Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

I would also like stuff like most water drank. Most calories burned stuff not just steps. Weekly challenges maybe even hours slept. Anything to encourage proper behaviors

It would be nice to see a challenge for drinking 8 cups of water. It is very difficult to get water in, and I know some of my friends have a similar issue.

I'd like to challenge friends on number of flights walked in a given time period too.

Are there plans to add more challenges?  I would like to see Miles walked / ran as a challenge to compete against my friends with.

I would love to see this as well. I work in IT so I sit the majority of the day. Although I do get up often to walk from one side of the building to the other, my steps are a joke compared to my friends who don't sit all day. I would love to see a calories burned challenge to take work outs into consideration, not just steps.

I have the Charge HR and it tells me how many calories I burn from my steps alone. I would love to see how many calories I burned when in Activity mode or even a Calories burned per Activity challenge.

Great idea.

Challenges based on steps alone are boring (especially when my wife continually beats me)

I would love to have these challenges included as well! Please!  Then it counts more than just steps!

Pls add active minutes and calories burned challenges. You could also try adding some badge challenges spreading over a month or something like that. Makes it more interesting.

Yes I want more than step challenges... Activity time challenge would be good too!

My humble opinion is that the challenges should be customizable. The Loseit ap, for example, let's you set up anything from weight loss, to calories, to steps and everything in between. I'm in a December weight loss challenge that allowed me to set the start and end time. Very user friendly. If folks prefer a step challenge to a calories burned challenge, they just join the one that best suits them. I have even seen two dress size challenges for weddings. Fun! Love my fitbit, they just need to step up their game in the challenges. In the mean time, I'll keep using Loseit for fun and motivating challenges.

I would love to see a daily intake water challenge. Our water intake is one of the most important aspects of our health and one that should be the easiest but is often over looked. Thank you!

I agree! I am into multi-sport and it would be great if steps weren't the only metric for a challenge. It encourages other ways of staying healthy! Thanks Fitbit team!

I also want calorie challenges. I just got a fitbit and my trainer is inviting me and other clients to challenges but there is one client who walks a lot every day. I am not able to walk so much because my left knee becomes painful if I walk too much so this person usually wins the challenges. When I told my trainer I wanted to do calorie challenges she said that would not be fair because heavier people burn more calories but as others have suggested here, Fitbit could make the calorie challenge so it factored in weight/sex etc. Anyway, if the skinny people have to work harder to beat us fat people I don't see any problem with that 😉

I would like to have distance challenges too; since people have different stride lengths if you go for a walk with someone much different in height you could go the same distance and have significantly different number of steps.

Agreed! I play sports that while very taxing, don't register much stepwise. A calorie challenge would be just the thing for my friends and I.

@LucyAP If FitBit is close to implementation, a great release would be in conjunction with World Sleep Day!

I totally love this idea! I used to drink a lot of water but during these days I stopped and a water Challenge can help me to continue drinking water.

I would also like to see some challenges based on something other than steps. My wife is 5'2". I am 5'10". If we go on a walk together, she takes three steps for two of mine. I can't beat her on a step challenge. If the challenge was 'active minutes' I would have a chance...

I participate in the challenges currently available, however, they are limited. For example, I accept a challenge with my daughter. My preferred exceercise is the treadmill, which obviously increases your steps, hers is the gym which most likely increases her calorie burn instead of steps. It would be good, and more fun in a way, if we can challenge each other with other things, like the calories burned for a day, a week (or whatever) or how many active minutes for the period, how many stairs climbed or even how much water consumed (which would be a good one, as we all forget to drink our water)

Hi,

Me and my friends really enjoy the challenges feature, the problem is that with them just being step based we end up just going for runs.
It would be better if we could keep to our balanced fitness regimes which also include spin classes, weights, cycling etc... and still get rewarded for for it in a challenge.

It could be simply implemented, when you set up a challenge it could give the the opinion to base the challenge on steps or active minutes.

Thanks,
Dan
