Individual "Self timer" to guided meditations list

In the Track your mindfulness category on Fitbit home screen, may I suggest you add a "self timer" option to your list of guided meditations. This feature would allow the user to set a time for how long they meditate, and do it on their own in silence, without having to listen to a guided recording. Maybe just have a nice chime when the time is up.

I would use this feature daily. As a matter of fact a few years ago I sent an email to Fitbit asking for the ability to track my own meditation practice. I really hope this feature gets added. It would be fantastic to be able to do that while capturing heart rate, HRV etc

Yes, please! Really miss this! Need to log my personal meditations.

I agree! I'd like to get credit for meditations other than Fitbit's rather paltry selection!

Just switched back to FitBit and very frustrated that I can’t log a mediation session unless I do a FitBit session.

How many more votes are needed to implement Individual Mindfulness "Self timer" idea??

It’a mind boggling that you added a new entire feature with Mindfulnes, that does allow to track or time Mindful minutes 🤯

From the moderator: 'If this suggestion receives votes from other customers and gains popularity, it will be shared internally with various teams at Fitbit.'

How any votes does this suggestion need to get noticed??

I would use this daily too. I’m not interested in any more mindfulness sessions other than what I already practice. Would just like to time them on my watch and it show up in my Acc

I'm going to chime in on this again.  The guided meditations are good for someone who wants to be told what to focus on, but for someone who is used to silent meditation, they are just annoying.  The "guides" tell you to enjoy the silence and to quiet your mind, but they never stop talking.  Instead of quieting the mind, the mind if full of the soft chatter of the guides.  The ones that are sounds only do not let you focus on your present moment.  My present moment is the sounds of my own environment (birds, the passing cars, the wind, the sound of the house fan, my own breathing), not a campfire thousands of miles away that someone recorded (or maybe even computer generated).  In other words the guided meditations are a good intro to mindfulness for someone who doesn't know what it is or if you want specifically to do a body scan or focus on a specific topic, but for someone who really wants to focus on their present moment, to be fully present in the moment, they don't help.  It's kind of like mindfulness in a box.  You cannot put the present moment in a box.

What a self-timer does is lets those of us who enjoy this type of practice enjoy it without interruption until we are done (which might be any amount of time), but still be able to measure and track it's impact on our heart rate.  This is invaluable.  Honestly, I'd be happy the functionality was available only in the app, but if it was on the watch too, that would be ideal.  We hope you will implement this idea soon.

I have been wondering why I cannot log my own Meditation sessions to my Fitbit. Its not like new sessions are added often & I've already listened to most of them. I would also like the option to either log a meditation session, or to have the self-timer for meditation on Fitbit.

It would be nice to be able to log meditation sessions that are not done through the Fitbit options. I’ve found that the sessions on other apps have been more helpful than the ones I’ve used in Fitbit. To see my total fitness process it is not a true picture without being able to see my true progress and whether I’ve met my all my goals. Please add an option to be able to monitor your mindfulness goals by manually inputting your data. You are currently able to go in and either add sleep or registered  or manually change the type of exercise, so the ability to make manual changes is already available within the app, it just needs to me added to the mindfulness option

I still would live to see this feature

Yes! Please add. This would be an awesome addition to the fitbit app (to track your own mindfulness sessions separate  from the included videos). I’m surprised its not already a feature.

I use ten percent happier for mindfulness and I’m very happy with there meditations. It sure would be nice to have the time spent on this app to be somehow connected to the Fitbit daily activity. I have been using some of the free mindfulness sessions within Fitbit at times but hate to spend additional money on the Premium service which I only would use for mindfulness. It would really be great if we could download the time spent on other apps to Fitbit to get a true picture of your practice of mindfulness.

Yes, manual logging of a silent meditation session would be awesome. I don’t even care if it does or does not monitor heart rate in that case. Just please let us count these sessions towards our mindfulness goals.

From another thread, it took them 2 years to add the option to log meditation in fitbit, and they geniously decided to put with the physical exercise. This thread is 2 years old, and It doesn’t seem like there’s much interest in it.
The options of fitbit for mindfulness are ridiculous, and behind a paywall. Sure, it’s not a meditation app, and so if one wants access to a decemt meditation library, it should cost extra. But a free TIMER of adjustable duration is basic. And if that isn’t there, at the very very least the option to log your mindfulness, as mindfulness, not exercise!

I can’t find the place in “log an exercise” the other reader is referring to. Please, we need an “add mindfulness session”!!

In the mindfulness section of Premium, include a meditation timer. Experienced meditators don't like guided meditations, as we are comfortable piloting our own minds. Give us the option to meditate on our own. Alternatively, allow us to log mindfulness done outside of the app.

Hi jchayes82. I am new (or back) to Fitbit and am in the same boat as you. It's very annoying. I just sat for the last 15 minutes searching out similar requests, and found at least one with like 400+ votes, but it was back in like 2020, I think. Or maybe before. As I understand it, preliminarily, a "feature suggestion" has to get enough votes in order to get onto the Fitbit developer table for discussion even.

SO ... given that, I am now looking for a place / way to sort of 'gather' as many like-minded people and funnel us into a single place to try to UP that vote count. I'm guessing 400+ is not enough since it still hasn't happened and it is nearing the end of 2022.

If I can make the time (lots going on in life at the moment), I'm going to keep trying for this. I'm going to bookmark your comment, so that maybe I can update you. Basically, I'm going to "try" to make this a personal project because it feels THAT important to me.

Actually, this is an excellent point. I am so impressed with all that fitbit premium offers, including the mindfulness choices. You have come a long ways! However, as you do serve a wide variety of users, this would seem something to consider, especially if it would be easy to add. But then, what is "easy? I sure love the exercise options, although a little more qigong would be awesome.

A routine for self-guided meditation which can be started and stopped using the device similar to workout routines (Workout, Walk, Run). The time spent in this will be logged in the mindfulness tab of the app.

Hi @lazorcat, thanks for taking the time to share this suggestion about being able to start and end your self-guided meditation routine on your Fitbit device with us. I noticed a similar idea was already requested in the Feature Suggestion board, so I’ve moved your post here. Please support this idea by adding your vote, this helps our developers to keep tracking its popularity and demand over time.

@LizzyFitbit

It seems that this another fork of the self timed mindfulness.

I've voted but I also see this was suggested two years ago. What else can we do to get the devs to bring this feature to the mindfulness suite?
