Allow us to create custom meals on Fitbit app

Given that the community has been asking for this for 10 years, and now you will no longer have access to "create a meal" via the web version of the dashboard, it's making it harder for me to a fan and supporter of Fitbit, and I've been a fan for more than a decade. Please have the app have at least the same features as the web version (e.g., create a meal), but since it doesn't already exist, add the feature for # of servings to make our lives easier please!

I agree with this. There are some features of the web dashboard that were much easier than on the app such as copying an item to another day or creating a whole meal that you can add in one click versus six, especially if you have the same six things every day for breakfast, for example. If the app had all of the features of the dashboard, then MAYBE it would be OK, but certainly, the option to use one or the other or BOTH is preferable for your customers. Please bring the dashboard option back. Or at the very least, beef up the app with ALL of the features of the dashboard.

The app is problematic at best. I want the functionality that was present in the Dashboard. You're just trying to cut corners and costs by refusing to put resources into the Dashboard. Oh, and by the way, the App does not show Max HR, only average. You have to guess at Max based on the tiny graph shown on the phone.

Googles accessibility statement;

'When we say we want to build for everyone – we mean it. Accessibility is written into our mission statement and is core to our values as a company. We don’t think a problem is solved until we’ve solved it for everyone. Technology’s great promise is to give everyone the same power to achieve their goals. As long as there are barriers for some, there’s still work to be done.”

I need the dashboard because I like to log meals & the app does not add up my calories for the day as I put them in. I use this so I make sure I eat enough, I like to know the protein / Carbohydrates / fat. percentages. I also need it to correct the calorie count on my exercise because the harder I work out the lower my HR goes on the Fitbit.  Also the sleep tracking in the app is no good, you cant tell what time you woke up in the night.  If you are not going to bring it back at least make the app as good as the dashboard.

What an old thread (and idea)!

I don't hold out much hope that "Meals" will get added to the app, although it is encouraging that the developers have added my existing meals (created in the Web dashboard) to the custom foods area in the app.

Creating "Meals" simplifies the process of adding things that you regularly eat - Come on guys, wake up and smell the coffee!

I agree with the above comments. I am trying to edit a meal and I find that the dashboard I used to use is no longer available. I would also like to delete some meals. Unable to enter all nutrients on the fit bit app. Need the dash board data base for that. Do not assume all food items can be scanned into app. Some do not exist and often scanned data does not match data on the packaging. There has been an issue with some of the nutritional data. After entering data from package in the past. Example: Iron content entered as 1% and then I notice that my iron consumption is 110%. When I check the individual food item I see the iron % has changed from what was originally enter. I reported to Support but it was never fixed.

We are supposed to buy over-priced, chemical-laden packaged foods and scan the barcode with our phones.

We are NOT supposed to buy whole food INGREDIENTS, prepare our own food, and use a web app to track the nutrients.

Since the website is now useless for any purpose than posting here, that's what I'll do for the next week, after which I will buy another product.

Agree.  I use the custom foods and custom meals a lot.

We are supposed to use our phones to scan bar codes of processed, packaged crap.  Not buy whole food ingredients and use the Create Meal and Custom Food features to accurate track our nutrition.  What was I thinking?

This is just a stupid situation to be in for a "Health & Fitness" application. I've even gone to the lengths of created a mini-app to create my own custom foods with servings and nutrition so I can add the information into the FitBit app. It's so dumb that the only thing holding me to this app is my Pixel watch and the integration.

Bottom line: if a small 1-man dev can solve this for themselves, then it's embarrassing that a Google owned app cannot iterate on their own application. Once this watch gives out I'm done with this stupid service.

I create a meal and eat the leftovers.  By allowing me to create the meal online it easy to add later.  I have not been able to do that on the app.  Additionally, when I search in the app for foods, the meals that I added on the web don't show up.  I have to scroll through the custom list that includes all deleted meals and items added YEARS ago.  Additionally, when a meal is modified on the web, the app has that meal (when you find it) with all ingredients (ones removed and added) which makes it incorrect when you add it.  I eat a lot of homemade foods, not prepackaged, so removing ability to easily create and add 'meals' is bad.  Please bring back the website!

I am officially done with this nonsense.

Google obviously doesn't care about good products for individual people.
They half-bake everything, degrade that which they buy that was fully
baked, and then move on to more half-baked goods and degradation.

It appears the bulk of their time is spent on future-casting, conferences,
making search worse, and attempting to create the information environment
rather than making the existing information environment easier to access
and manipulate.

This blows.  I've been using Fitbit since 2014 and hen I went to modify a meal today I could not get into the dashboard, via a browser.
I thought to myself "well surely this must exist in the app, they wouldn't remove such a great feature, it would be really un-smart"

Welp, I was right, it certainly IS Un-smart.

How can I log what I eat on fitbit on line without using the app please?

The food section of the app is NOT AT ALL comparable to the one we had on the desktop/computer version, especially when it comes to adding/deleting favorite foods and  creating/editing meals. I can not believe access to the web version was removed pretty much without any communication or warning and without ensuring customers would be able to transition to the app seamlessly. I *could* use the app if it had the functionality of the web dashboard but I also understand many people can not because of limitations. Such a disappointing and shocking move from Fitbit. After 12+ years of loyalty, I might have to take my fitness and health goals to another brand that listens and respects its customers.

Agreed. As a new user, I just took this feature for granted because without it the nutrition tracking is inadequate. Who eats ready meals exclusively three times a day or wants to spend their time scanning repeatedly?

It's an easy win to restore or replace this functionality.

Those of us with highly restrictive diets don't eat anything in a package.
We buy whole food ingredients and make our own.
JackGuest

Completely agree, Larry. I'm not even on a restrictive diet though and can't imagine trying to track food without this. It's a glaring omission.

To those of us lamenting the loss of web features, note that food logging, including meal creation & editing, came back (maybe never went away?). Go directly to https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log after logging in.
This for me was the big issue so I'm going to restore one of the stars I took away on my app store review.

The food log direct link still works (for now)

Also the API seems to have create meal option so we could probably code up a tool if needed.
