Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

Absolutely agree! I can’t always get lots of steps because the exercise I’m doing doesn’t add a lot of steps, though it is still a good workout!

I don't seem to be able to find anything since Nov 2018, and can't add a comment to that post anyway.

I'm really surprised there aren't any swim challenges, like there are in steps. Somewhere for multiple users to "compete " , first to swim the channel for example.

Pleeeeeease can we have at least 1?? 🙂

There should be a way to do other challenges. Challenge friends to complete other goals: distance, sleep, heart rate zones, eating, drinking, calorie, exercise times/types, gps-tracked hikes, weight, etc. Currently we can only do step challenges daily, weekday, weekend and there are a handful of virtual hikes. It would be fun and more engaging to have daily, weekday, weekend challenges in these other categories aforementioned with friends and family.

Challenges based on Active Minutes would be great! Maybe even getting more credit based on heart rate. I get bored just walking or running. I want to be able to do heavy bag, speed bag, biking, jump rope, roller blading, martial arts forms, and sparring in these competitions. 😄

Would love to see calories burned as an option instead of steps. Lots of the exercises that I do don't give me "credit" so to speak on the weekly/weekend challenges etc. It would be nice to compete for things other than just steps

Wish there was a sleep app! I never seem to get enough.

Also how about food logging challenges where we see how others are being accountable for keeping calories under a healthy goal.

Hi @Mindaaaa! Great suggestion, thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request.  A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon.

A lot of people have been asking for these updates for years and nothing
has been done. It would be really nice if FitBit finally listened. The
data is already collected, we should have had these capabilities years ago
if anybody spent anytime working on it, so it's pretty apparent you
aren't. Posting in this forum has done nothing, so I'm just going to start
replying to the moderators. Let us know when a team is actually working on
this.

Maybe if we get these comments out more in the public eye it can make a difference, rather than on the company-owned forums. I naively urge everyone to tweet this suggestion with the hashtag #fitbitfeedback.

As a recently engaged couple, my fiance and I would like to have a Fitbit Challenge in which we can track our progress from now until our wedding date, so that we can keep track of our progress as we get fit for our wedding.

It would be nice to have flexibility into how the challenge is scored. For example, we may have multiple aspects of "getting fit" that we want to contribute towards our total "Challenge Score".

Let's say my goal is to lose 30 lbs and her goal is to lose 20 lbs - this could be one aspect of the "Challenge Score", let's call it 25%. Next, we could define our Total Step Count as another 25% of the "Challenge Score". Then, we could say Total Calories Burned makes up the remaining 50% of the "Challenge Score". At the end of the challenge, only one would be crowned a winner. You could call this challenge something like: "Race to the Altar".

Allowing user to add new Challenges like hiking a near by mountain or walking to a pilgrimage will keep the users motivated to walk more. In India, many Indians walk to a pilgrimage spot. If they can add it to their challege, it will help to prepare for the pilgrimage

I believe it’s been “under consideration” for a number of years.
They are more interested in producing new designs, not improving the software.

Agreed, this feed is over 5 years old and not a single improvement to challenges. Think of improvements in technology over FIVE years.

Any comment by fitbit puppets/employees other than "no, not interested" is disingenuous.

I'm researching my next fit watch and what they can do.

I'll enjoy when fitbit is taught in Marketing 101 alongside Nokia.

Can we get a work week hustle that counts calories burned instead of steps?

I find tracking calories burnt if far more imporant. Step count is easily manipulated, whereas calories burnt is a better reflection on user activity.

For example:

Partner - 14500 steps/2283 calories burned

Me - 13,000 steps/ 2959 calories burned

Same when I have a rest day and my girlfriend works out, my steps might be higher but her calories burned is greater

I dont use challenges anymore as they only count steps. Maybe increase this to cover things such as peak heart rate minutes, active minutes and calories burned challenges. The choice is very minimal at the moment

I just read the policy for comments and no new ideas should be brought up to Fitbit for liability concerns. But as I see the idea to have challenges other than counting steps (4 years ago) with the feedback that a lot of consumers want it, why not work on it?

Just in the last 2 months, 5 friends bought a Fitbit so they can compete, be part of that challenges  and be motivated, only to be disappointed at the fact that some can't win because the exercises we do are not just walking at Target. Please strongly consider adding challenges that count active minutes instead of just steps.
