Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

Yes, we want to be able to customize our challenges!  Longer than a weekend or a workweek specifically!

I think an active minute challenge over Monday to Friday would shake thing up a bit. I have been doing the same challenge for about six months with the same people and whilst I have improved the same people always win. I would be great to try something different.

I'd like this as well. I like to do aerobic exercise, yoga and weights and would like to have set goals to aim for with my activities which are recognised as step goals are. I've given this my vote Smiley Happy

The flight of stairs challenges could be done so you climb mountains.  You could do something like an Inca Trail challenge, where rather than measuring the distance of the trek between overnight stops, you measure the altitude based on flights of stairs completed.

Calories challenge or "KCal Challenge" would be really nice to compete!

I agree!

I can go to the gym and lift weights and have a really hard lifting session, but my friend who is walking at work will beat me in the challenge (doesn't seem right!). I think many people would like the added challenges.

Thanks Fitbit team!

I like those ideas! I have some ideas as well.

I love the Fitbit challenges! Was wondering if maybe you could add a few more? Perhaps based on active minutes. And maybe making the app more interactive, such as having an hourglass and every step taken puts a grain of sand in the hourglass. This would make it fun for people to watch their steps add up! Or a design that starts with a seed and adds water for every 500 steps and when you reach your goal, a flower blooms. Just a thought.

would love an active minutes challenge, I can't compete with people who are on their feet all day with steps, but I'm sure I could have a run for first if we were doing active minutes.

The challenges need to have more scope to them.

For example on challenges now, it's based on steps. You should be able to choose calories, or active minutes and so on. I can spend 3 hours at the gym doing a lot of biking, rowing, and elliptical, but get few steps.

There needs to be more variety and customisation.

Adding just distance to challenges is not enough. Take yourself on a ride on a bike and you are golden. There should be something else to measure and compete with. I might be wrong, I´m definately no fitness wizard/guru but, shouldn´t METs fit this purpose a lot better?

Still I do think you should be able to set up your competition the way you want. But don´t just add distance.

As someone who bikes a ton and weightlifts 12 hours a week minimum, I'd love to see this feature.

I'd love to see more challenges such as stairs challenges, distance rather than steps since everyone's stride length is different and other sorts of challenges that are fun.

What if you more had challenges like you have for steps? Maybe a hill climber challenge? It would be like work week hustle, but for floors count instead of step count.

Or bonfire challenge where you try to see who can burn the most calories in a week.

Or a charging challenge where you see who can have the most minutes active in a week.

I mean since we have these extra metrics, why not gamify them as well?

I'd love to see this feature added!  I do a lot inclines on my daily walks and get disheartened when I see I've not reached the top of the leaderboard yet again but I've climbed A LOT!  7,000 steps with 30 floors (in very hot weather) is surely more of a workout than 10,000 flat steps?

I think it would be incredible to have challenges that feature the most active minutes, most stairs climbed, calories burned, distance travelled, etc. Why just limit ourselves to steps when we do much more!?

I agree and vote for custom challenges like this to be added.

I think it would be extremely motivating to have active minute challenges. I usually average about 12k steps a day but my active minutes are a good 100 mins plus a day and it's not an option to compete with anybody.

If you have a recorded exercise for the hour, like yoga, where you didn't walk 250+ steps but you exercised for more than 20 min, the Hourly Activity will count that hour as complete.

I agree. As a user I want to be able to compete with friends on any of the metrics available in the dashboard. Examples: Weightloss, body fat percent loss, hitting my calorie goal per day and/or week, etc.

I think it would be great to have a sleep challenge, to hit your goal time, as many days as possible, with in the acceptable healthy range of Sleep for you age.  Sleep is also so important for our health, weight loss, brain function and overall well being. It would be awsome to see this added into the challenges as fit bit is so health orientated.

It would be nice for challenges to be held across steps and distance. Users could toggle between the two, or the challenge organizer can set which metric when creating the Challenge. My wife and I have an ongoing argument how these challenges aren't fair for tall people because it's based on steps rather than distance. 🙂

I like this idea. I wish there would be other challenges as well, step challenges can get boring.

2.5 years to develop a challenge that everyone will benefit from? Come on Devs, this is nuts.

Pleeeease add a daily and weeks floors climbed challenge!

Three years later...  Still no flights challenges.  😞  How hard would this be to code?  Use the existing steps challenges and substitute the metric.  What, don't want to highlight that not all Fitbit Trackers track flights?
