I currently own 2 ionic and a charge 3, and have to manually disconnect and pair them as new devices every time i want to switch between then. Samsung gear doesn't have this issue, Samsung gear devices detect what watch I am wearing and sync automatically to that watch, I wish Fitbit can implement something like this.
Possibly in the wrong thread but certainly related. When you add the Fitbit Charge 3 you also have "switch" delete your Versa. Bizarre, however let's assume that there is some technical difficulty in allowing them both to exist, in fact I am really giving you the benefit of the doubt that it is difficult to do. but I do believe you have a duty of disclosure in VERY CLEAR messaging that the Fitbit Charge 3 / Versa / Iconic cannot REALLY co-exist within your ecosystem. That is my issues, I have the Fitbit Charge 3 and the Versa and now I have to "choose" which one I use, if you disclosed it in a very obvious way then I accept that some things for now cannot be done, but to "hide" that from your Fitbit customers is a extremely poor judgment call when it comes to trusting your supplier. The can be ONLY one reason it is not disclosed = $$$$$ and that trade off with your customers will perhaps lead to a demise in loyalty. I can live without your product and can get my money back, can you live with irate customers - not in the long term. Your marketing team may believe people will forget, not sure I would trust that advice. I believe you have an obligation to put a "banner" within your website clearly highlighting the shortcoming in your current ecosystem, I dont believe it unreasonable for any client to assume it would work based on previous multi-device capability. Look into your soul and simply do the right thing. the world is full of companies ripping off consumers, dare to be different!

It’s great that you can have 5 Fitbit devices on a single user login on the app, but why are we not multiples of the same device. I have a charge 3 and I have a teenager with special needs who also has a charge 3. She doesn’t have her own iPhone/iPad, which means I have to log in and out of mine to hers each time I want to check her progress or mine in a more detailed way
It’s great that Fitbit has an option to add a child to the account, but the Fitbit ACE isn’t the only option for children. A lot of parents/guardians will have guardianship long after there child turns 18, and there should be a way to make it simple for them too. I love the idea of a family account, but this app setup is only inclusive for nuclear style families, for parents with children who will one day be able to run their own Fitbit account, however that isn’t the case for a large number of families with kids/adults with special needs or even aging parents.
I do switch between a Charge 3 and an Ionic. I have owned many different Fitbit trackers, and having multiple devices on one account is important to me. I'm disappointed that this isn't an option with these new Fitbits. It takes too long to add a device and set-up all the options each time I want to switch. I shouldn't have to choose between the Charge 3 and Ionic. I paid $450 for these 2 devices. Fitbit should make it easy to use both devices at the same time, as they don't have exactly the same capabilities.
Fitbit charge 3 being returned i have an Ionic... i wanted charge 3 for climbing and the ionic for running... the ionic is a little fragile for climbing.
I would like to be able to have both my Versa and Ionic on the same account. I find it very frustrating that I spent this kind of money to not be able to have them both on my account. It is not an easy process to keep adding them every time I want to switch them out.
Fitbit should allow versa and charge 3 in one account. Agree with the others, your followers spend a great deal of money for these and should be able to enjoy the diff features of each
With the news that the Charge 3 also can't work if a Versa or Ionic is on the account, I'm really thinking of taking advantage of Black Friday prices to switch from Fitbit's ecosystem to Garmin's. It seems that the Ionic, Versa, and Charge 3 all are built on a new shared OS that doesn't support being linked to a single account.
Given how long this thread has been going on, I'm not holding my breath that they're planning to allow multiple devices featuring the new Fitbit OS to be shared on a single account.
As a long time Fitbit user who had both the Ionic and the Versa, I gave up. It was a pain, but after three weeks of owning the Apple Watch series 4, I haven’t looked back. And I won’t. Fitbit has let me down for the last time. And the Apple Watch HR monitor is much more accurate for me.
I share the same problem. I recently upgraded from the Charge 2 to Charge 3 as the battery was failing on the Charge 2. But I also use an Ionic, particularly as it has the GPS feature and so links into Strava.
The Charge 2 and Ionic sat quite happily as stablemates in my Fitbit account, making it easy to swap devices when I wanted. The integration was actually very good.
