Dynamic retrieval and display of all daily nutrition values

Here is an opportunity for Fitbit project managers and developers to provide a greatly needed service to their device users, many of which would appreciate Fitbit’s assistance in managing their health.

Many of the users of Fitbit devices have real health issues and have to monitor different elements of their nutritional intake throughout the day. Other users have also voiced their desire to have a dynamically viewable recap of just where they stand at any point in the day.

Individuals with heart issues quite often need to be aware of their sodium intake or risk heart failure. And if truth be told, everyone else should be a little more aware of their sodium intake, as well.

Diabetics and pre-Diabetics need to keep abreast of their sugar intake throughout the day, not just at the day end. And for anyone wanting to lose a little, or even a lot, of weight should be watching their sugar intake, because what sugar cannot be used by muscles gets stored as fat.

Many people are literally afraid to eat out with friends or family sometimes because they are not positive about their current daily intake of a particular nutrient. Many spur-of-the-moment social opportunities are lost because they don’t know their current sodium or sugar totals for the day.

Why not, from the food log page of the Fitbit app have the Macronutrients icon be a touchable hotspot that would display this:

Daily Totals.png

The data in the graphic represents my actual intake on 1/19/2018 with the exception of vitamin and other base elements, but all of the information is available for quick retrieval from the Fitbit servers. And to quote Fitbit, “Your data belongs to you!”

I personally would be quite happy if that is all that was done, and as a first release it would be great. But it would be totally feasible to incorporate other requests for allowing the entry of target values for many of the nutrients shown in the label above. Values such as Calories, Carbs, Protein and Sodium. A new column next to “% Daily Value” called “Your Target” or just “Target” could be added.

Thank you Fitbit for having the Custom Foods creation capability that allowed be to create a food that actually represents my booked food totals for 1/19/2018.

I agree! I appreciate how these are totaled up in the online dashboard, but I need the feature most when I'm out and about, trying to figure out how much fiber I've had that day. I know my parents would really appreciate the sodium display as well.

Ideally, you could keep the glyph with the % of carb, protein, and fat and add the gram text display available on the online version. I know many people trying not to go over a certain mg of sodium, or trying to go over a certain g of protein.

I would love to see this implemented. I was very, very unhappy a few minutes ago when I realized I could no longer access this info through the dashboard.  It was bad enough to have to look in the computer vs phone app, but now it’s gone altogether.  Bad move.

Can we please restore the ability to see grams of macros on website as well as the ability to enter future date food??? WHY did you take that away? It is key to those that track macros. The web logging feature is useless without this.

Add my voice to this request.   It’s a pain to have to go to Fitbit.com to get this info, and they seem to be messing with food logging there which removed that information for awhile.

I recently have had my cholesterol levels checked and I'm back at high again. So I need to monitor it and get a recheck in 2 months. Moving forward, I would like to track it. Currently I use MyFitnesspal but they charge for this feature so I thought maybe Fitbit has this feature on their food tracking. The tracking on the app is nice but sadly it doesn't have an option to track the cholesterol. For those like me that are high or borderline, would need to have this tracked or shown how much has been consumed for the day. Hopefully this is something we can get added to the app/site.

Yes! The fact that I can't track sugar is the reason I haven't upgraded in a few years.  I got an Apple Watch instead and use a diff app.  I only saw this now BBC I was just checking to see if FitBit had added the ability to track sugar now since I want a new tracker soon.

i would come back to FitBit if this was available.

Yes this is badly needed. My wife and I used to use a program called Fitday that provided exactly what is being discussed above.

Yes, this seems like an obvious idea. Looking at the dash, my (reasonably) healthy brunch of mackerel, potatoes and steamed spinach might as well be a visit to McD's. We know some fats are good for us, let's have a colour coding scheme to represent that.

Thanks!

I'd also like to be able to see the fiber count on the Android app. I track my fiber intake for health reasons and it would be very helpful to be able to track it on my phone rather than on a computer.

Sodium may be a more/or at least as important an element  than those shonw.

