Allow Spotify offline on Versa series and Sense

After long time Fitbit released a Spotify app for Ionic/Versa (for now only on Versa 2). See this suggestion now marked as solved.

However this app does not allow to download music for offline listening (for example while working-out).

Hence this new suggestion.

@BexK i believe you can move all your previous data from Fitbit over to Garmin.

I'm very tempted to do this in the new year.

What device did you go for?

@youhippy indeed you can transfer data. I found all but my sleep data transferred (ie steps, calories, weight etc) but moving individual workouts needs to be done 1by1 in tcx format and is a real pain. You can do a test transfer and set up a garmin acct before you take the plunge like I did as wanted to be sure it will work. Went for the Venu and it seems stellar so far if you're into your workouts and fitness stats more so than lifestyle data, yet it also has a screen that does not look like it is 5yr old. Their sleep data isn't great but I can live with that. Body battery to me tells me the same info. Garmin setup was a breeze compared to my old fitbit versa which never connected to WiFi. Importantly I have already downloaded Spotify playlist s and connected my cheap Bluetooth headphones without problems so I'm so far very pleased!

If this would be added, I would definitely buy a versa 3 or sense. It does not make sense to add GPS to these watches, and not allow us to have offline music from the most popular streaming service. I will probably get a different watch if I cannot use this feature.

Thanks @BexK for that. Sounds ideal. My partner has an old Garmin Forerunner so I think I'll make that move in 2021.

Yes, please implement feature for Spotify playlists to be downloaded offline via wifi to the devices storage so you can run & listen to music without your phone. In Versa Series & Sense. This is a fundamental feature that will draw more than anything you are currently providing through deezer or pandora.

I agree that the description is misleading - I bought the Sense today and am really not happy that you can't download Spotify playlists.

I would never have bought it if I knew I had to use Deezer.

Very disappointed - for this price, I hope they add Spotify offline very soon.

I don't know why it takes so long to implement offline support. Do it. Your concurents also have it. For example garmin venu sq music. But your overall design is better. Why do you have to disappoint your customers?

Update the Spotify app on Fitbit watches to enable you to sync your playlists for offline use. Other smart watches enable this, I'm really surprised Fitbit haven't.

Hi @matt_price93, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to allow Spotify offline on Versa series. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". I hope to see you around.

Hi,

I just wanted to chime in as another fitbit user looking to upgrade to a smart watch style fitness tracker device. I'm torn between the versa 3 and garmin's venu, but leaning towards the venu now because it supports offline spotify playback. My dream is to run while listening to music without my phone and if you can bring offline Spotify playback to the fitbit platform that would seal the deal for me!

Thanks!

@Hiitkid88 you sound like you are facing exactly the same dilemma I did! In fact though I took the plunge and changed to Garmin venu and it is GREAT! Everything just works! Uploading Spotify playlists, connecting headphones, GPS connection is super accurate.... You should definitely go for it. Some things to be aware of though: transferring your data takes time if you want to have your individual runs with their maps etc from fitbit. They need to be transferred one by one. It took me some hours because I didn't want to lose this data. If all you want is say step and weight data, this takes much less time. Maybe 15min. Also if you really care about sleep data stick with Fitbit. I thought I did, but the Garmin Body Battery score is actually better. It can even tell if I'm sick because I didn't properly recharge, amazing. Just takes about a week to calibrate.

Hi all, I'm a new owner of versa 3 recently jumped ship from garmin vivoactive 3. Their last software update completely destroyed a well working watch. Usually the battery lasted more than 5 days and plunged to just 10 hours max. Told myself no more garmin product for me though at first tempted with venu sq music. But when I saw versa 3 I was more than happy to test the water with it mentioned equipping it with GPS and Spotify. While not entirely misleading, a fitness watch that boasted phone free experience while running outdoor should enable offline music storage. Those 2,5 gigs of storage will be quite a waste otherwise.

I was a loyal Fitbit user but I’m officially done. I moved to a Garmin Forerunner 645 with music in October  and I’ve never looked back. Fitbit has the power and the many forum suggestions from Fitbit users who just want to have the ability to have Spotify or Amazon music playlists downloaded to their watch so they don’t have to take their phone. Yet they continue to create new and improved watches that still don’t have these features. It’s disappointing that I had to move onto another brand to be able to get the features I want.

Concerning that this post is from September 2019 and over a year later Fitbit have still not taken on board our feelings about this.

I am taking the plunge and buying myself a Garmin in 2021 to have GPS and Spotify Offline in my watch. Will have to cancel my Fitbit Premium subscription and wouldn't consider another Fitbit now.

Just got my Fitbit Versa 3 and thought I would be able to store my Spotify premium playlists on the device, shame. Hopefully this feature is available soon

I really don't think it's going to be coming any time soon. @StinkySaul If this is a deal breaker, I would swiftly return your Versa 3. There was a previous suggestion from years earlier and all it brought was the companion Spotify app. A useless app.

please allow spotify to play music offline on your smart watches. Its totally pointless if you need to go jogging with your phone .

Really regretted to have purchase versa 3. Please do something

The developers should let us, Spotify Premium Users, download music to our watch, just like we can do on any other Spotify platform. The integration can be done either through the Fitbit phone app or with the Spotify app. But we need some kind of solution and soon. A lot of people have been returning their Versa 3 because of this serious flaw.

Versa 3 lost support for uploading music, without alternative of offline Spotify. Someone screwed up with such feature planning.

Literally just spent a load of money on a Versa 3, spent hours setting it all up to run with gps and offline spotify playlists just to find this isn't a possibility. Going to sell for a Garmin Venu. Well annoyed.

@HenryN92 , @matt_price93 and everyone else, even if you decided to sell your Versa, please still upvote this requests to bump it up, as courtesy to your fellow former fitbitters 🙂

Like everyone else, I bought a Versa 3 expecting offline playlists for spotify. Big disappointment so i'm selling it for a Garmin Venu. Fitbit must be losing out on so much money from this simple issue. It's a shame as the fitbit app and watch UI is really nice.

If some sort of time frame was offered for this feature then i'd stick with the versa and temporarily use deezer, but nothings been said about it at all.

BexK

It really upsets me to read how many people bought a versa 3 or sense expecting Spotify to work offline, only to find out once they have opened the box that it won't, and are then left having to try flog the watch on ebay I guess . Fitbit must be making so much money off claiming they support Spotify in all their marketing literature (not so easy to understand it's only when you're phone is present) when in fact it's not really true! Surely this is a form of false advertising? On another note though I can't believe so many people happily part with hundreds of wonga without checking first what they are buying! I read dozens of reviews before comitting as I knew I'd be upset with myself if I bought something I didn't like, and quickly realised I need to look for an alternative.... The garmin venu is thankfully great!

BexK

@LisaCanada hope you've returned the fitbit, this has been an issue they didn't want to fix for YEARS! Would recommend you look into the garmin venu in a similar price bracket, the only thing on it that's not excellent is sleep tracking but I can live with that as they have a cool body battery feature instead which gives you similar info.
