I'd like to be able to log and plan my food in advance. This would help me plan for social outings and help me stick to my healthy eating plan. I'm sure research shows that if you plan and write it down in advance you are more likely to succeed with weight loss.
@MattPickford You already can log food in advance, at least using the web site. (It doesn't look like the Windows Phone app allows logging food in the future, I don't know about the Android and/or iOS apps...)
Need an APP that allows us to go to a food category and select food item and quantity with an approximate caloric equivalent which we can then add to our dashboard.
It's great that we can track food as we go but there's nothing worse than logging your dinner just to find out you ate too many calories. I personally like to plan ahead and would welcome a food planner that would allow me to set a meal plan for each day, or even upto a week or month ahead. When logging the food I then actually ate, I'd have the option to say that I ate according to my food plan and log whatever I had prepared for that meal of the day (say, breakfast) and all planned breakfast content would get copied over to the food tracker. If I ate something different than I planned, I'd log the food the way we do now.
It would make my life much easier knowing that my meals are already planned and they match my calorie goals so I won't have to worry about counting on as I go.
Daily meal plan would also make a great dashboard tile.
It would really help to be able to log food ahead. The weight watchers application was allowing it which decreases the chances of going over budget since everything is already planned !
This is a great idea, however is already an existing feature in the Fitbit Dashboard. The way to do this, is just to move forward the date in the calendar of the Food Plan section and introduce the meals you have planned for future days.
I agree. Not sure about a new tile but would be awesome to be able to go at least a few days in advance on the calorie counter and put in your menu . It helps you stay on track easier.
I agree!! I would love to be able to plan my food ahead of time! I pack my breakfast, lunch and snacks each evening for the following day. It would be terrific if I could log ahead of time, to get a sneak peak into my days calories.
I'll be checking out the desktop version today, but I agree that this would be really handy on the app.
For example, it's morning, and I'm packing my lunch. I want to be able to scan everything in as I go, but if I scan items now, they'll be added to my breakfast.
I agree. This would be a really nice feature. In fact before I saw this suggestion, I made a similar suggestion in a post in which I asked that they add a Daily Pantry. Basically the same idea, though. I know you can add foods to future days, but that doesn't really help you when you want to add foods that you plan on eating today, but haven't eaten them yet. Also, you can't actually move foods you enter in future days, back to today, so that current feature does not really address this need.
You can add all the food you want to eat that day you just can’t plan ahead. They need to look at the weight watchers app. Its awesome. You can plan ahead, put it as a breakfast lunch dinner or snack.
Well, this feature was available until yesterday on the webpage, in the food log section.
Sadly, this is no longer available. Along with other features that have been removed.
With the new update of food log:
* I can no longer plan out my meals a day ahead
* No longer see the weight of each food. This is only visible after clicking on every single item.
* I can no longer see the split of carbs, fats and proteins in grams. I can only see percentages, which isn't very helpful when you're trying to hit a target in grams for each of the macros.
I'm wondering if Fitbit is planning to make these features available again to it's users with the next update, or if we're just left to search for another food log app or another wearable device that offers all of this along with the standard functions.
I plan out my weekly meal schedule on the weekends. The food diary only allows food to be added for the current date or prior. It would be great if I could add items days in advance when I plan out my meals. That would make life easier as I could us it as a reference each morning to remember what I had planned. As it stands now, each day I have to remember what I had planned on the weekend and then fill out the diary which is time consuming during the busy work week.
I love this idea! I think it would be great if the website also let you select what type of diet you want to follow and tailored the suggested foods by season (it can be hard to find certain things in the winter). I would pay a premium for it to design a zone diet plan for me every week based on how many blocks are needed for my current weight and what ingredients are likely to be available at the store during that time of year.

We need the basics sorted out. It's almost 2021, please force your development team to actually make software suitable for families/household use. Currently it really looks like your entire team is single. How else is there no sensible method to share input foods and meals?
