Edit Time of Daily Reset of Stats / Add Nightshift

Hi, It would be great if users could change the daily reset of stats to a different hour. We night owls who go sleep late after midnight now have to calculate the differences in our heads and that's not ideal. Thanks!

I would really like to request if this feature can be implemented as soon as possible. This only looks like a software based solution so i don't understand why its taking the developers more than 3 years to even come up with something to tackle this issue.

Please let us specify a reset-time whether on a midnight (Default settings) or a specific hour of a day in the settings functions on the website and let it sync to the device. It sounds pretty simple yet nothing has been done yet unless the reset time is hard-coded in the device (i doubt it). Can any devs comment on this issue at all?

Personally what I would like most is communication from Fitbit on the
status of this issue. Is this something you're thinking about? Working on
a solution for? Can't design for for reasons we don't know? Etc.

I know from experience in the software world that it's very easy to get
caught up in the notion that "I don't have anything to say so I'll not say
anything" and when you're talking about a product with this big a userbase
that's really not okay.

Fitbit: Tell us! Are you working on this?

Lots of us work nights. Please make it so we can set the time at which a new day begins. At midnight, I still have several waking hours left!

Just adding my name to the (long)list of other users who would like to see an update to add this feature.  I'm usually walking out at 1AM and thus it counts those steps towards the next days goals (instead of "todays").  Seems like this should be an easy firmare update.

I work 12hr overnight shifts and a number of ny coworker who also use fitbit agree its biggest flaw is not being able set to hours. Also you cant even enter your food to previous day after midnight.

I would love the option to change the reset time from midnight to any time. I am a shift worker, not getting to sleep until 3am most mornings. The midnight reset doesn't account properly for 10k steps for my "day". Thank you!

Have been a fitbit fan for three years and went from the Zip to the Surge. Absolutely love the Surge, but am very frustrated because, as a writer, I sometimes get in those last steps close to midnight or later. I would love a Dashboard feature that would allow all me to choose a tracking period of 12:30 am to 12:30 am or something similar. Drives me nuts when it's 11:57 and I have two thousand steps to my goal. Changing from 24 hours to 12 won't help. Would like full control over stepping period. Thanks!

As I see this suggestion was made almost 8 months ago. I was wondering if any progress from fitbit has been made on this issue? I would really benefit from an upgrade such as this as I'm sure plenty of other users would too.  Thanks fitbit,

I am positive that I am not the only one out there with this situation... eg Third Shift folks. I wake up at 9 or 10am and dont head to bed until 1am. I hit 9500 steps at 11:59 and have no hope of reaching goal before the "Day" resets. If I were to be working third shift this would make the tracker completely unuseable. It seems that this is a simple software awitch of, Normal, custom, or awake to sleep with sleep being over a defined time.

Please consider this for the greater good of the device. It is an easy fix and 1000 percent necessary.

I am a permanent night shift worker and would love the ability to choose what time my stats reset each day as at middnight I am still at work!
For eg I would like mine to reset each day at 6am. This would work for me on the days I work night shift and the other days I don't. Either way at 6am I would always be asleep so this would be a far more accurate account of my activity than resetting at midnight in the middle of my shift/day.
This seems to be a massive oversight as not everyone works 9-5 type jobs!
Can this be looked at?

Defiantly should be able to set what time you go to sleep and stats restart then. My husband works nights but weekends he is up during the day. So a simple solution would be able to select awake time and sleep time. Seems easy enough to accommodate ? I really hope Fitbit makes a change for this because there are many night shift workers out there, or even second shifters for that matter that would be up past midnight in the same "day" so it seems really narrow minded to assume every ones lifestyle is lived on a first shift time table. 😕

I'm often up past midnight. I would like to be able to enter when my day starts and ends. For example 2 am.

So really, we can't change the reset time? Is this some sort of bad joke? Since I am not a parent or a small child I do not go to sleep before midnight. There really has to be a way to change this. It is such an incredibly simple and exceedingly important option, this really needs to be addressed asap.

I completely agree with this idea, gym time for me most days becomes split between 2 days. Anyone that works nights or any other weird scheduling would love a feature to change the day start times.

This seems to be kind of a huge oversight on the part of fitbit. I have asked several friends of mine with extensive knowledge of coding and electronics and all seem to agree it would be a minimul change to the code and would be a relatively easy fix. #nightcrewneedsfittoo

^ Agreed - my fiance is a programmer and states it really shouldn't be difficult to implement.  Come on, Fitbit!!!

I would love to be able to change the reset time on my fitbit WITHOUT changing my time zones. I am a night shifter and the automatic reset at midnight is only about 5 hours into my day!!! Please make this is an update!!

I work 2nd shift. So my day runs from 10am-2am. I know the data for each day changes at midnight, but I would like to adjust that since my hours are different. Anyone else work a different shift, than 1st? I was frustrated yesterday because I got my 10000 steps, but 900 were after midnight, so I didn't get credit for a 10000 step goal.

