In fact, it wouldn't be too hard to have it display both ways. When it's been less than (e.g.) a half hour since last sync, say it that way (e.g., "last sync 23 minutes ago") because it would be true. (but only if the local JavaScript kept checking on the current time via the host browser, in case it had been asleep for a while)
Then, when more than some time threshold (e.g. a half hour) has passed, change the message to instead show the last time sync'd.
That way, it would be friendly, and also always accurate.
The idea is that it would never be displaying something totally inaccurate, as it can easily do now.
