Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

@Brit_flong @vandella @smb44589 Nice suggestion, thanks for sharing. We look forward to hearing what other community members think.

Please enable us to challenge one another on the other exercise options that are available.  Some days I am not able to meet my step goal because I have chosen to do yoga or bike instead.  And while the exercise is recorded, I can't compete and that's the fun of the fitbit community to me - the competition.

Has Fitbit given up? These challenges do not seem hard to implement. There are a lot of people that want these features. I’m really surprised you have not put energy into this inovation. It looks like some of these comments go back 3 years.

With almost 700 comments and nearly 2000 votes - why is this not yet implemented??? This seems like a simple upgrade...

I would love to see at least active minute challenges but it would be awesome to be able to challenge your friends on all tracked information!

Yes, please add a water consumption challenge! Adding a competition will help get everyone to their daily intake goals.

I think it would be great if everything we had the option to track was also an option to have a challenge with. Thanks!

Yes, Please!!!  While I track my steps and certainly want to set goals and reach them in that regard, that is not my only goal or objective for using a Fitbit.  My main objective is just to move more in general - i.e., number of days I exercise per week and number of active minutes.  I agree with previous posters, I would LOVE to see challenges available for all of the various things Fitbit tracks - days of exercise, floors, miles, minutes of activity, meeting daily water intake goals, etc.  Fitbit isn't only about number of steps, so let's have the ability to challenge, motivate, and encourage each other in all the other areas as well.

When the only challenges I can participate in are number of steps and I lose the challenge every time -- even though I know I've had a GREAT week because I worked out 30-60 minutes 5 days that week but 3 of those days were strength training so step count was lower -- well, it is discouraging. Not all of us run 10 miles a day, but that certainly doesn't mean we don't get in just as much of a workout some other way.

We all love a little positive reinforcement rather than being told our hard work doesn't count because it wasn't the right kind of work.

This is an excellent explanation for how most of us feel! Thank you for writing it out so well, for Fitbit to understand!

for how many years have people been making this same comment?  has fitbit incorporated a single one of the suggestions?  no.  They obviously either don't read these, or don't seem to care and think their historical superiority will sustain them while google, apple, etc catch up.  get your sh*t together, fitbit.  i say this as a LONG time user.

I'm a tennis player, and my only option right now is to just let it count steps and then put the activity in manually-Sometimes I'l put it on run or workout, just to see if it makes a difference. I would love to see a sport icon. The same applies to fitness walking which is a faster pace that just steps, but it isn't a run. I have a charge 2

As you do weekly challenges of steps why not do a weekly challenge for calories burnt

I have been a Fitbit user for at least 5 yrs now ! I’ve had the zip, the Flex, I currently have the Flex 2 and Blaze . I would like to see more challenges added it’s been way to long ! Here’s some suggestions Appalachian trail, pacific crest trail , Grand Canyon , I could go on and on ! Will there be any more updates to Blaze as I know the versa is coming out which I would love but can’t afford right now . Please consider adding more challenges and solo ones as well !!! Thanks

@Nicki1405,

Different folks burn calories at drastically different rates.  These are the caloric burn graphs for a man and woman roughly the same age, but different weights:

Thus caloric burn challenges would be severely lopsided.  In this case, the woman would need to burn over 50% more calories to match the man.

But as I do more workouts like, weights, rowing machine, bike my steps are
very minimal but my calorie burns is a lot more and hits target every day
but when in a weekly step challenge I’m bottom every time. I was just a
thought as I no longer watch my step count just my very active minutes and
calorie burn

@Nicki1405,

I understand that, but if you do a challenge based on caloric burn, you may end up doing weights, rowing machine, and cycling and still end up being behind someone who does nothing.  The above graph is for a man who does nothing (not a single step, not a single activity) and still burns 1950 calories from his BMR; how hard do you have to work to burn 1950 calories in a day?

Yes please! After a year of doing the same challenges with the same friends I’m bored... I’m always on top of the step challenge because of my job vs. theirs.

I’d like to see challenges the SAME friends can kick my butt at because we all have different strengths but the current challenges only showcase mine.

Yes, this would be great!

Especially an active minutes one!

A few times a week I do circuit training, which doesn't count for a lot of steps, but I still want to be competitive with my friends!

-floors climbed challenge

-active minutes challenge

-sleep challenge? haha

-goal day: percentage water intake?

This would definitely help mix it up!
