Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

I think that we need an active minutes challenge cause people with arthritis could invest in the product and still enjoying challenge with friends and co cause not all the time do I have Steps cause I spin or bike for health and it would be great to compete for active minutes with my other friends and co worker

I have hoped for an active minutes challenge for years. Now that it has been reviewed I hope it actually happens.

It would be awesome if you could have an algorithm which could combine metrics such as distance, calories and active minutes to derive a "fit score" and have challenges based on that.

Would it be possible to implement a new challenge for active minutes? Sometimes I don't get a lot of steps in while I'm lifting, but my active minutes are awesome. It would be fun to have another type of challenge available other than steps.

Thanks!

Can I set my sleep goal at 3 hours?  Man LOL

It would be nice to have challenges that extend beyond steps. So, a weekly or daily challenge for most workouts complete, most active minutes, most stairs climbed, etc.

I have climbed over 75,000 floors since I started in April of 2015 ...but the last "life time badge" for floors shows a mere 35,000 floors nor does it say "achieved twice" etc.  That is a bummer.  SO YES more FLOORS, More Floor Badges, More Floor Challenges, and More Life time floor badges are needed!

How do you achieve so many floors. I live in a city with subway and
skyscrapers and could never do this. I do 50-75 daily and that's only
achievable by never taking any escalator nor elevator.

you do this by leaving the city and going for a hike in the mountains.

Ok. but then this is not possible on a daily basis for a full time working
person with an office job in a big city.

In two years, not really. After 5 years I'm about to hit 42k flights. A
couple of those years were less active though, so who knows. I'm averaging
25-30 flights per day.

Agreed.  Plenty of ways to do challenges apart from counting steps.  I can't walk much distance, but am happy to do workouts, biking, pool workouts, etc.  Those burn calories/cardio better than walking anyway and take less time, for me.  Come on, Fitbit, give us additional opportunities to challenge each other! You've proven you're more than just a pedometer.

We all know we can challenge our friends and try and beat their step total. However, recently I have given up hope in trying to beat them as my 8,000-10,000 daily steps doesn't touch their impressive 25,000 step days. It got me thinking, you loose motivation when you feel you can't achieve or beat someone else. But, competing against yourself, that is realistic and you're able to achieve it too, ideal for keeping you motivated. What my reason for owning a Fitbit is about. Therefore, my suggestion is to have a challenge or feature on the app to be able to beat yesterday's accumulated step total (your step total). Fitbit could even reward you with badges where's you have a certain amount of days you have beat the previous days total (e.g. 10 day streak, 30 day streak). I don't think I am the only one who would benefit from such feature, hence why I have decided to suggest it. Let me know what you think! Stef 🙂

I'd really like to see more challenges other than steps between friends! Like cardio minutes, water intake, calories burned...

I couldn't agree more!!! We need more challenges for sure.

I agree! I workout every day and cycle on most days and the only challenges are for steps taken. I would love more variety!

I am very sad to see that this idea forum started 2 years ago and nothing has been done to meet the consumer's needs and desires for product improvement. How disappointing. Makes my fitbit experience less than satisfying and may lead me to pursue purchasing competitor's products instead and returning my fitbit for a refund. Will also add this conformation  to my online review of the product.

@Logoael,

Do you want to participate in a calorie challenge where your competition will start with a 694 calorie head start on you every day?

Because that's precisely what could happen if you compete with folks of a different gender, weight, height or age.  Folks with different stats burn calories at a different rate.

How about just calories burned when being active? The software could just take into consideration calories you burn during exercise. Fitbit recognizes times you are active automatically so it won't be a problem.
