Control music for other apps on Charge 3 and Charge 4

I'm guessing I mis-read the features for the Charge 3, but I thought music control was among the upgrades from the Charge 2.  Is this something that is or will be added as an App or feature in the NEAR future?  I was holding off on the purchase strictly for music control feature.

I actually purchased a $30 non-brand name fitness tracker while waiting for the release of the Charge 3 and even that had the music control feature.  It makes changing songs while running so much easier! Please tell me I'm wrong and there is a way of controlling music from the tracker!

I will also add my vote for music control. Controlling Spotify would be excellent. I must admit I also thought that the charge 3 could already do it. If it can’t, why did it ask for permission to access my Apple Music during setup? In my iPhone settings I can also adjust this access but that seems pointless if there is no way to control it from the watch. Am I missing something?

Hi everyone thanks for sharing this suggestion. This is being discussed although I do not have a firm commitment or timeline at the moment. Do continue to vote for this feature suggestion whilst it’s under consideration. Please note that if something is under consideration and chosen for development, it can be a while until it's released or until I have any news to share. Please watch this space for any updates! Thanks for your patience.

That’s a fair point Benrg13, if there is no music control why does the Fitbit app ask for permission to access Apple Music & media?  It’s in the iPhone settings. Seems a bit pointless unless you need it doesn’t it? Could anyone clarify why Fitbit needs access to it, if it doesn’t use it?

How long are these suggestions usually discussed for LizFitbit, been 3 months since this topic was raised. Seems like it’s a feature people want, is it even possible to add this feature to the band?

+1

No special app integrations needed, just the basic controls that most every Bluetooth device with sound has:

Previous, Play/pause, Next

I would like these accessible as gestures, but would be okay with an "app" that you have to select from the menu. I assume the limitations of only one "app" running at a time, so that would be less ideal than gestures that were always available, but I'd rather have the capability to control music if I'm only listening to music over not being able to control it ever from my brand new Charge 3.

I agree that a music control on the Fitbit charge 3 would be very helpful. I often run with my phone strapped to my arm, and I have to stop to get to the phone settings to skip a song or adjust the volume. It seems like this could be an easy app to add to Fitbit screen.  My son’s Garmin Vivosmart has it. I assumed the Charge 3 would have it since it is a newer and more expensive watch. I am debating returning it because it does not have this feature, although I really like the look of the Charge 3, and the other features. Any chance of adding this??

Fairly unhappy with myself for clearly misreading information on the Charge 3. I would not have purchased it if I had realized it did not have the capability to store music. I was also looking forward to not having to run with my phone. Hoping this feature is added in the near future.

I have $200 burning a hole in my pocket. I cant believe this doesn't at least have the ability to control music playing on your phone. I have been looking for something to control the music while I am in the shower listening to music being casted to my bathroom speakers. Not to mention just jogging walking around listening to music. I had this ability on an a 4+year old fitbit. No extra hardware, no extra cost, this a clear brain fade by Fitbit.

I too thought the Charge 3 had music controls but at my first gym visit yesterday discovered it didn't. Really disappointed as I "upgraded" from a Garmin that did - general android player and Amazon music controls operated well from the device. As the post with the mock up showed all we need is a play, track forward, track back screen.  PLEASE add it as an update asap 🙂

Please add the Music feature! I was unaware that this did not have it or I would not have asked for it for my Birthday!

This feature is much needed.

Why does the Charge 3 not have it when earlier Fitbit devices did? Not to mention that many alternative devices that cost a third of the Charge 3 also include this feature. Fitbit, please add music control ASAP.

Just to make people aware, the music feature has been added (at least for android) in a recent update. Music controls show up as a notification (swipe down on the charge 3) and so far works with spotify, google play music, youtube music, and google podcasts. Not sure about apple yet.

Thanks for the info. It is not available for Apple yet.

Well, definitely a step in the right direction!

Maybe even add Amazon Music support if possible? Most of my music library is in Amazon Music, not Spotify or Apple Music.

Please have this in your short-term consideration. One of my fav features of a smartband/watch is to be able to control the music from -in my case- Spotify without having to take out my phone. Of course I'm not asking for full music control such as creating a playlist from the Charge 3, but to be able to play/pause and to go to the next/previous song.

Thank you!

I am a bit confused...has music control been added and ready to use or not? Can't find it on mine and can't see an update available.

There have been recent comments saying it's available on android (I have a Samsung galaxy 😎 and I was so excited as thought it had been added.

Any advice/ thoughts?

Nixie247, basically from what I know is that all devices cannot connect to the Fitbit charge 3 to play/control music at all this is due to the fact that this feature does not actually exist. Yet. This is on both the IPhone and Android.

Nixie247, Zanderules,

I have an LG V30 and I can control music through the notification menu (swipe down from home) on the Charge 3. If I play music on spotify, pandora, or youtube music (these are the three I've tested), I can swipe down to see a notification appears on my Charge 3 showing the song that is playing. From this notification I can save to playlist, skip, go back or clear the notification (you won't be able to control your music if you do this).

In order to use this, open the app and go to the device settings. Then go to Notifications (under general), and go to app notifications. Here you'll need to check Spotify and whatever other music apps you want to use. Now when you are playing a song over bluetooth speakers you should get the notification (sometimes I've had to force sync the device before it shows up). It's not a very elegant implementation but it is there.

Once again, afaik, this is only available on android.

RomanianJedi, thankyou for that information great to see that Fitbit doesn’t check things properly before actually realising their product (no offence to Fitbit). But basically aside from trying to do it the way RomanianJedi has done it, there isn’t any way for us iPhone users to access this feature.

For some reason I assumed this feature was already included and spent time looking online on how to use the music controls feature until I came across this page. Definitely would love to see this feature in a future update, hopefully soon!

I would love to be able to control my music on my Fitbit Charge 3. I would also like a more variety of watch faces available on the charge 3. Thank you!