The macro wheel is a nice addition in the app, but it’s very peculiar that we can get the percentage of our macros, but the actual cunsumption of how many grams is not listed. I would think that it would be a given, being listed near the wheel, of after clicking on the wheel.

This is essential for somebody doing the popular Ketogenic diet, like I’m doing.

Another feature regarding macros should be: amount of macros listed on the serving sizes. Not just the serving size but whatever amount I listed as my serving.

For example: A 4oz of chicken is 10g of protein, if I lost that I ate 8oz of chicken, it should show me that I ate 20g of protein.

Hi @GabrielsGalaxy, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option on the Fitbit App. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has a lot of votes. As the more votes and comments an idea has the more visibility and momentum it gains.

See you around.

I would like for the app to list the amount of sodium consumed per meal, and show a total consumed for the day. I would also like to be able to set a goal for the total amount of sodium to consume each day.

Reason: Tracking the amount of sodium consumed per meal, and per day is essential for a cardiac patients who have strict limitations for the amount of sodium they can consume per meal, per day. My current limitations are 700 mg per meal, but not to consume more than 2100 mg per day. Every mg of sodium must be counted. While you do provide the information online, where the need is for this consumer is in the app, and I would like my Fitbit to tell me how I am doing on my goal of consuming or limiting my consumption of sodium. I also need to be able to quickly look up the amount of sodium in food and make a decision as to weather or not I have enough room to eat something based on the amount of sodium in the food item. There are numerous food items which appear on the surface to be healthy, but for an individual who must limit their sodium intake these items become very unhealthy. eggs, bread, lunch meat, salad dressing, the majority of pre packaged foods, frozen vegetables can become unhealthy if during the packaging process they add sodium.  Unfortunately for most frozen vegetables during the packaging process sodium is added.

I hope you will consider tracking sodium and making this information more readily available to your customers who need this information. After logging into the website showed me you have the info already, your just not providing the information where the consumer needs it, on the app/ on their fitbits.....

It would be great to be able to see the amount of micronutrients from each meal along with the total for the day.  It would make it easier for someone to look back and get a better idea of exactly what to change if they're trying to track protein vs carbs.

Hey @MoonshineAmanda! Nice suggestion, thanks for sharing. We look forward to hearing what other community members think about the possibility to see the amount of micronutrients from each meal along with the total for the day.

This is definitely needed. It's just totalling the data you've already logged within the app/interface.

I too would like to see us be able to import the Cronometer food data into FitBit. Their database of Macro and Micro nutrients is awsome. Their implementation of creating a new food recipe is straight forward and more intuitive to me.

My reasons are similar. I have Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease and on my Neurosurgeon's recommendation I am following the Low Carb-High Fat Ketogenic diet. I track the grams of carb., fiber and fat that i consume. Having these numbers visible is important to my success.

Most of the other features on my Charge 2 are terrific. Great product!

NEED THIS so I can dump the MFP app off my phone.  I hate having to switch between the two.

I would love to see that also. Here is what I put in a different post:

I would also love to see the Sodium totals in the app since I am struggling with high BP and Diastolic Congestive Heart Failure. Otherewise I have to enter the information into my app and then check the website for the Sodium totals. Why not make the little Nutrition circle in the app tapable so it shows all nutrients?

Thanks.

Yes please, in the App. I very seldom use the website.

This is a fantastic enhancement.  It would also be great if you could turn on the option to track my cholesterol to the suggested average, or my sugar intake to the suggested average, etc.  Like you have on the calorie tracker.

I’d like to be able to look at my accumulative daily nutrition facts. I track my saturated fat intake and this would be a useful way of seeing my consumption or remaining buffer.

I think tracking sugar and sat fat are very important stats for any Food Log.

I hope this will be added to the Food Log, ASAP!

100% agree!  I have having so many different apps, I want to be able to track all my health/fitness/nutrition in one app.  Please add micronutrient tracking!

For me, I'm trying to reduce my sugar intake, as well as see how much fiber I'm getting.