I am a nurse who works night shift, I usually work 3 days on a night shift schedule starting my "day" waking up around 5pm and coming home to sleep around 8am the next day. However on my days off I try to do a day shift schedule for my personal life. It would be totally useful for Fitbit to allow users to adjust their reset time. I love the idea of it resting when we put it into sleep mode and take it off of sleep mode. This would allow everyone the maximum benefit of your product. My Fitbit flex which was around 80 bucks is generally useless to me if I can't accurately chart my "day" to conform around my schedule.. Food for thought. Fitbit. It certainly seems like enough of us are in need of the update to accommodate our lives.. Remember customers are always right! Help us get the most out of your product and we will be happy enough to recommend it to our friends!

This seems like such a simple fix. Why is there still no way to change what time your day ends and begins? All of us night shifters are getting screwed here, and without being about to choose when our day ends - say, 4am instead of midnight - our bits are basically useless.

Sooooo why is this not a thing? Is there any progress on making it a thing? I for one will be tossing my bit in the garbage if this isn't fixed soon.

We all get the same 24 hours in a day.... it doesn't really matter if you take your steps at 4a or 4p. The only way I could see this being important is for a challenge that cuts off before your most active time.

I personally like the competition with my brother in law, who works nights, he syncs when he leaves work at the time I'm usually waking up.  It motivates me to get more steps/activity in during the day, knowing he's coming for me while I sleep the next night.

It does make a difference though. My "day", the 24 hours I want to count as one day, is from about 11am-4am. Fitbit says my day ends at 12, then counts all my other steps from 12-4am as on a separate day. That means I have to manually note how many steps I'm at by midnight, then all my steps until 4am and add those together to get one day. If that makes sense...?

Anyway it's a huge pain and they need to fix it. This is a huge problem for so many people, you'd think they would get on it asap. Fitbits really are basically useless when you have to manually do all these calculations and split them between days with the overlap. Ridiculous.

Perspective is everything. Smiley Happy   A better way to look at this may be to understand most people have the same number of hours in a day to perform their daily routine so the steps they get from Midnight to Midnight on one calendar day still show their activity in a 24 hour period.

Your perception appears to be that Fitbit isn't accurately counting the steps in your day.  However, by the hours in day it is accurately recording them.

Are you having difficulty with this concept because you are not equally active everyday?

For Example:

You indicated your day is from 11am - 4am so If in that time your normal step count is 10,000 may be reporting (as an example) 6,000 before midnight and 4,000 after midnight.  However if you consistently do this the total for the calendar day/24 hour period will still be accurate.

Day1 11am - midnight 6,000

Day2 Midnight - 4am 4,000 PLUS 11am - midnight 6,000 = 10,000

Day3 Midnight - 4am 4,000 PLUS 11am - midnight 6,000 = 10,000

Day4 Midnight - 4am 4,000 PLUS 11am - midnight 6,000 = 10,000

Day5 Midnight - 4am 4,000 PLUS 11am - midnight 6,000 = 10,000

Day6 Midnight - 4am 4,000 PLUS 11am - midnight 6,000 = 10,000

Day7 Midnight - 4am 4,000 PLUS 11am - midnight 6,000 = 10,000

So other than the very first day you started using the FITBIT your overall steps are counted each day.

Good Luck with your request!

Uh. I'm not "having difficulty with this concept" at all. It's not a matter of me understanding anything, it's a matter of I would like my "day" to consist of the 24 hours I consider my active day - NOT midnight to midnight. It should not be a difficult problem to understand or solve and I find it ridiculous that it hasn't been integrated yet. Looking at the forums, tons of people have been asking for this feature for a long time. So, why is it not a thing?!

It is mainly an issue because I also sync my bit with MFP for calorie logging, with the goal of weight loss, and since I CAN adjust the "day" on MFP but CANNOT on fitbit, it throws my daily caloric input/output out of whack and complicates my weight loss goals. Example: one of my "days" spans both March 30th and 31st according to fitbit. If I eat dinner at 1am the night of the 30th, as I often do, I can adjust MFP to consider it still the 30th when I ate those calories. But fitbit will consider it the 31st already and will not add those calories I burn until I get off work at 4am to my caloric burn for the 30th. Then I'm left with more calories consumed on the 30th and an inaccurate caloric output for both the 30th (too low) and the 31st (too high). My schedule also basically reverses between the weekends and weekdays, so it's even worse. Everything would be fixed for so many people if they would just allow us to tweak our day start times.

If I was using fitbit strictly as a step counter, fine, I could deal with it. But it severely screws up my data when logging in conjunction with MFP, and that makes it almost useless because I am stuck doing a lot of manual calculations or guesswork at the end of the - MY - day.

I'm a big Fitbit fan. Two year customer here. Whoop whoop! My issue is, I work overnight in a hospital. So my hours vary from everyone else's. I sleep when everyone is gearing up and I'm gearing up when everyone is winding down. Some of the features are a little frustrating to set to my lifestyle. The straw that broke the camels back is, 250+ steps an hour. I love the idea. Would love to utilize the features. It just won't let me set it to overnight hours. 10pm-10am or 9pm-9am or even 7pm-7am. I type it in and I can't press ok to confirm. What up with that? Plus stuff like workweek hustle and weekend warrior etc. are sun up to sundown features. What about the people that do their "two steppin" at night? Plus me meals are off. I was thinking about changing my timezone but that'll throw my time out of wack. It's just frustrating. What to do. What to do.
