What is the holdup here? I share the sentiments from many fitbit-citibank users here in that i would rather return my fitbit for an apple watch instead. The fitbit pay was one of the key reasons for me investing in this brand and I don't want to jump through hoops to get a virtual card like others who have managed to work around this limitation! This is 2020 jesus.
@adrawer and @jasonb1024 Fitbit can't add any bank unless that institution wants to join the program. You, as Citibank customers, need to contact them and express your wishes for them to allow Fitbit to use their card service. You need to help Fitbit.
I just purchased the Versa3 looking forward to using fitbit pay. However now realise fitbit pay does not support cards in Australia from ING nor Citibank. I would have thought Citibank at least would have been supported given it's global nature.
Hi @Aussiechick, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to see Citibank credit support for Fitbit Pay. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can also vote for this other suggestion: ING bank for Australia Fitbit pay.I hope to see you around.
I contacted Citi support via chat, which was, unsurprisingly, not helpful. Next step: I'll be figuring out how to fax (welcome back to 1990) their customer service department, as I was advised that would likely lead to individual followup.
I also will be contacting Costco corporate, as in my case (and in others' who have posted on this thread) this is specifically related to their cobranded card, and thus have some stake in the matter. Costco seems to have no aversion to selling lots of Fitbit devices, so this lack of cooperation from Citi doesn't seem to be in Costco's best interests on the surface.
I encourage Costco customers to contact Member Services via Chat at https://customerservice.costcobusinessdelivery.com/app/chat/chat_launch and ask them to forward this request (of adding Citi credit cards to Fitbit Pay) over to their Coporate Office. They will pass it along for you!
Hi @Ski-Zone-1, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to see support for Citibank credit on Fitbit Pay. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". I hope to see you around.
I agree. Fitbit support of Citi Bank is crucial. We've been waiting 4 years, and without change, this inability is THE reason I've decided to switch brands when I replace my watch.
Wow...I debated FitBit vs TicWatch for quite a while and finally convinced myself that FitBit Sense has all the features I needed from the TicWatch, and finally got the Sense a few weeks ago. I now find on trying to add my Citi (Costco) Visa card that it's a no go. Searching, I learn that this has been an open topic for 4 years so far...with no indication that this is any closer to resolution.
For a feature like FitBit Pay to have any value whatsoever, it should work with the cards that users have...and I hope I don't have to point out that Citi, and the Citi Visa card (and even the co-branded Costco version) represent an enormous cross section of users. It's frankly inconceivable to me that a Citi Visa card can't be used with FitBit Pay.
Is there ANY reason at all to think this situation might change anytime soon?
I agree that it would be a nice feature. But I also think that we will have a lot better luck getting Citibank added by contacting the bank, and not FitBit. The bank is the ones to decide if they will accept it or not. My main bank let me add a credit card from them, but not my debit card. It's not FitBit's fault, but the bank.
@MuttJunior - you might be right. But if you'll search this topic across the forum, you'll see that customers have been asking this question for four years. FitBit Pay supports numerous cards...and Citi cards are on numerous platforms including Google Pay. We haven't had a definitive answer from FitBit on this topic in four years. The ONLY answers have been a generic adminition to "contact your bank...". I see no indication at all that anyone replying to these questions -- in four years -- actually has specific knowledge of any interactions between FitBit and Citi. The answers are always generic and devoid of specific info. FitBit's responses here give the definite impression that they simply don't care, which I find disappointing.
The situation *might* be Citi's fault...but unless you have some inside info about any interactions between FitBit and Citi, I suggest that this can't be more than speculation.
BTW: I have posted the request on Citi's Facebook page. I'll curious to see what kind of response I get there.
I have posted this issue many years ago and on my 3rd fitbit watch already. It seems nothing much is being done so am ready now to move soon to a galaxy watch that has caught up with fitbit in terms of functionalities plus the availability of samsung and google pay which accepts all cards.
This situation is especially ludicrouos now, considering that Google Pay has worked with Citi cards for a long time. Per Citi's own site:
"All Citi branded consumer credit and debit cards issued in the US are eligible for Google Pay, except for ATM cards, American Express® cards, and Citi® / AAdvantage® cards"
It would seem only a slight stretch to leverage the contacts, internal channels, etc. and expand this relationship to cover FitBit Pay as well.
Citi has numerous internal divisions that deal with cards issued for the government, military, schools, and a huge division for consumer banking. Citi is the single largest issuer of credit cards in the US -- managing hundreds of millions of accounts. FitBit has over 30 million customers. With all of this considered, it still amazes me that after four years it still seems that nobody at either firm will actually take ownership of the issue and communicate with customers beyond issuing a generic answer devoid of details about this specific topic.
I find it interesting that both Citibank and Discover haven't allowed Fitbit Pay yet. i see posts as far back as late 2017/early 2018, so this has been over 3 years now. And Fitbit just keeps saying, "It's all set up - they just have to allow us". What Fitbit is neglecting to mention is that Fitbit gets a small fee for every transaction that is processed via Fitbit Pay. I'm guessing Citi and Discover are finding the fee Fitbit wants too high for the amount of traffic they expect allowing Fitbit in will generate. Having worked with these banks for years, things are generally, "their way, or the highway." If I was going to bet on this, I suspect Fitbit isn't accepting whatever cut the bank is offering, and neither party will budge. What we're left with is a product that doesn't work with two of the largest card issuers in the USA. Way to go Fitbit.
The Citi (Costco) card is the only card I use, too and I wish I had checked what cards were able to be sync'd because had I known Citi isn't one, I wouldn't have purchased the Charge 5 . Please add Citi cards to the list.
I use Costco Citi card as a primary card for my shopping. Costco being a big retail shop in USA partnerships with Citi bank, which is a familiar bank having its presence globally is not being considered on the Fitbit pay is really bothering to use any Fitbit device. This limits the ability to utilize the NFC payment feature overall to anyone who uses this card with Fitbit pay in USA is really strange. I wouldn't have considered buying a Fitbit device if I have known this before buying.
I just received a new Citi Mastercard, and found this after realizing my surprise that even after many years of being talked about here, Citi and Fitbit as 2 heavyweights in their respective markets still can't get along.
Following the overwhelming advice shared above, I did contact Citi earlier this evening - and this was their response:
At this time, Citi has not made any plans to include Fitbit Pay as one of our digital wallet options. I will be happy to forward your feedback regarding your interest in adding this as a payment option. You will certainly see it advertised if and when it does become available. Thanks for reaching out and have a wonderful night!
Combined with some other customer service challenges with Citi with the new card here this evening, I'm planning to close it and apply for a competitor's card instead. I'm referencing this thread by URL in my ongoing conversations with Citi, so hopefully someone still sees this and pays attention to it at some point.
Way to go Ziesemer, voting with your wallet is certainly a way to get Citi's attention that this lack of support for FitbitPay needs looked into.
Unfortunately, like me, many people are "staying in droves", just hoping Citi changes their mind. If more of us were willing to tell Citi that we will take our business elsewhere in response to the lack of support, they might actually do something.
On another note, anyone else think it is weird that they are years into Google ownership of Fitbit, and we are still talking about this instead of asking why their devices have not been switched to GooglePay, and to let FitbitPay "go away" as a product?
