Longer Screen Time for Charge Trackers

I purchased my charge 3 after seeing it would have a Screen Time out Option.  It shipped without one.  Moderator Kate says it’s not available at this time.  The manual is now being changed to reflect that.

I really, really want/need that option.  It was the reason I chose the Charge.  That and my 50’s year old eyes.  The current screen only stays on for 3-4 seconds.  That is a very short amount of time.  I have to repeated tap the screen to read a text that comes in.  IF we are going to have the ability to get notifications, we need the ability to read them.

Please Fitbit, give us the option that was originally in the manual to change the screen time out.  The Versa has it, so I know it can be done.

Dear fitbit family,

I wish for my fitbit charge 3 to have longer time screen. I would appreciate additional 3 seconds please. How many likes or votes do you need to have this upgrade?

I've gone back to wearing my simple, analog watches. I can look at the watch face as long as I want.

So long, Fitbit.

Hi Yarpy Jogger,

thank you for commenting on the FitBit community forums. We are always here to help.

I understand you wish to watch you face on as long as you want? You can always carry a mirror. This is the best solution.

If you mean on your Charge3, then, sadly all of our programmers are away for Christmas 2017 and have not yet returned. We have tried to contact them, but hey, what can you do. They are probably busy writing the new apps for better devices, like our new Versa 2 and simply do not have time for you suckers who bought old things we only sold to be able to pay them. I know. But hey, google has even bought us now, so maybe, hahaha, maybe you can ask them, in the future. like, next year.

Any further suggestions, or helpful comments, please contact us here. We're Always here to help.

Signed,

And once again, thank you for joining the FitBit community, glad we could help!!

Why is this a consideration "If Enough Votes" ?

JUST DO IT. you know Nike...

It's taken ages for someone to bother and that is to just say "Yah, keep asking man"... FTS.

Im about to make a "How to upgrade your firmware on your Charge3 in one easy step."

"First, you place it on this nicely cut log"

"Then. You grab this healthy and heavy sledge hammer."

"Then. You swing the hammer in a downward motion."

"Then. You sit down and admire your perfectly functional and upgraded Charge 3"

"Then. You pour yourself a bourbon and drink it."

Fitbit had already assured me that they have no intention to fix this. I'll never buy from them again.

After purchasing and setting up the charge 3 the ridiculously short screen timeout was the first thing I tried to fix. Turns out EVERYONE has been complaining about this since its release to the point bloggers have talked about it. We are talking about constant feedback since 2018 and all that appears to have happened are moderators trying their best to blow smoke in our face and dangle a carrot in hopes of a fix. My question is a simple one why are the developers of Fitbit being so stubborn with this request ? the time out is clearly to short for most peoples preference and the technology to change screen timeouts has been around for decades, so whats the delay ?

PS. If u don't fix it at lest have the decency to advertise it on the box for eg: Comes with nonadjustable screen timeouts of 4 secs !

and lets see how many you sell then.

So this very basic (missing) feature was marked as Under Consideration back in February.  Has anything changed since then, or is the product team still sitting and staring at it?

Finally bought a charge 3, after 5 years using the old "One" that clipped onto a pocket.  Disappointingly short screen display time.  I searched for how to fix that and came across this forum.  As to why this issue has still not been fixed, possibly they want folks to buy the Versa or other more expensive model with that feature.   Or perhaps developers have determined that battery life will be too short with this longer screen times enabled.  Or there is some technical reason why it cannot be done.  Or a Charge 4 is coming out with this feature shortly.    I don't think the reason is that developers or nbn management is ignoring the feedback here.

Somewhat related, but for past month or so, my clock / display does not light up when I flip my wrist up.  did this change?   Is there a setting somewhere?   Seem to recall this coincided with an update.
Thanks in advance

Tap the screen to turn it on.

Keep the button on the left side depressed for about 1 to 2 seconds.

You will see a screen that says "Screen Wake" on the top and "Notifications" on the bottom.

Tap just above where it says "Screen Wake" and an icon looking like a light bulb will appear. That turns on the screen when you bring your wrist to reading position.

Then depress the button on the left for another 1 to 2 seconds to return to the main screen.

I also read that in some cases you have to do a power reset. To that you
need to plug it into the charger and then press the button for 8 seconds or
more. I haven't tried it myself, because the first method worked for me,
when my Fitbit went all dark even when it buzzed with notifications.

Thank you everyone.  I appreciate the tip

I think you are wrong in your assessment. I was told, about 6 months ago it
would be fixed if there were enough requests. I, personally, have seen
hundreds of requests. I think it’s more that they want to spend the time on
future products rather than support existing customers. We’ll see how much
Google cares.

Wait, ......what?!?  They update these things?!?

I will be returning my Charge 3, because  not having the option to customize how long the clock display stays on is a deal breaker.

Why on earth would this not have been made in the first place, or fixed by now?

I work in healthcare and need to have a watch to monitor patients.  I want specifically an activity tracker, NOT a smartwatch.

I love the idea of having multiple options, so long as one of them is at least 60 seconds

YES PLEASE. Fix the screen timeout. If it was there before, why on earth did you think it was a good idea to remove it?

IT was never on the C3! Only in the manual, witch they changed s soon as they got the many complains ! Fitbit is NOT going to fix this ! Read all the above ! The C3 is a useless watch without this feature!

Had charge HR for many years (not too bad, a few limitations), thought it was time for an upgrade to Charge 3, BIG MISTAKE! the 3-4 sec screen timeout is a JOKE! Fitbit have lost the plot and quite clearly have no intention to fix/modify this!

Other serious issues with this product as well, which could be mostly solved with more user configurable options!

Last fitbit product I will purchase, there are now many other better manufactures out there with better support and apps as well as more robust hardware.

Bought a charge 3 for Christmas. Timeout is waaaaaaay too short. Hardly enough time to glance at the watch. Please fix!!!

Having screen on for 3 seconds is stupid - They will not fix their old rubbish - do yourself a favour and go with the competition - bye fitbit

I also vote for an adjustable time out.  Next step if this not added, is to vote with my wallet,

The charge 3 is a great device an in my opinion much better than the inspire HR. I wish we could have the option for an always on display or a longer screen on time (more than 5 seconds).I realise this will reduce the battery life considerably but it last for 7 days anyways. I'd be happy to cut that down to even 24 hours if it meant I could see the screen for more than 5 seconds before it goes off. You barley have enough time to see the information displayed. An always on display option would be absolutely great and would make the charge 3 the best fitness tracker out there for this price. Please consider adding always on display. Please help me make this happen and leave a vote.

Hi @Andz89. Thanks for explaining why you'd like to have a longer screen time for your Charge 3 with us! I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can check this other suggestion here. Keep adding your suggestions!
