Allow night shift reminders to move (or customized hours)

Please allow night shift hours to be selected for reminders to move. I work 7p to 7a at the hospital and the current feature only allows half of my shift to be selected. It doesn't recognize those 12 hours as consecutive hours. It would also be helpful to select different time frames for different days. I work nights 3 days a week, but the rest of the week I am awake and active during the day. I'd like to customize the reminders for certain hours on specified days.

Totally agree. I and many colleagues in the ferry industry and those in many other industries such as airports, hospitals and many others work shifts. Lack of nightshift function decreases the usefulness of the product for many thousands of people. In a 24/7 world this is an odd deficiency. I hope you can address it. Thanks.

I requested this feature so long ago that I've moved to a day shift position. The lack of caring about fixing this broken feature frankly killed my interest in the device, along with wearing out two first party wrist bands in the first year. I found the fitbit one that I had lost and I'll probably start using that again.

My husband works alternating shifts, a few weeks/months he works normal early days, then a few weeks/months he has to work nights. Reminders to move does not work for his full night shift, so he loses those. Also, when he switches from days to nights and viceversa, he changes his reminders to move as well, but he loses his previous stats (i.e. for day shift he uses 5am to 7pm, for nights he would like to use 3pm to 5am, but when he does the switch, it tells him he had 0 out of 14 hours in the previous week, so it changes the history as well, according to the current hours setting - not sure if I make myself understood). So I think it would be good if the Reminders to Walk history would not get edited based on the current settings, if you actually did your steps last week, they should not go away. Thank you!

Agree and disappointed that this was not fixed in latest update. Guess they really do not care about 2nd and 3rd shift workers. I will be looking into a different tracker when this one dies.

Give up, they aren't listening to us! I'm an RN 7p-7a...ive been banging my head against this proverbial wall for 2 years now...yours us a recent purchase? Take it back now and get the Garmin version. It does everything the Charge 2 does plus allows you to regulate your activity reminders. I'm too cheap to just abandon this purchase but as soon as my Fitbit dies I'm going to Garmin!

Although I can certainly understand everyone's frustration...particularly those of us who have been asking for this feature to be updated for longer than 2+years.....this type of suggestion/request will only get attention when the votes grow to a high enough number that would suggest a large portion of Fitbit users want this.  It has been 2+years and there isn't even 500 votes for it.  500 Users compared to the total number of Fitbit users does not show a large demand for it.  Clicking the voting button more than once will reduce or "0" out your previous vote.  Until the numbers grow substantially - the most action we will see is the occasional post from a Moderator to prove they "do" pop in once in awhile so are aware of the request.  In the meantime....being in the same boat...I feel your pain.  The next time I look to replace my device - it may not be a Fitbit.

I understand fully, and I already have voted. My next device will not be a Fitbit. I am waiting for mine to die and then on to another device:

I work night shift also. I would love to be able to set the 250 step to cover the whole shift instead of having to change it all the time.

Hello fellow night shifters. I recently rejoined your ranks and went to change my hourly activity tracking and was amazed that a 24 hr tracking option wasn’t available. It seems like a no brainer. FitBit fix it!! If you can’t manage 24 hrs at least bump it up to 18 hrs (I mean really, who out there is sleeping 10 hrs?) and give us the ability to straddle midnight.

The fitbit twitter support suggested I comment here.  Was very happy to get an Alta HR for Christmas.  But am now bummed that the activity reminders are essentially useless since I work as a night shift nurse.  Thought they would be so perfect as a reminder in the middle of the night on a shift where my patients are actually sleeping for once to get up and move around more.  But nope.  I can't imagine why this isn't a feature.  It's very annoying.

Hi there,

Agreed. I’m a steward on board a ferry. Every other working week is an 84 hour night shift. I’ve long suspected I work considerably more at night than on days but have no way of measuring a whole night with this modern, high-tech piece of equipment. Apparently they want enough votes for night shift before they’ll get their engineers to program what they should have programmed in the first place. They keep tying to get me to buy another one. Don’t think I’ll bother.

Allow the hours tracked to span a calendar day. Currently the selectable range of hours for the Hourly Activity tracker is limited to a single calendar day, 12am to 12am. I work shiftwork, so some weeks my active hours are 5pm to 7am. I currently have to choose to track 5pm to 12am or 12am to 7am or change the tracker at midnight every night. The app will not let me track 5pm to 7am.

I would like to see a change to the activity hours on the app.

I work shifts (7:30 - 7:30) 2 days 2 nights.

I am awake at hours that most are not and usually on my first night im awake all day and then all night. so restricting to 14 hours is kind of pointless. I know it still logs in the overall steps but when I looked at my activity this morning it looks like I only did 3 hours of activity (was sleeping the rest of the normal 9-5)

I would also love to be able to have flexibility in the reminders to move because there are times when I’m up from anywhere from 20 to 36 hours at a time. I know that in it’s self is bad for me and needs to stop but between my work and family I can’t stop.

I work rotating shifts and it's frustrating that I can't use features such as reminders to do 250 steps overnight. I have to choose half of my shift. It would be awesome if I could make my "day" vary by day without affecting previous "days" also changing their timeframes.

Would be a great feature to have for all those night owls who would like to benefit from the same features - prompts to ensure moving every hour.

365 comments and 512 votes...this is just silly that this idea has been blown off. Ridiculous!

Currently the Hourly Activity app will not allow you to set the Reminders to Move times past 7pm. I work 7pm-7am at a desk and would love to get those reminders & goals throughout my shift (without manipulating the system at midnight) as my job is very sedentary.

Just a suggestion for future developments (fitbit and 3rd party). Most apps are developed not taking into account those working nights (nurses, doctors, skill trades, etc). I know many, like myself, bought a product such as fitbit to help monitor health as working nights has many complexities to maintaining health. Love the product, just not always functional or practical for those looking to keep healthy at night.

I have the same problem. It also means it's harder to track calories etc so maybe if the features could also be tailored to a night shift workers lifestyle this would be great

Any way you guys could set up steps per hour to be used by nightshift workers? It won't let me start at 10 pm and run to 8am... So if I turn it on I can only get step reminders while I sleep. Thanks!

As someone who works night shift, I don’t think the Fitbit app is as user friendly for me as it would be for someone who works a normal 9am-5pm job. My main suggestion is to make the times of things tracked more adjustable. For instance, I personally would like my tracker to reset at 8am instead of midnight. I was also trying to set up reminders to move every hour from 6pm-8am and because the tracker resets at midnight I am unable to do that. I can set for 6pm-11:59pm or 12am-8am but I cannot do the whole time I would like. I would just suggest allowing a little more adjustment with things like that.

As a Sheriff's Deputy, I work 12-hour shifts. For two months I'll be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and for the next two months I'll work the opposite shift. When I'm on days I can use the hourly activity function fine, but on nights it's essentially useless. PLEASE make it so we can set our activity hours to go past midnight, or so that we can set two activity periods per day (such as 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., and 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.) This seems like a VERY simple fix that could be pushed with the next update.

THANKS!! Love my Fitbit 😀

More flexibility in the reminders to move or to set your active time for those who work over night or longer shifts that start before midnight 12 am and end after 12 pm. Perhaps military time would be better.
