Well it seems I am yet another person looking for the ability to use both my Ionic and new Charge 3 on the same account.
I started with Fitbit back in 2012 and over the years have had a number of their devices. My current setup:
Charge 2 => which I used for Sleep monitoring and when doing activities like gardening where the device could get scratched.
Ionic => which I used daytime generally as it was more watch-like and professional when meeting clients than the Charge 2.
The Charge 2 Heart Rate monitoring is no longer working consistently enough for detailed sleep monitoring despite the HR graph not showing gaps. So, I figured I'd get a Charge 3 since it's the Charge 2 with some upgrades. That way I can use the Charge 3 for Sleep monitoring, and the Ionic as is, and then the Charge 2 can continue for gardening.
But, alas, I only get the option to switch from Ionic to Charge 3.....
This thread appears to be nearly 9 months old which indicates it's a long known limitation and yet the brand new Charge 3 packaging, documents and the Fitbit website fail to warn of this limitation.
I am very disappointed in the current situation and the lack of warning and/or indication about if/when this will be rectified. I have 6 people within my own family that all currently have Fitbit devices based on my usage and recommendation and I have even been lobbying for them to remain with Fitbit despite the advances with the Apple Watch.
I currently have very mixed thoughts about this situation and will have to seriously consider what I do. At a minimum, it looks like I might be returning the Charge 3 but what I do after that I am not sure right now.
I own every fitbit made thought the zip to the versa. I would not have bought the versa had i know I could not switch between it and ionic with ease. Bummed longtime customer
Another loyal customer adding my fury! I’ve had the ionic for a while and love it but find it a bit bulky sometimes so purchased the versa to wear during the day with intention to switch back to ionic for workouts - now seeing as I can’t have both on my device (and switch is far from as easy as you make it out to be) I will be returning the Versa and considering whether to switch to an Apple Watch.
I have also returned my Charge 3 due to this issue. Really unfortunate software limitation/design decision, especially given the competitions lack of restrictions in this area. Also probably add this reason to return reasons to track how much this happens. Regards, Mark
Allow 2 of the same type tracker on one account. - I have an ionic (gift) and an Adidas ionic - but Fitbit won't allow me to add both to the same account. -This would be useful - to just switch between the two, ie if one was charging - or being fixed or whatever, and I could just switch to the other one, but keep all stats.
Hi @Anjaya, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us, this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is not currently planned.
Please allow users to have both the Versa and Charge 3 on one account. I wear one to work and one for home and it’s very inconvenient to have to setup 2 accounts and switch back and forth. My charge 3 replaced my broken Charge 2 which was on the same account as my Versa.
I use both Versa and Charge 3. I have them set up on two different accounts as both cannot use one account. I would like to see my stats combined so accurate stats are uploaded to other paired apps and so my weekly stats are captured I. One place and dashboard.
I was excited to get the new Charge 3 as a second device to alternate usage with my Ionic, but frustrated when I found out these two devices cannot coexist on one account. Was able to do this with the Charge 2, but was explained to me Ionic and Charge 3 are considered "Smart Watches" and function differently. I'm going to return the Charge 3 and hope this changes in the near future.
Dear Fitbit we would like to know if there is any update since APRIL of last year?
This is a very frustrating limitation and even more frustrating was how difficult it was to figure out these devices can't be on one account... Please fix!
Add me to the long list of disappointed customers...
I have owned most every Fitbit since 2014, and had previously had more than one device set-up concurrently on my single account. Have owned the Versa since it came out, and just received the s/e Charge 3 and was excited to set it up, but then noticed it asked if I wanted to “switch”. That lead me here – NO I don’t want to “switch” – I want to ADD so I can buy/own/have not one of your products, but TWO! But this really is an actual limitation?! Really bummed about that – not looking forward to have to add/remove my devices every time I want to wear the other.
The worst part? Fitbit’s lack of response or updates. Someone must read all these comments right?? How hard is it to say we’re aware of the issue and working on a fix, due sometime ______? Or we are unable to have two devices concurrently on the same account because _____?
I started with a Charge, Charge HR, Surge, Blaze, Ionic, Versa and finally a Charge 2. The Versa was for me to port my clock faces and apps across. It is a pain switching between the Ionic and Versa, so I tend to use one until it is time for more dev, then I have to swap. The reason I didn't buy a Charge 3, I wanted a replacement for my Charge HR but wanted to use it at the same time.
