Allow Music transfer from phone

In the near future, please incorporate the ability to transfer music directly from your phone library. Preferably, this feature would even be available offline.

One grievance I have here is that it can only be done, online, with a computer installed with the FitBit software.

It seems minor, but, there are plenty of reasons this feature is troublesome; for example:
-can’t be installed on a computer (administrative rights on a work computer?)
-or not being able to connect to the internet (when traveling)
-or the connection is terribly slow.

@Rich_Laue So I just spent 10 minutes and figured out how to transfer music to my Amazfit Pace directly from my phone. Quick and easy. Now I can do it directly from my phone and from my computer very quickly and easily. To transmit over wireless, quickly installed a 3rd party Filemanager utility. So simple. I can't believe how much time I wasted trying to transfer music to my Ionic.

Seems like you guys are losing customers on something that needs to be looked at now, not later, especially if you guys want to stay ahead of the competition. I know you're just a moderator but to not transfer music from your phone to the device(s) was absolutely huge misstep on the developers! Especially in this day and age. No one is going to go buy a computer with windows 10 comparability or spend money on prime music accounts just to get music, when they can simply return the device and get one that already does transfers from phone.

Please get back to us (your Fitbit customers)

Thank you

I agree. The music feature was one of the main selling points for me. Due to not being able to load the music from my iPhone/iPad I’m contemplating returning my versa.

At the very least, open up the Music player so that developers can make their own music file transfer app. You already have the File Transfer API, just open up the music storage as a possible target.

The advertising blurb for the Versa made it sound so easy to listen to music on the Versa.  I can't believe you can't transfer music from your smartphone or iPad.  Even if using a PC, it would be so much easier to just plug the charging dock into the usb and drag the playlist across.

Like many here I'm surprised we cannot transfer music from the Phone or from a tablet. We can sync music playlists from Deezer, but what about locally stored music?.

When I got my Ionic a short while ago, I was majorly surprised that we cannot sync music via the USB charging cable.

That it can only be used to charge the watch has me puzzled. Why not offer an option to transfer music via the cable?

What if we're in a remote area with bad or no WiFi? Or if a person does not have WiFi on their desktop computer. Yup those still exist *points at self while laughing* (The only laptop I have is used for work, and I do not want to install private software on it).

I had to buy a WiFi USB dongle for my desktop computer. And all I'll be using it for is transfering music I own to the phone.

My understanding is that the hsrdware interface inside the tracker does not have the ability transfer data.

Personally I would be comfortable having an FTP server on the tracker. The user could drag and drop files into the tracker through WiFi.

@Rich_Lauethanks for the info.

That's a real shame.

The option to use drag n drop via WiFi would be a great alternative. Hope it is a feature that could be applied in a future update. If it's possible with the current hardware.of course.

It would work with the hardware @Asfridur. Software would need to be added to the tracker.

The Fitbit app could then have a seperate music screen with a search function to choose music files. Add a button to start the transfer. This could all be done with the standard FTP created in 1970 .

With desktop and laptops being less used, as phones become more power full, this really needs to be implemented.

I am aware that the general phone user does not locally store music on their phone, but their are plenty of users that do.

The main selling point and reason I bought my Fitbit Versa was because I could have my music on it and leave my phone home while working out. I travel constantly for work and thought this would greatly help me stay active while travelling all the time as I could forego the gym membership AND have music with me. I do not own a desktop computer or laptop anymore, as in this day and age, and with my travel for work, a tablet/IPad and my smartphone are more than sufficient for my needs. Nowhere in marketing did it ever say that in order to use the music function I would need a computer to transfer music files. I feel quite deceived, truthfully. Will not be recommending this product for this reason. If we can’t transfer our music library or Apple Music streaming library, then at least let us use SPOTIFY!!!!! COME OOOOONNNN!!!!!! Honestly, this is completely ridiculous and this issue shouldn’t exist with the technology of today.

I have to bring this up as a new thread. Customers have brought this up in October of last year! With one single response from a moderator saying (just keep your eyes on this forum), that was back in Jan!!!

To even have to mention this is pretty ridiculous, to not be able to transfer music from your phone to the watch (ionic I have, I'm sure its the same with others) is going backwards. People have returned the item because of this and gotten other ones that have that capability!

I am not buying a new computer or updating to windows 10 nor am I buying a monthly subscription to music apps!!

Let go guys take care of your current customers, who talk about your product outside in the fitness world!

Thank you

I completely agree with this. I bought the ionic to be able to run without my phone. It arrived today, to only realize I can’t move any music as I don’t have a laptop.

Im considering sending it back, unless this is a feature currently being worked on?

@Steph1204

Return it. Been brought up almost a year ago. I thought I brought up a new thread to try to get the ball hopefully at least looked at, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears and blind eyes and they linked it into this thread. (I brought up in jan, someone else brought it up in oct)

To not even consider doing phone to watch in the beginning stages of making ionic and I'm sure the versa was just asinine! And for them to not think a person wouldnt complain about that is head in the sand.

So maybe those who can return it should because I highly doubt the feature will be up and running in 3 months time, or however long you have to return after purchase. And maybe then they will look at this HUGE FLAW.

Yip @Steph1204 I highly recommend you return it ASAP n get something better, this has been on goin for nearly a year, I got the ionic so I could put music on so I would need to take my phone with me n I’ve broken 2 phone screens in this time, it’s been said many times now not everyone has access to a laptop or pc. GET WITH THE TIMES FITBIT YOUR LOSING CUSTOMERS!!

Agreed on all points! As a linux user i can't get music on my ionic and even if, I would much rather prefer just sending it over from my phone. Fitbit support, please make this happen!!

Adding another voice to the choir.

It seems ridiculous to have a device that already has good two-way communication with a phone but force users to install desktop application just to transfer music.

Leave alone the fact that Fitbit supports only 2.4GHz so I had to enable it on my router. And that you need to turn off bluetooth on your phone because if tracker communicates with your phone via bluetooth it might interfere with its abilities to communicate with your desktop over WiFi (at least that was a suggestion on how to make this whole transfer process to work).

Side note: at least application works with W7....

It works for windows 7??

It did for me....

Keep in mind: transferring music is a PITA, but this seems to be common issue, not related to OS.

@russianbear66

Did you have to use a dongle?

russianbear66
Recovery Runner

No, because my laptop has built-in WiFi card. An ability of your computer (laptop/desktop, Windows/iOS/Linux, whatever) to communicate with existing WiFi network is a prerequisite to the whole process.

1) your computer must be connected to wireless network

2) your tracker must be connected to the same wireless network

For example, I cannot do anything in my office because I cannot connect my tracker to corporate network my laptop is connected to.

But this is irrelevant to the original topic and we can take this discussion offline.

If your computer has a built in wifi card, as you say, then it should work.

If your computer does not have a built in wifi card, but is hard wired to a network that does have a wifi router on it. The computer will be able to communicate with the Wifi that you want to setup the tracker to.

Where you able to connect the tracker to the wifi?

I don't know if the office has wifi, and not knowing how the office is setup, you might need to contact your tech support.

Linux will not work, I can help with syncing through Linux.

Not based on my experience.Even more: I could not make them to communicate when my laptop was connected to 5GHz band. I had to reconnected it 2.4GHz

I am waiting for my replacement ionic watch since there was an issue with the battery leads. But I know when i was trying with my windows 7, i couldn't even download the desktop app and its said mobile download only for ionic and two other brands.
