Geocaching app

Any geocachers out there?  

 

For those that don't know, geocaching is a fun sport of "hide and seek" where users have little boxes or "caches" usually containing trinkets and a logbook placed in unique locations outdoors.  It's a great excuse to get outdoors and get walking and exploring (or evening boating or snorkeling, etc.)

 

There should be an app to download local geocaches to the Ionic, or to interface with Geocaching(dot)com, so that users don't need to haul a phone or standalone GPS unit to go run/walk/hike to find a cache.

I do Letterboxing which is similar to Geocaching.  Keep thinking I might start geocaching as well. A geocaching app would be great! It's a fun way to get exercise.

The app would be very handy to have on the ionic especially for the canoeing caches most standalone gps are not waterproof

Fitbit should make virtual treasure boxes.  

 

Each user starts out with X number of coins.  (Personalized coins can be purchased through Fitbit.)

 

Once you find the virtual treasure box, you can remove another users coin and leave one of your own.

Such a great idea and a fun way for the family to get active.  Would love to see this.  I think there's a lot of open source geocache datasources to develop against. 

 

You could extend the Fitbit Community functionality to allow people to "check-in" or even post selfies at caches on fitbit so you can see a history of folks and maybe ask people for help for those difficult to find caches. 🙂