I would send your Charge 3 back and exchange it for a Charge 2.
Given how long this thread has been running I wouldn't expect a fix anytime soon.
BTW Changing between Ionic and Versa only takes a few minutes, just fully sync up the old device first and then add the new one, not something you want to do every day but once a week is not too bad.
I found this out the hard way too and I guess I now have to decide between the Versa and the Charge 3. Since I want a smaller one for times that I don't want to wear a watch... Guess the versa will get returned. Would like to know when this gets resolved.
Please fix it so that the Charge 3 & Ionic can be on the same account. I was very disappointed and believe you would see a sales increase if this was implemented. Currently having to totally remove one only to have to go thru adding another is too time consuming and keeping a lot of people away from purchasing your latest products.
I have a Charge 2 and 2 Versas. I have been able to add one verse and the Charge 2 to the app. However if I wear my second versa I cannot record the fitness activity into the app. When will this be updates.
Rather than making this better, they are making it WORSE!
I used to have my Ionic, Blaze and Surge on my account all at the same time.
I hadn't used the Surge for a while, so I removed it from my account in order to speed up sync times. Today I realized my Ionic battery had died, and I had left my charging cable at work, along with my Blaze that I switch to while the Ionic charges.
I tried adding the Surge back to my account just to use it for the night, and it removed the Ionic.
What the hell is WRONG with these people? Have they completely lost their goddamned minds? You can't run a company like this! I am seriously considering getting rid of all my Fitbit stuff and switching to a different brand. This is intolerable!
Please please please allow my charge3 and versa on the same account! I literally have almost all the Fitbit device and I love to switch from one to another for different occasions. Unable to have both devices under the same account really annoys me. So please fix it before you lose more customers!
Hello. I think I figured out a way to use both the Charge 3 and Versa on one account. I pair the Charge 3 on the days where I want to use that device. On the other days I pair the Versa on that same account which then forgets the Charge 3 but does capture all daily data on one account dashboard. It’s a bit annoying to pair when you want to wear a different device but I think it will capture all data on one dashboard and the weekly stats will be complete on one account. My goal was to see all data on one account dashboard so I’m willing to take the few minutes to pair when switching devices
This should not be limited to ionic/versa, but any combo of tracker, even the same model. If you have 2 charge HRs and use one for workout and the other everyday use, who cares? I'm trying to do the same with my ionic and adidas ionic but regardless of which I choose, the app states I already have it. I want to use the one for my exercise and the other to wear out (NOT as in used up and broken but out to dinner, going to work, etc). All in all, I'm for this, just open it to any tracker combo. Heck, it should allow you to add as many trackers as one wants (dont judge me if I want a different tracker for each day). The easiest way to make this work is changing the active tracker in the device list. Just tap to make active, double tap to edit the settings. To keep data in sync, auto sync the current tracker before switching to the additional tracker. Furthermore, if needed, make it a requirement to have internet access to make the switch so it can sync, or, allow the app to temporarily store the data until it can sync.
Once upon a time, I did have a charge, charge hr, charge hr 2, and blaze on here. At the time, I only used one at a time but did this so at least one tracker was always fully charged and ready to be worn. It was great because when I went.to sync, the app would sync all the trackers so if I put another one on, it was up to date on steps, etc. Seems like this feature actually devolved instead. When ever a function is removed, it would be nice to know why. I get functions become deprecated over time, but that is usually because a newer, more advanced function replaced it. If it were the case, it'd be nice to know that developing the FitbitOS, supporting multiple trackers was not possible but actively looking into supporting it again, or it was way too buggy that it was nixed in order to improve upon that function, but definately dont stay silent on a feature removal and hope no one notices, because eventually people do notice and then get angry. I personally love the fitbit app, it's great, sure it can be improved but the layout is nice and the charts are comprehensive, the ability of the trackers are okay, but the build quality is so terrible, I've gone through 5 Charge HR trackers in one year, and that is taking care of them, making sure not to get them wet. I wet through 3 or 4 blazes in another year, and 2 ionics in 2018. The track record is terrible, I only stick with it because my employer gives these out every couple of years, so it is sort of mandatory.
