CIBC banking (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce)

Hello: I really want to buy the Fitbit ionic, I think it's great. I already have the Fitbit flex 2.

I won't buy the Ionic tho, until you've partnered with CIBC, I bank wIth CIBC, and once I can link and use my bank card with the Ionic, please let me know and I will head out to buy it 🙂

Hi @Kimbilou, thank you for sharing that you would like to see CIBC banking included on the compatibility list for Fitbit Pay. I've moved  your suggestion here, since it's a similar request. Don't forget to add your vote! And thank you again for your participation in the Community.

They are wasting our time. Many of us have been asking for years,
literally, and nothing has been added, let alone CIBC. I have a friend in
the UK and they have the same problem. I have been a loyal fitbit
customer for years and when my special edition Versa needs to be replaced,
I will be going to a competitor. Apple has CIBC as do quite a few of the
androids.

You know google bought Fitbit right. They will most likely replace Fitbit
pay with Google pay. Just be patient.

Maybe, currently Google is keeping a hands off approach.

I doubt that. The Fitbit acquisition was held up by Anti Trust investigation in the UK which was just finally resolved this year. They basically had to say they wouldn't sell our health information to the highest bidder. Now that is ironed out Im assuming they will have the full force of google behind them. Im guessing getting rid of Fitbit pay is an obvious easy win for them. As Fitbit Pay really didnt take off yet and was seriously lacking Bank support especially here in Canada.

Im assuming they will keep the Fitbit brand like they did with Nest but the underlying tech will start to look more like a Google service which I feel is a good thing. I love the Fitbit app but it would be nice to have more/all the features without having to shell out for Premium.

We will see, but Im guess we will start to see chnages by Summer 2021.

Cheers! G

Like Waze, I think we will be seeing more changes with Google rather than with fitbit, since Google has mentioned that they aware mainly interested in the meta data.

BTW it was also America, Canada, Australia, along with a few other regulatory agencies, and a few concerns with input from individual companies, held up the purchase.

yes, Googleverse can throw more resources at the problems for sure. I'm also guessing Fitbit paused a lot of their work until after the acquisition was completed.  Now they probably have the green light to get going on a lot of the projects and some probably got shelved indefinitely. I just hope they pick Fitbit Pay / Google Pay integration as the first problem to address. 😎 fingers crossed.

With full bank support, I would be a happy customer. I really don't like all the smartwatch things that are coming out. I love that Fitbit is minimal so to speak but still gives a ton of useful data. My charge 4 with Google pay would mean I could leave my phone and wallet at home when I go jogging. looking forward to that day.

Yes please add CIBC! I can’t use the wallet option otherwise.

@blynk the decision will be made by the bank.

Fitbit is unable to add a bank. It is the bank's responsibility to add fitbit.

@Hawkguy make sure your bank knows. Fitbit can not add a bank, the bank has to add fitbit pay.

@Rich_Laue I appreciate the response. I've actually decided to send my Versa 3 back. Just got it today and it's given me nothing but headaches with not connecting to Facebook friends, losing connection to Google Assistant and my phone constantly. Just very frustrated so I'm getting my money back.

My bank is CIBC in Canada. I'd like it to be a valid bank to add to my Fitbit wallet.

CIBC is one of Canada's top banks however it it not supported by Fitbit Pay. I feel that this should be addressed or there should he a way to install Samsung/Apple Pay as a work around.

I purchased the Ionic in 2018 with the intention to use Fitbit Pay it's been almost 4 years and still no CIBC will this be added or should I just switch to Apple watch not to mention I had to buy another Ionic in 2020 because my first Ionic broke and we only have a 1 year warranty in Canada.

Please add support for CIBC as it's one of the major Canadian banks, weird that it's not supported yet.

People! People! Give it up. CIBC support has been asked for for years.
FitBit doesn't care. They give lip service and then blithely move on. If
you really need CIBC then move to another smart watch.
