Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

Have to agree with the bulk of the comments here. I understand not wanting to completely get rid of it as some people clearly like it but for many of us Sleep Score is just a useless function. I've had absolutely terrible nights sleep of around 6 hours and got a higher sleep score than for an 8 hour good night where I wake up feeling refreshed. I'm sure there's a clever algorithm behind it that dictates why this happens but if it has no actual bearing on my health or well-being then it's just meaningless nonsense.

The best thing would be to give the option of changing which graph you land on first when you click the sleep widget so people who like Sleep Score can keep it and people who hate it can see their Hours Slept chart first and ignore Sleep Scores.

I finally figured out how the sleep score works.

When I slept 7 hrs. 59 min. and got 26 deep min. my score was Poor

Last night, I couldn't fall asleep and although I am a pescatarian who jogs 5 miles daily, I had a craving for buttered/salted popcorn at 3 a.m.

I slept a total of 3 hrs. 56 min. and only 5 deep and my score was Fair!

I'm thinking I'm on to something here. Maybe a tub of Lard, tonight and No Sleep will get me the top score!!!

I agree -- please make the sleep score optional, or at least put it after the total sleep time! It is maddening to have to see the sleep score without any choice. The sleep score is arbitrary and depressing but the hours of sleep actually relate to sleep goals and actually make sense.

Well, about a month ago I'm pretty sure they changed the metrics of the sleep analysis because I started getting 80s almost regularly as opposed to 70s and "good"s as opposed to "fair"s. Additionally they are now showing estimated Oxygen variation for free as opposed to inside the pay wall (premium). Its all good and well because frankly that is what Fitbit is known for, their good analytics and accessible user interface.

However, there is that SLEEP SCORE. The clear message from their user base is to make that score optional. I mean if I can actually make hourly steps an option (STEPS!!!), why cant the sleep score be such. Honestly, their reluctance to take this step has to be one of the most confounding things I have ever encountered.

Well put, Dajjer (Base Runner)!!! I, too, am completely confounded. We are coming up on a year since multitudes of people began protesting. I suspect SLOWLY they will fix it? So we live in hope and wait. So many have left in frustration. I invested in a Versa and I am not going to go out and buy another device yet. I will give them one year. Google has to make this right and understand the sleep problems people face and the judgment of a score that only makes them feel worse and not encouraged in the least! Quality of sleep is a nebulous thing. To have a sleep SCORE in the first place is completely idiotic! Get rid of the score!!!!

As a person in AFIB, my problem is that I get a sleep score 1 day per week. The rest is just hours slept. I really just want a running by week average of the average number of hours I sleep a week. This used to be the default.

To make things even more confounding, I (for fun) sleep with both a Versa
and a Charge 2 and don't get sleep scores that are even close. Explain
that one. I learned, a long time ago, to wear my Charge 2 on my ankle if I
want an accurate "steps" accounting. I don't swing my arms when I walk,
because I am frequently carrying something - so my Versa steps accounting
is significantly different from the Charge 2 on my on ankle. So are they
the "greatest"? Far, far, far from it.

Hi BlueMountain,
You may already know this but I'll post it again just in case it's helpful
to others (as it was to me months ago)..

If you’re using the app, at least on my iPhone X, you can see the average by
swiping left three times when you’re looking at the initial sleep data screen
(what you see after clicking the sleep icon on home screen) then using the
expand image (double-ended arrow) icon ... a PIA it’s true, but the data is
there.

Another way:
click “community” icon at bottom of home screen, then “What are you up to”
at very top of next screen, then the “sleep” icon

Brings up the most useful screen imho.

Come on Fitbit! You all are on here all the flipping time! At least give us an update on how you guys are doing?/I mean it's just selfish! Do you see all the people on this forum? How many people agree!? Vote for this post if you think Fitbit should do something about this and now!1

There are problems that we all contend with, some that perhaps, cannot be fixed or maybe just not immediately - like the coronavirus.

But, it seems like Fitbit is enjoying our frustration and anxiety because making this so called "sleep score" optional is an easy fix.

During these trying times, Fitbit could have been the "go to" where one has pleasure in acheiving results and moreover, feels in control.

We cannot control the spread of the coronavirus nor cure it, currently,  but surely Fitbit can give its users what we bought and paid for

and need to know.

It's stupid and bureauocratic to ignore resolving this issue once and for all, and wreaks of those governments in the world that don't care about their citizenry.

@SunsetRunner agree 100%! It took 2 weeks and multiple 'chats' and days of PMs (including screenshots) to get exercise break downs working.

Obviously, @Fitbit  thinks the longer they go we'll forget or get distracted from the sleep score. Keep commenting and reviewing.

So many have left b c of sleep score. Maybe @Fitbit  thinks they can garner new users. They should realize just to make an on/off option satisfies current users who will recommend them to new users. Bad I.T. decisions and sloppy marketing.

i totally agree, couldnt @Fitbit , just, like, delete 2 lines of code and it'll all be over???

Granacher

@SunsetRunner Yes they could if they wanted. Push premium with the sleep score on/off = all happy!

57 pages of 'under consideration' slamming and still no response. Fitbit, you are either dumb or insanely apathetic towards your customer base. Both I assume.

I abandoned my Fitbit in October over the sleepscore. I have missed tracking my heart rate during workouts and my steps but it's not a patch on being judged and criticized every morning by an arbitrary score on something I cannot control. I am sure Fitbit aren't losing sleep (!) over losing me as a customer as I already spent the money on the device now lying dormant in a drawer but I will not wear faulty tech and that's exactly what Fitbit is now.

It is helpful that people share how to get around fitbit’s insane addiction to keeping the sleep score. However it seems perverse that you can not just open Fitbit in the morning and seeing your hours slept. Instead you have to swipe left three times, tap, expand an icon. These workaround fixtures are not user-friendly. They do not indicate a company that is committed to serving its loyal customers.
Fitbit’s refusal to return two hours slept as the default and making its customers swipe, tap and expand is another dabbing example of how they have lost their way.

And they continue to be silent months and months after customers began to raise their concerns.

@DALwpg months of no action just indicates @Fitbit's disrespect for their consumers. It has become quite apparent they don't care about their base and word of mouth referrals. I have kept a file of emails received in response to this thread. Truly amazing how they don't care that many have left for other competitors. Those of us still here don't have the means ($) to go elsewhere. What was once a good, moderately priced tracking option has become a nightmare. Fitbit must be counting on picking up younger customers seeking a 'grade' on everything in their lives oblivious  to the $demographics of those users.

I've come to the conclusion that Fitbit don't see our complaints. Moderators are there to see we play nice with each other, not actually pass concerns on to anyone that matters. In my view, and perhaps a mod would like to chip in here, no one is listening.

I noticed this morning in the app (iPhone X) that on the first sleep screen
in the navy “This Week” bar, that underneath the ongoing sleep score
average for the week now appears a second line with the ongoing average
hours/minutes for the week also. This is new - maybe not today as perhaps
I’ve just not noticed it until today - but within the last couple of days.

HUGE step in the right direction as that data had previously been
obtainable only by multiple extra clicks and swipes!! KUDOS & THANKS ...
this is better!!!

Check it out y’all.

Oh, this is a fantastic update! While I still don’t like the score and would prefer to disable it, at least now I can easily see the weekly average without tons of extra swiping or tapping.

Can someone post a screenshot? I don't see what you're describing. Am updating my iPhone right now so maybe will see something like that on mine. Thanks for posting this!

Bravo Jaimie!  It only took Fitbit 8 months to bring back the average weekly hours of sleep.

We are, however, still stuck with the ludacris "sleep score" based on absolutely nothing.
