Decide if you want to delete recent/frequent food entries

1. You can add custom food entries which you can delete via the web interface - please allow deletion of these foods on the apps as well.

2. When you add foods to your recent/frequent list you cannot delete them anymore and so the list just grows and grows. Please let us delete these entries in the apps.

I have had my Sense for 5 weeks.  And I love the watch - excellent piece of engineering.  And most of the apps (on Android - can't speak for IOS) seem to work ok.  But the food app is exasperating.  Besides the broken "Recent and Frequent" lists making it much harder to enter our intake than it should and the bar graphs being incorrect much of time, the data that we diligently enter is just not processed correctly (or maybe just not in a timely manner) making the "Budget" which otherwise would be a very useful tool, well, um, useless!

This is what I ate today (notice the Budget's Cal in):

:tmp.XAOr1ce8vU.pngIntake, July 1st, 2022Intake, July 1st, 2022

This is what the website "Backend" reports (notice only one item from breakfast has been processed which is why the "Budget" thinks I have only had 275 calories):

So I get the impression (8 years "under review" should be a clue) that this is really not the right forum for what are obviously "Bug Reports" and not "Suggestions".  Perhaps, Moderator, you can direct me to a more receptive, engineering oriented ear.

It looks like Fitbit users have been asking for the ability to delete foods from our frequent/recent food lists since 2014.  When do popular suggestions actually get developer's attention? I think 8 years is the answer and that's where we are now, so how about putting it on the to-do list 👍😊

I would like to reset/ delete the items in my frequent, recent, & customs list in the log food tile. I've entered so much that they have gotten cluttered & too long to scroll & find repeat items. I would like the ability to clean those out & start fresh as my preferences & goals change which also changes my current go to items.

Hi @vdove, thanks for taking the time to share this suggestion about having the option to delete recent/frequent food entries. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration".

I hope to see you around.

Thank you for the "under consideration" notification, but it really seems
just a courteous nod. People have been asking for at least 8 years. WTF is
taking so long?

Very truly yours,

I agree with the hundreds of others to fix the delete recent and or frequent food list. It is time for Fitbit to get it done, because of them being asked back in 2015!!!!!!! Seems like they like taking all this money in on Fitbit’s they have the resources to do it…….  It is now 2022!!!!!!!

Please provide a way to delete items from the Food List.  I have only started using this feature and am already annoyed that I cannot delete items from my food list.  Some I entered by accident, some I no longer want, but I can't delete and the list just gets longer! Please make this feature available in the app.

Fitbit, this is not a FEATURE to weigh up and consider, this is existing functionality that doesn't work properly that you should be addressing. If the frequent and recent food lists are garbage... which they are (foods from years ago, foods I've only eaten once persist, not arranged in any logical order etc) then it is poor functionality not providing the service specified and it shouldn't rely on frustrated users to upvote it as a suggestion for you to get on it.  My experience is that you care extremely little for the software and for the dumb things it does when people who have bought a device need to be able to use it for the purposes of getting or staying fit. Once that money for the device is in your pockets you're just not bothered.

Under consideration since August 2019 😀 I hope the consideration has been well-considered!

For those struggling with the issues described throughout this thread, try logging out and closing the application and then logging back in. On Android, it seems that the app just outright never syncs with the web app (such as if you have deleted custom foods through the Fitbit Web UI). Once I logged out, closed the app, and logged back in on the mobile app- all of my issues with the Frequent, Recent and Custom tabs went away.

My feedback is that when I enter an eaten item into my food log and the list of "recent" and "frequent" foods are not accurate--- I eat the same foods over and over again and some foods I can easily find right in my recent and frequent, but then I'm also looking through hundreds of items that I literally only logged once or twice months and months ago. I found some suggestion about clearing app data and cache, but that is not helpful enough. It deleted a lot of foods that I do want in my list. I want an option to delete items that remain in recent or frequent but I don't eat often or at all.

This is a very needed suggestion and I had to go through a million steps to find this board so I could add my two cents and I get here to find out this suggestion was made over EIGHT years ago and it is marked as under consideration....what are you waiting for?! Please do this...

I know! 🤣 My story is exactly the same as yours.

"Under consideration" is self-serving for Fitbit’s app developers. It's
non-committal. It's annoying.

How difficult could it be? Sheesh!

I can't believe that this has been an issue for literally well over 5 years and has still not been addressed. It takes an inordinate amount of time to scroll through my lists to select the appropriate foods, even if it's something I just ate perhaps 3 days ago. I don't even want to ponder the amount of time I've wasted doing this.

Anyone cite/recall a similar request that was submitted in this, or like Fitbit forum, that was actually processed into the change/improvement, that requested?

8 years and counting. Why came we not delete frequent or recent foods but only custom foods. No sense. Also not happy with challenges being deleted. You are going in the wrong direction Fitbit.

Absolutely, it drives me crazy to scroll past foods I literally entered once 3 years ago to find things I've eaten regularly in the past month! There seems to be a short list that is truly recent (as in eaten today or yesterday) followed by an almost perverse assortment of nonsense! If you can't fix this at least make the frequent list longer so I don't need to use recent so often.

I beg of you! 🙏

The issues with the "Frequent" and "Recent" Foods are simply inexcusable.  The lists don't work correctly, and never have.  Then there's the food lists themselves that often have multiple redundant listings. And...what's with all of the baby food listings?  If you type in searches for foods like 'carrots', very often the first listings are for jarred baby food, which quite frankly shouldn't be in the database to start with.  Unreal.

I HAVE ABSOLUTE NO IDEA WHY THESE ARE FORWARDED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM I COMPLAINED ABOUT YEARS AGO. NO ONE HAS DONE ANYTHING ABOUT OUR COMPLAINTS

yes this would be helpful.

As many of the entries are wildly incorrect when it comes to nutrients and minerals and they cannot be edited to correct this (eg egg says its more than 100 percent of iron rdi)  it would be an improvement to at least be able to delete them. If we want the correct info the only way is to check every entry we use and then create a custom food with the correct information. So deleting those no longer needed would be a help . (though the fact that food micronutrients is not correct after all these years is ridiculous

This thread is over 9 years old. It's very unlikely that deleting recent / frequent foods will ever get added. I'm fairly convinced there are no developers that even work on this application anymore. Something as simple as sorting by alphabetical order is one of the easier topics in a Software Engineering 101 class in high school, but they can't be bothered to add even basic functionality like that. So adding a delete feature is going to be way too much work, might as well forget it.

@LizFitbitIs there any point to leaving this thread open?

I almost dropped the app when they canceled the challenges I thought that was horrible. I found it very motivational to do challenges with friends. Not being able to delete food is some thing I think I could figure out if I could hack into the program.

Yes, definitely need the ability to delete items from the 'recent' and 'frequent' food lists as the lists become overly long and end up with duplicate and incorrect items.  Also need the option to alphabetize as it becomes hare to find what you're looking for after a while when the list gets too long.
