Lost Mode - Owner ID for Lost/Found Fitbits

I recently lost my Fitbit Flex on my university campus of 30,000+ students. My quest to find it has taken me to several departmental lost and founds as well as the Central Stores department where all lost things go to be sorted and auctioned.

My Flex was in a black band, and thus is completely indistinguishable from any other Flex in the same color band. At Central Stores they have two black Flexes, and I have no way of knowing if either band is mine.

I think there should be some sort of user/owner profile that can be activated when a tracker is lost, so whenever the tracker is synced or charged in a computer again, the owner's contact info is displayed. This way, people in search of their Fitbits could easily identify their own, and people who find them have a way of reuniting them with their owners.

On my search for my Fitbit I ran across at least ten other fitness trackers that had been lost in the last month, and the guy at Central Stores had little to no hope of ever getting them back to their owners. He says he wished their was a way of telling them apart so he could report them found.

Just think of headaches of Apple ID lock. It’s not worth it. Did you get robbed???

Not robbed but someone stole my Flex from the change room while I was swimming. So now I suspect someone else has paired it up and are enjoying it, plus any required technical support.....while I have no thing, and no hope o& ever getting it-back.

At least with Apple Lock they can locate your device, detect many aspects of fraud and, AND I have found Apple to have the absolute BEST Customer Service. On the few occasions I have dealt with Apple, they have been able to make me happy and keep me as a Customer. I do recognize that not everyone has had the same positive experience.

Thanks for asking!

I have 3 iPhone 5 and there’s nothing I can do I bought them on eBay. They make great paper weights I was even locked out of my Apple ID when I got a new one and had a new number. Had to wait 90 days to use paid apps. It sounds good but no. Imagine being locked out of your own Fitbit.

Yes, Apple does have stringent security and some frustrating processes. At least you have the phones still!

Someone else is enjoying my Fitbit now.

That is very interesting idea. I do think it is much more nuanced and requires a lot of different considerations because of the way reselling works. Look forward to more discussion on the matter!

Hopefully there is more discussion! Fitbit theft is a growing concern.....and a prosperous activity!

Recently my Fitbit Versa was stolen and it would be nice if there is a way to track if someone re-registers the same product.

You need to have some way of tracking a device by serial number. That way if a device is stolen, you can assist the police in tracking the culprit if the device is paired with another account.
