within the browser portal are not very usefully implemented because you can't use the search function or the frequent/recent tabs to log them. Only a long scroll to the end of the custom list will bring those up. Very user unfriendly.

I agree with the above posters.  When I make a meal, I am rarely making one serving.  It's quite tedious to have to tally up each of the individual ingredients and divide by number of servings, particularly if the number of "servings" you are eating in one sitting is not consistent.  Not having the serving feature built in requires you to individually edit each ingredient any time that serving size changes.  This is laborious, especially if you are eating "one item" type meals, like soups, casseroles, etc., as opposed to a "multiple components" type meals like veggie + grain + protein.  One of the core principals of food tracking is being honest and accurate in your tracking, and while it is possible for this to be accomplished with the current system, it is far from simple or user friendly.  This feature greatly discourages me from using the nutrition logging aspect, especially when there are several other apps out there that accomplish this fairly standardized feature.  I'm surprised a company as large as Fitbit has not addressed this issue by now, seeing as this suggestion has been on the table for a while.  Maintaining all of my health aspects on one app would be ideal, but until Fitbit fixes this feature, the app is unusable for this purpose, in my opinion, and I will track my nutrition via other apps.

Yes. Why haven’t you done this sooner?!

I fully support this suggestion. It is a significant gap in the app when it comes to logging food.
to be clear I am seeking the ability to build a recipe in the app which then converts this to show all the nutrition stats. I then want to save this for future use.
this functionality is already available in similar apps so can clearly be done.

This definitely needs to be something created for the app. Really annoying having to type in every individual ingredient when it's a reoccurring meal.

It would be very useful to be able to bundle food items into a meal and save for quick logging. I have the same breakfast and post workout shake on most days - instead of having to log each ingredient every day, I could create a ‘My Post Workout Shake’ food item with all the ingredients and amounts attached to it.

Hi @kprofit, we wanted to let you know that the ideas you recently posted already exist on the Feature Suggestions Board. You can see them here where you can add your vote to those existing suggestions:

Ability to create meals on the app

Copy food log from one day to another

Ability in app to log multiple food items

Please try to make sure you only post one idea per suggestion, so we can keep the board organized, easily searchable and see which idea other members are voting for. Thanks for participating in Feature Suggestions.

Hi fitbit. It would be really helpful and great if you considered adding regular meals to your app. For instance I regularly have bran flakes, coffee, fruit juice and a banana for breakfast. If I could save this as regular meal, it would make logging food much quicker. All we need is a 'save as meal' button after logging food.

Recipes! I wish I could put everything in at once for a large recipe and it would automatically split it among multiple days that I eat it.

Fitbit should take inspiration from the functionality/organization of apps like myfintesspal and Weight Watchers. The list of previously logged foods is disorganized. We should be able to create recipes (this is different from meals), and choose serving size. We shouldn't need multiple apps, or linki to different apps, it should all be in this app.

I can't believe this thread was started in 2014 and absolutely nothing has been done to work on this issue whatsoever. As mentioned if I cook a chili at home there are 10+ ingredients and a huge pot of chili when I'm done. There is absolutely no way to log this. Myfitnesspal is kind of helpful but you have to choose a serving size. My issue is i could weigh and measure each ingredient going in to the dish but I won't be sure of the final weight/volume so adding the serving size is arbitrary. I could say 8 servings but how to portion it out exactly? Honestly, I just put the chili in a few containers in the fridge or freezer and I would measure it out each time i wanted to eat a bowl. Why can't we enter each ingredient (it's very simple to add whole foods in the app) and then consider it a homogenized mixture and weight out each portion as we eat it? It seems like it would be so simple since every single ingredient is already in the food database. I honestly don't understand why fitbit has never considered this feature in 7 years. It's so frustrating and I feel ripped off since I only use fitbit to count calories in vs calories out.

That's why I've been using cronometer.com for my food logging. They sync with Fitbit & have the recipe function you're describing. And the app is free.

Thank you YoBubba! I just downloaded and connected chronometer and tried out the functionality. Works great! I still don't understand why Fitbit can't do this so I don't need to have 2 apps to look at instead of just one. I am 100% sure it's not that difficult, they're not trying to launch a rocket to mars like please just let us count calories!!!!!

I dumped my relationship with Fitbit. I still (After 7 years) get people
telling me they can't believe Fitbit hasn't done anything about this.
MyFitness Pal has a decent workaround, you just have to weigh the final dish

Ex: a full pot of chili weighs in at 36 oz and you separate 6-ounce bowls,
that's 6 servings. It's the best workaround.

This also works well. Recipe Calorie and Nutrition Calculator

What doesn't work is Fitbit. The idea is simple, the fix is simple and
when people are seriously working at staying healthy, a food journal is
extremely important. 6 pack abs begin in the kitchen, not the gym. ANY
trainer will tell you this.

Fitbit's failure to implement this, based on the large number of people who
ask for it, is indicative of the company, so I dropped my Fitbit and moved
to a different band.

I gave up on this a long time ago. I just started using Cronometer and never looked back. It works great, it does everything I need and more, and it synchronizes perfectly.

I don't think Fitbit is ever going to add all that additional functionality.

And so say all of us!!!
Honestly this needs to be fixed. Noom do it in their App. It’s almost
there… just add number of portions and it’s done!

Make it possible to input a recipee meal on the app, that we can divide into portions. Ie: chilli. Half pound ground beef, + 3 carrots, + can of beans... but I only eat 1/4 th of this in a meal.

I can Dogfit.

I've been on this one since 2015 and every so often someone will say they've taken it forward to the next stage and nothing happens. I'm a batch cook & portion it up person..

It's BARMY that we keep recommending alternative sites and apps to each other in this thread 😂
