Adjust floor counter/floor height

Hi,

I have a Charge 3 (new).  Regarding the stairs climbed algorithm your help pages state I need to climb 10' or more to register a "stairs count". Most residential houses have a floor to floor difference of < 10'. So in my home (and others in a typical 2 story house) the device does not give me "credit" for the many floors I climb each day. How many homes have a floor to floor difference of >= 10"? Not many. So, why design a device for "consumers" that does not factor this in? Please fix this. Thanks

Al (Silicon Valley)

The floors of the different houses are of different heights, e.g. between 8 and 15 feet. We are on the second floor of a house, one floor is 8 feet high, so the tracker counts only every second floor.

Hey Fitbit Team!

It was not a feature suggestion but a Bug-Report !

If I go 2 floors and the device shows only 1, than it has nothing to do with the opinion of the other community members.

Thank you for taking care...

I agree with the stair height variations.

My house is 120 years old.

The main stairs are about 8 1/2’ the second stairs are over 10’.

Modern homes Typically have an 8’ ceiling and with framing and flooring end up with a 9’ elevation.
My daily stair count has varied over the past week from 4 floors to 21 floors.

Neither is correct. With a manual counter posted at the bottom of the stairs i typically do 8-10 flights a day.

To make this algorithm even more complex, the building i work in First floor is about 20’. I used to always use the stairs, but lately my arthritis in my knees has forced me to use the elevator. I just posted this as another permutation for you to consider.

The altitude is a good start, but there should be some way of adjusting the step count while ascending stairs.
Since you already track location you might want to have a couple of stair settings based on location. Ie home = vs business.

or step count+elevation.

your on the right track, but still need some tweeking.

The floor height should be adjustable to accommodate everyone's particular structure.

Hi @Menacen27, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to see adjust floor height on the Fitbit app. Thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request.  A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon.

I dont know if i commented on it, but it seems that the rate (ie how fast) you go up the stairs matters too.

I have arthritis in both knees. On good days i go up the stairs at a relatively normal pace on bad days, or when carrying stuff I go slower and the fitbit does not always record the trip up the stairs.

I live in an old house where the floor height is below 10 feet. I have
arthritis in my hips and heart disease so my pace up and down the stairs
varies. Speed doesn't make any difference in this case but thanks anyway.

Floor height is a good measure for many people to visualise, but the floor height reference is too vague.

It would be useful to use meters/feet climbed instead and have it possible to introduce the custom floor height to see how many floors have been climbed. This would allow people to compare the height climbed with other people even if their floor heights are different.

Give the the capability to select floor height. You need to have a selection from 7 - 11 feet or a choice of Residential (7 - 9 Feet) and Commercial (10 - 11 feet).

I have been a Fitbit user for over eight years now. I upgraded from a Charge 3 to a Sense about two weeks ago. The Charge 3 seemed to do a pretty good job of tracking stairs, Sense, not as good. I have a suggestion regarding how stairs are counted. According to Gracy on the chat line, the altimeter measures a 10' rise and can not be adjusted. If you have 8' ceilings in your home as I do in my three story home, the Sense misses pretty much all stairs. I know you can adjust your stride in the steps counter to more accurately reflex distance traveled, it would be nice to be able to adjust stair height as well. I am guessing there are more 8' ceiling in homes than higher so many folks are not getting their stairs counted accurately. Even if you made the standard 8 or 9 it would more accurately reflect activity. Just a suggestion that seems would be pretty easy to implement. If you are using a tracker/smart watch, you want information to be relatively accurate without big flaws. This seems like a flaw that can be easily fixed.

I also have a 2 story house with 8' ceilings. Most of the time my stairs don't count. They used to when I had a Fitbit One, not with my current Charge 4. It is nice to cater to people that work in big buildings, but 8' has been standard for residential in the US for a long time. Even if 8' was the new Fitbit standard for a flight of stairs, those who climbed more steps would just end up with more flights & those of us in residential will have a chance to reach stair goals.

I live in a 1959 rambler. The basement floor and first floor are only 96 inches / 8 feet apart. It would cost many thousands of dollars to jack up my house 2 feet. Very few of my "floors" get properly logged. I would love more headroom down there, but jacking up a brick house is cost prohibitive. I hope you'll consider making floor height adjustable instead.