However, the Charge 3 is apparently not an upgrade to the Charge 2; even tho it shares the same model name and was sold to me by Fitbit at a discount to upgrade. And it does the same as the previous model.... it is apparently a different type of device entirely... a watch, not a tracker... so far from being an upgrade it is a aignificant downgrade in functionality.
So now I have both a Charge 3 and an Ionic but neither work together.
I really don’t understand or believe the marketing and product team in Fitbit have thought this through;,far from building brand loyalty and locking customers into the Fitbit family of products they are pushing customers to competitors as the only way to get the same fubcfionality.
Thankfully I am not a shareholder, so it will only cost me the price of a new sports watch - but the Ionic will be going on eBay and Garmin now firmly on my Christmas list.
I'm livid. I've been talking to Fitbit on Facebook, which referred me to this post. I was told I could still have my blaze, hr, and alta, on the account but I had to switch between my Charge 3, Versa, and Ionic. Well, I've always had assortment of Fitbits and lovs to switch it up. Now I literally only have one tracker on the account. Ridiculous. I'm ready to sell all of my Fitbits and go a different route. I've always been loyal. I don't get why you'd want to hurt sales and upset a loyal customer base. Clearly, other asinine changes have taken place, because I can't even have more than one tracker... Not the smart trackers. Just the older basic trackers. My kids even have the Ace. I'm disgusted. Fix this. Or I'm out. A lot of us are. Don't you like money and people buying the products you create?
Considering the lack of official updates from Fitbit since this thread was started, I wouldn't be holding my breath.
I imagine we won't get any "official" response beyond, "Vote for the feature!" or "We're investigating this functionality for a future release." I'd love to be surprised about this, but doubt I will be.
Given their Q3 report I'm pretty certain they'll be focusing their energy on the next Versa and the additional sales that come with the accessories that can contribute more financially than appeasing users (even longtimes ones like myself) who enjoyed that Fitbit offered the chance to have different trackers for different activity types.
At this point, Garmin seems to be more committed to multi-device support if that's the driving factor. The other option is to get an Apple Watch. It seems that the Apple Watch will get electrocardiogram functionality in the next OS update, and meanwhile there still isn't an ETA from Fitbit on activating the SpO2 sensors.
Upgrade my charge 2 to charge 3 and love it!!! On Black Friday got the Versa, and can’t setup both in my account! Just realized that I need to choose! Fitbit why????? Having two Fitbit account that doesnt merge data doesn’t solve the issue. I will not I set one and then the other, because is nonsense, it’s like starting again (setting new device over and over again) with the app notifications etc....and I believe that the situation can be fix by Fitbit. Please fix it soon.....I want to keep the Versa, but if this is not fixed, will be returned to Fitbit.com
Could we ever have the option if we had 2 Versa's to keep them both in our account without the "replace" option? For instance if we have a rose gold and silver face can't we name it like Versa 1 or Versa 2 or Versa rose vs Versa silver? Just a suggestion for those who may own 2 and like to switch.
Hello @dg72 ! Thanks for sharing this suggestion, I moved it to this similar post as it's not currently planned. Please keep sharing your ideas with us!
Well any update on this? I just got a Charge 3 and I didn't know I couldn't have both a 3 and an Ionic on the same account. Should I just return the 3? It seems pointless to have two when you can use them.
@Unojohn Yes, unfortunately. I currently have an Ionic Charge 2, Alta HR, and Aria 2, and will start to slowly migrate away from Fitbit as each device needs replacing. Given the sheer length of this thread (which is certainly something Fitbit isn't too concerned about) combined with the high sales of the Versa, I think they're not too worried about multi-device users. I think they essentially see: 1) Casual fitness trackers who want an affordable Apple Watch: Versa
2) Committed fitness trackers who don't want/need a smart watch: Charge 3
I'm not sure if we'll even see a follow-up to the Ionic. I wouldn't be surprised if they instead release the Versa 2 with an Adidas version that is more sport-oriented. If they add a GPS option at a higher price point to the SE version along with the existing NFC premium, it doesn't seem like there is much incentive for them to keep the Ionic around, especially since it helps get rid of the multi-device use case, which clearly poses some sort of technical, OS-related challenge that make it not worth their time, even with customer churn, to fix.
