Allow More Fitbit Devices than Ace to Family Account

I am frustrated that I cannot give my Fitbit blaze to my daughter and use the family account. The only device it will allow you to since is the Ace. The Blaze is far better and it would be extremely useful to her. The only way I can have her use the Blaze is to lie about her age and create a single account for her. Please allow other devices on the family account for minors.

Don´t you worry about them solving this no brainer for a feature. Make a fake age or return or sell item.... oh, yes, I might add, if they do add this feature. You will probably as a parent also need buy a supervisor version of their premium $425 tracker and with that also  subcribe to a special premium parent and child account for as little as $199.99 a year. That is per child as the account can only handle one child.

Any update on progress of this suggestion?  I am trying to get my son upgraded from Ace (which is setup using a Child account). Want to track his progress using my phone - seperate from my own Fitbit.

It’s almost like the good folks at FitBit
DON’T GIVE A **ahem** ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS
isn’t it?

Allow not just the Ace/Ace2 to be on a child's account
Kids use adult fitbit models as well and not being able to add to their account is frustrating

Hi @SunsetRunner, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to allow more Fitbit devices than Ace to Family Accounts. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". I hope to see you around.

We bought two inspire 2's for our 12 and 11 year old daughters. They have had smart phones for years. My family and extended family are being forced to move to apple watch because of these restrictions. We are the parents and should be able to consent to what our children are able to have access to! Very disappointed that fitbit doesn't have a work around so that our children could join in on the fit bit community.

Fit bit doesn't offer a kids version with the features that we want our kids to have, which is why we selected the inspire 2. Very disappointed about this beyond belief.

It's ridiculous they haven't fixed this issue yet. So sorry about your
Christmas presents.

Agree 100%!  My son is 10, 5'0" and 120 lbs.  He got a Fitbit charge 4 for Christmas from his out of town grandfather and we had already opened the box and charged it when I realized the family account limitation.  So I added it to my own personal account and disabled everything except step and sleep tracking.  Not ideal but my son really wanted a fitbit and returning to his grandfather to return is just too much of a hassle.

FitBit! please listen to it's users! We are the one that supports buying your devices. Please fix this! we don't even need the functionality to "control" or monitor their fit bit usage more so just for them to be able to sign up for an account without having to put in false information.

Bought a Charge 4 for my 11 yr old as he had an Ace that he’d outgrown.  Really disappointed that this common sense option is not available.  Our family had been Fitbit users for years.  Planning to make the switch.

Same issue many are hanging - children should be able to have an account for Charge 2 or other models. (Happy for any non child safe features to be disabled on the app/device).

I suspect that this restriction is more about forcing adults to buy child specific devices instead of handing down their old devices, than any technical constraints to make this happen). Not happy.

This issue has been around for years with yet no response from Fitbit. I was hoping for an answer now google is the owner but no.   Especially when apple and garmin do not have this problem.  One of the reasons I believe Fitbit has had market share issues is that they do not embrace customer needs.

I doubt there will ever be an answer here.

From what I understand, it’s because they can’t (or don’t want to) turn their spy ability off on their end and they aren’t allowed to collect certain data on Children (heart rate, location etc). So their answer was to just make devices that don’t collect that data in the first place.

I doubt they will ever care about turning off their ability to data collect so this will never be resolved.

This request is almost 2 years old. Why isn't this done yet?

This is absolute madness, 2 years and this hasn't been resolved. I've only just found out about this limitation. My wife wanted to pass down her old Fitbit to our son when I bought her a brand new fitbit. And he can't use it, he's devastated.

Forcing us to buy the ACE is not going to work. It just means I'll spend more money at another brand. Very disappointed in you Fitbit.

@Albank they pretty much have to be able to do that, or they could not operate in places with really strict data privacy laws like Europe.

Strongly agree. My parents gave me an Inspire HR. Now I have my own full account, but would much rather be a 'child' on my parents' accounts.

Why would I want an Ace?? It does less and costs more?

I am very surprised that this continues to be an issue for Fitbit users. I bought my daughter an Ace 2 years ago and now she wants to upgrade to a more stylish version so we bought her an inspire 2. Now I realize I can't set it up for her without lying about her age. Why on earth is there no Fitbit marketed towards teenagers?

I'd buy my son a fitbit tomorrow (He has saved up and wants one)  But as he is 10, he can only use an Ace 2 with a family account.   He says the Ace 2 is too babyish.

I don't want to teach him that is OK to lie about his age either.

Please update the family account options to allow adding other fitbit models for under 13s.

As a software programmer, it would not be a huge task to have all devices allowable on the family account. The fact this issue has been raised more than 2 years ago shows how out of touch you are with you customer base.

You have created so much ill will and demonstrated you inability to move with the times.

Come on people at FitBit, it is time to get this sorted out. It is not hard.

I fully understand why child’s data needs protecting... but the heart rate and better stats are a significant benefit for older children (aged 10 to 12) who are taking more of an interest in their health and exercise.

there must be a way of limiting social media side off children without losing the ability for children to use the full range of devices.

I just purchased the Inspire 2 (Alta bit the dust awhile ago). Purchased my kids 9 & 6 and Inspire HR and Ace 2 in the summer. Ace 2 is set up with family account. The inspire HR was set up as the main one for my daughter who has sensory issues and wrists that don't work for kid size bands. I set up my inspire 2 and it deleted my daughter's device. My only option to track all of us is to set up my minor daughter an account separately. This is not an inclusive option for an extraordinary child who does not fit into the Ace 2 physical expectations. In 2021, inclusivity and safety should be a focus for any business. I'm truly disappointed that after 3 years this issue has still not been dealt with and only a faceless name can pop on here occasionally to continue to pass the buck and not take charge of the issue.
