Longer Screen Time for Charge Trackers

I purchased my charge 3 after seeing it would have a Screen Time out Option.  It shipped without one.  Moderator Kate says it’s not available at this time.  The manual is now being changed to reflect that.

I really, really want/need that option.  It was the reason I chose the Charge.  That and my 50’s year old eyes.  The current screen only stays on for 3-4 seconds.  That is a very short amount of time.  I have to repeated tap the screen to read a text that comes in.  IF we are going to have the ability to get notifications, we need the ability to read them.

Please Fitbit, give us the option that was originally in the manual to change the screen time out.  The Versa has it, so I know it can be done.

I've given up on this forum, Fitbit are not taking any notice. The best way to get their attention is via Twitter or even an Amazon review but it looks like after waiting this long they really are not bothered what their customers think.

I would have to agree. Even a standard 10 seconds without the ability to change to a custom amount would make it alot more useful. this would not impact the battery life in any major way since the majority of users probably are waking the screen more often already. It also would not be a difficult or expensive change from a code perspective, since it obviously has a standard screen time implemented in sofware/firmware. It would only require to change the value, and I think the vast majority would be happy.

I would like for the display on my Charge 3 to stay on. I am a rower and I would like to monitor my heart rate without having to touch the FitBit. I would also like to use the timer feature to clock how long I am doing a particular exercise, such as a plank

Adding my voice to the chorus; the screen time is too short to be of any practical use. I see many comments asking for change were made two years ago so I’m not hopeful that any update will be made in the foreseeable future. I will be returning the two watches I bought for my parents today. Not happy.

Hi @u2canrow. Thanks for explaining why you'd like to have a longer screen time for your Charge 3. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can check this other suggestion here. Keep adding your suggestions!

Hey,   @LizzyFitbit , why don't you tell @u2canrow when that  suggestion was updated to "Under Consideration" so he will know that it is no longer realistic to think that it is still being considered? You lead these new people on to think their suggestion is actually being considered when we have 40 pages of comments dating back into 2018 that show it's not REALLY being considered, but it sounds nice to say so. Please tell us the last time this problem was mentioned in a meeting, what cost/benefit analysis is being done, how much programming time it would actually take to fix this problem given that the feature is readily available in your NEWER products.

I'm also a 50 year old (in June). The three second time out is way too short for me. Please add the ability to set an alternate timeout. I know this causes the battery to run out sooner. It's worth it to me. As it is now, I have to keep triggering it to come on again and again. I just received my Charge 3 today and this is by far the biggest downside of the device.

I'd return it. It's too late for me to return mine or I would. The only response I've gotten from them is that they will absolutely NOT fix it, in no uncertain terms.

This isn’t something hard or impossible to implement. When will the feature be available? Clearly no one cares about shorter battery life and everybody would still have option to chose freely between longer and shorter screen times.

I love my new Fitbit but I, too, need more than 3 seconds to view the screen and consider the data I am seeing.  I cannot understand why what seems like a very simple request has not been addressed in at least two years.  I can't imagine it's technically unfeasible.  If Fitbit has a good reason for why you cannot make this change, could you please inform your many customers who are begging for this feature?  If you don't have a good reason, please implement the feature immediately!  Otherwise, please close down these message boards because they seem to be pointless.  Thanks!!!

What do you think of a brand that ignores its customer user feedback for so long?
We'd have more impact on their brand reputation by posting our feedback on social média

As an EMT I bought this for a fitness tracker but also assuming I could use it as a watch for manual pulse rates. Now seeing that’s not possible makes it useless to me. This would not be a hard update. Figure out a way to make it happen already

Good to hear. The ONLY reason I don’t buy an Apple Watch today is I don’t
want to charge it every day - I need sleep analysis.

+1 to the Achilles heel of the Apple Watch - the daily charging requirement. I know I would routinely forget to charge it - and besides I want to keep it on while I'm sleeping. So that was my reason also for going with fitbit.

Fitbit is cutting their own throats and seem proud of it.

I got a response that said we're not going to fix it but we will on the new models.

Frankly even though I would have liked a longer timeout I have finally come to terms with it and figured out how it works. (At least for me.)

I have discovered that as long as I am touching the screen it does not time out which is a great help. Also swiping it up and back extends the display a few more seconds for me as well extending the display for about 5 to six seconds.

The issue with it not always displaying when you twist your wrist is due to how fast you do it. I tend to do it too fast then keep repeating it far too quickly a few more times out of irritation which does not work. It has taught me to take more time when twisting my wrist. Moving it slower works great. Or now I just prefer to just double tap it. Double tapping works great for quick access if it does not respond to a wrist swivel movement and frankly turning it to view it and then double tapping it when it disappears works for me as well.

I understand that some people cannot stop or pause to touch and hold the screen or dislike the idea of swiping back and forth so this may not work for everyone.

So ultimately even though I felt negatively about it at first and was undecided I have now changed my mind and am happy with my purchase.

Of course what works for me wont work for everyone but I thought I would just share what works for me and how I extend my viewing time which was all I asked for in the first place. Also the long times between charging is a massive boon in my honest opinion. Its new or because at my age I am not as active so maybe that's why my battery lasted 10 days instead of the advertised 7 days between charges.

Still despite its one shortcoming I am now happy with how it works for me.

Thanks Edededdy! I honestly never tried holding my finger on the screen to keep it active. It actually worked. It's not fixing the problem, but it is good to know.

If you want our piece of @#$!@# to work so you can watch your heart rate during exercise, change your screen on your phone to it's longest display setting, then start the app.  The active heart rate is displayed there and in my case, my phone screen will stay on for 10 min.  This is NOT how it our device should be used, but it will let you see it as you work out.  For my money, I'm getting the TIMEX IRONMAN R300 that is being released March 1.  I don't really need the built in GPS but this looks head and shoulders above what fitbit did with the charge 3.
