Medical ID Wristbands/ICE (In Case of Emergency)

It would be a great idea to add the medical alert logo to the flex band in case of a medical emergency. Older adults today are living longer, more active lives than the generations before them. The medical alert symbol and information can be incorporated into a stylish watch or a bangle-type bracelet, among many other options.

Medical IDs give paramedics and health care providers a quick look at your medical history in an emergency. They usually include information about medical conditions, food or drug allergies, medical devices (such as a pacemaker), and medications. This data can also be in sync with your Smartphone.

I love my fitbit blaze and I also love my Squid ( https://www.myidsquare.com/ ) what I hate is having to wear them both. I would be much happier wearing just one device.  Maybe fitbit could work with one of these companies to deliver something that does both.

RoadID does not support Fitbit Blaze btw ChristieLeeEMT

I got the Road Id for my charge 2. It fits on the band.

The problem is EMT’s, Medics, etc. look for the med alert sign. They won’t know to read your fitbit unless there is a visible med alert on it.

That’s why I suggested an engraved band.

Actually they could just have something on the wristband - forget the Fitbit part - like a wristband with the med id on the front, condition on the back.

Could you add an option to your bracelets? I would like to have a private window where I could list all my allergies, medication, & start of menstruation dates. I wouldn't want friends to access it in my profile, but I would like medical professionals to be able to scan my bracelet if they needed to in an emergency & access any helpful information. I have a fitbit Alta. Could you add this option into one of the sleek bands & not a clunky watch? Thank you!!

I'd also want to add my emergency contacts & my doctor/his office/his phone number. ☺️👍

Hi @FluffyLuffySan I've added your feature suggestion to this one. I'm not sure what you mean by 'private window' that could be scanned - if you want to elaborate, that would be helpful. This likely won't happen on Fitbit Alta but this suggestion exists around providing medical info on a Fitbit. Thanks

Hi!
What I meant by private window is like on your personal profile information there’s a side page or an extra tab that your medical info is on and can be updated in. And, that its not open for your friends to see or read. That way only medical personnel can access the information when they scan the wrist or bracelet. I hope that helps clarify things. 🙂 Please write if you need anything else. Thanks!

Many seniors suffer from dementia  They wear a watch--if the GPS function could be used for tracking them ie help locate them when they wonder this would be very helpful--they would not object to the watch the same way they object to a tracker.

also if there could be a button to summon 911 in the case of emergency this would also be great

I know these are not your current demographic but soon they will be almost half the population so finding ways making that daily walk more secure would be very helpful to everyone

Here here!

A slider would be a great idea, similiar to the ones provided by ‘getmyid’ in the USA. They have reversible sliders you can add onto your band. On one side you could put the medical id symbol and condition, and on the other side an Incase of emergency number.

Im currently trying to find something in the uk that is similiar to this but I’m struggling!

I am looking for a Fitbit that is also a medical alert ID for my 13 year old son. I believe this feature would help so many people. Thank you.

Love this idea! I love the ideas of the sliders to add on. Maybe Fitbit can work with the myid thing. Since they are already known for medical alert items. Make life easier for everyone that loves Fitbit and has a medical condition.

As one who was recently diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and am on blood thinners I certainly would appreciate an option to swith on a medi-alert that could be either stand alone or linked to my phone medical data.

I just wanted to give a suggestion. I think it would be great if fitbit added an emergency screen. Who to contact in case of an emergency, their phone number ect.   That way if someone is having a health issue or need and are not able to communicate, the emergency crews can contact that person to find out about medications or other heath problems.  Just a thought.

Hi @Janas and commenters, I can see this is a popular suggestion! Our developers are keen to get more information from you as to how this would look exactly.

  • Do you want this on your Fitbit band? What would it be - the logo on the band?
  • Could this be a clock face instead maybe?
  • Or even an app with more information about allergies etc?

Keen to hear your thoughts.

Any of these would be nice. I wear my fitbit all the time. So it would be
helpful. If something happens the information would be right there. The
band should have something on it to let them know of health issues.

Thank you.

Hey,
I meant for people just to have a regular Fitbit. However, if a medical professional scanned it it would show a list of all the things I had mentioned previously.
If you go to where it says personal stats, badges, and groups- well make another tab. Let someone include their medications, emergency contacts, and allergies. It would only be a tab (window, page, what have you) the personal user would see, UNLESS a medical professional scanned the Fitbit somehow and could bring up that private window. Idk, put a chip in it like they do for dogs when they get lost.
I hope that makes more sense. I am sorry if you’re not getting what I am meaning. 😞
Thank you. Have a good evening.

Hi,

I feel very frustrated. I know that I relinquished rights the minute I shared my idea. I did it for the greater good and because I knew it would help/benefit so many people. I am afraid your going to take something simple, smart, and easy and RUIN IT. Please don’t. I know you can do what you like with it, but please use logic here. No one wants a huge heavy bulky watch, okay? This should be on every regular fit bit band you put out from now on, for everyone. Not just the people that buy the special medical Fitbit. Good grief.

And if you have ever found a phone at a mall- you can’t open it to see the phone numbers and return it. An app is a dumb idea. Seriously! No one can get into a phone, except the user. And if you are in a car wreak- your phone could break or be thrown to who knows where. No app, nice thought but not realistic for long term. I know wrists can be smashed and fit bits could come off in a given situation. However, its more practical than a phone app. If a man is having a heart attack- medical staff isn’t going to be digging through his pockets hopefully looking for a phone with a possible medical app. They are in a hurry and trying to save lives. The more fit bits you put this feature on though, the more common. The more common, the more medical professionals will know to scan the bracelet and check. You could brand it as innovative and that Fitbit goes everywhere with you or is always there for you. The brand that cares about your whole over all health. Please do not **ahem** this up. I beg you. If could be cool and accessible to all age groups, not just older folks.

EMTs, Paramedics, ER Doctors don’t “scan” anything. We look for bracelets, necklaces only after we have you in route to the ER. No one will look at your phone, wallet, etc.

I am a Alameda County EMT.

If it was a clock face it would need to be visible all the time, it maybe better on a band, it could be an extra that could clip on to a band, this would indicate that you have information on your watch that would contain the necessary facts of your alert.

It could be on the band - either a band with a Medi Alert logo on it -or something to put on the band. It needs to be visible, yet not overly obvious -

I would like a non metal - similar metal to the band itself just in case something happens to the watch and you can't access the main screen, Just having the symbol would help. Having a clock face with a way to add our condition.
