More clock/watch faces for the Charge 3!

So, the Charge 3 is out and there is a huge let down:

There are only 5 clock/watch faces:charge 3 clock.png

Come on Fitbit...at least include all the Charge 2 watch faces too. We all loved the Charge 2 watch face with the time, date and the highlighted feature (steps/heart rate etc.)

Whats missing:

- Faces with the actual DATE and DAY

- Faces with a DIGITAL SECONDS TIMER

Or to say it again, just include the Charge 2 watch faces. Thanks in advance.

Completely agree, it should be more customizable and be open to 3rd party clock faces designed by the community. To think that I spent over 100 dollars to buy this device, and it only gives me clockfaces of watches I could buy for 5 dollars amazes me

Somebody within Fitbit design team decided that the Charge 3 is just a watch. The time is bigger than ever... so it’s now a time-centric activity monitor. Wrong focus. Looks like an afterthought.
Go back to what matters and bring back Ch 2 retro face with Time, Date, Steps, and HR and the other faces that so many people so much liked.

I completely agree!  The Charge 2 had much more useful clock faces. The most critical need is something that shows: 1) Time (in an easily readable digital format), 2) Date, 3) Steps, 4) Heart Rate.  We had this with the Charge 2, I can't believe we don't have it with the Charge 3.

I see that you have added different clock faces with different astetic appearances. However you still can only show the same information. It would be nice to be able to have your main tracking goal, like calories burned, on the clock face. Very limited choices now, just date, steps, and heart rate. The Charge 3 is more simplistic than it is cutting edge. Which is how I've heard others describe it.

Yes please, wayyy more watch face options. Any chance of putting your own photo? That would be my choice, even if black and white only option

I would just like a fit bit clock face that includes bpm date and time with number of steps if you can make one with all four of those things I won’t complain

Totally agree with the comments above ... my opinion is: either you allow 3rd-party watch faces (so that users can create new possibilities by themselves) OR you should offer FAR more options ... what’s the “risk” in offering many different choices (as to the watch faces)? I don’t assume it is such a heavy programming effort. Above all, I would like to have, as many many other users have pointed out, the possibility to have date, time, steps and HR together on the same screen. Thanks

Another must-have implementation is to let the user decide the time amount the screen remains on ... I perfectly understand that this would impact the battery duration, BUT, if the user is willing to accept a shorter battery duration in exchange for it, why not allowing him to set a longer time (eg. 5-10 seconds) before the screen turns off? I definitely ask for more customization, since I think that you can far expand the possibilities to allow custom choices without messing up with the watch functionality (as I suppose there could be the fear that an extreme customization might make the whole functionality more sluggish, untidy or even more prone to errors or crash-ups)

So how long does it take to create these faces? They just put out the Stacked and Punctual.Stacked.jpgPunctual.jpg

Do you think the two designers could have worked together to maybe put the day on the same line as the date in the Punctual, like maybe

We 1/1 and just call it ordinary/normal/clock face instead of Stacked (but lacking) or Punctual (but lacking)? No Fitbit data in these faces, but if they changed the date line to a day and date line you could at least use it like a normal watch.

Then they introduce two other new faces:

Interlaced.jpg3D-clock.jpg

Maybe I missed it somewhere in this thread and someone can point it out to me, but was there a big (or any) demand for large weird digits for the hours and minutes that take up almost all of the screen space, but give a little room for heart rate or whatever? Maybe I missed all of those posts?

Were there any posts for something like this:

A-Charge-3-clock-face-idea.jpg

Why yes, I think a face like this one would make a lot of people happy - at least looking in this thread.

If FitBit wants to make all of those other faces, then fine, but please just put in good utilitarian faces like the one directly above then go crazy with the faces we'll never use.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

First the good, thank you Fitbit for recently adding the "Charge 2 Retro" face.  It is legitimately a step in the correct direction.  I say this as someone highly critical (over the past two months).  It is almost enough.

Here comes the bad, it is not truly retro.  Specifically, it fails to acknowledge the many, many (and one more time), many requests for a face that includes the four (not three) basic stats that are actually available with Charge 2.  These are...quite specifically: Time, Date, Steps, and HR.  I encourage you to count the number of similar requests in this thread.  I am willing to bet they outnumber all other requests.

Now, for the ugly.  This is complicated.  Here, I want to blame only Fitbit.  However, I find this to be unfair.  Here, I find fault with both Fitbit and the users in this community.  Please allow me to explain.

On the user front, this thread has fragmented into multiple incompatible goals. First, it includes many posts related to the original complaint, which could be easily implemented.  Second, it requests features that are quite difficult to implement.  Often, these are only peripherally related to the original complaint.  Third, it defends the status quo.

Regarding the third category, I simply ask "Why?".  I freely admit, this product has many wonderful features! There are many topics already praising this product.  I heartily encourage you to share your praise in one of those topics.

Like many others, I need no convincing.  I am already excited by this product.   I very much want to purchase it.  Otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time posting.  In my case, I simply want a single additional item of information (four total).  I also hope for better visibility (bigger fonts / less gray scale).  I only ask this so that my poor over-40 eyes can actually see this information.  Please don't begrudge me these simple requests.

Regarding the second problem, on the Fitbit front, this exposes an unfortunate tendency of moderators to group (seemingly) related requests into a single topic, without proper consideration of the difficulty of implementation.  It also exposes the tendency of some users to add onto an existing topic, no matter how poorly matched, instead of creating a new topic.

This inability to assess difficulty may be the most harmful to this discussion.   As a software engineer myself, I am acutely sensitive to the "simple" suggestions we receive on a daily basis from users.  For a taste of this experience, I highly encourage non-engineers to search YouTube for a short comedy sketch entitled The Expert.  While I love engineering, this clever sketch provides a glimpse of the hellish existence that sometimes accompanies my, otherwise, enjoyable profession.

Almost all of the suggestions in this thread are great.  I hope, eventually, all of them find a place in the product.  However, for those requesting 3rd party faces and user-customizability, please start a new thread (and object if Fitbit re-classifies you).

Customizability and 3rd party faces can be implemented (a bit more difficult than fixed information).  This is where I hope we eventually go.  However, given that it took over two months to simply add a fixed date, how long do you realistically think this will take?

Can we please get one more simple baby step (four stats instead of only three), before we try for this laudable goal?

Better yet, instead of a "more faces" topic, can the customizable-crowd start a "customizable faces" topic?

Fitbit moderators, can you please stop merging these two very different topics?  That way, both of these customer groups get a voice.   We can allow a combination of vote count and difficulty prioritize these goals (for the development team).

Personally, I'll vote for both, but trust that the development team will go for the "low hanging fruit" first.

Yes, great post Techfan,

Somebody previously suggested that there must be problem putting four parameters on the clock face. I'm sure they would have done it by now if they could. I hope that if that is so, then it is a software problem that they can solve. If it's hardware based and not fixable then I'll be demanding my money back or a replacement with a new model. They don't tell us anything!

I'm 72, i've had a knee replacement, I have occasional atrial fibrillation. I don't run or go to the gym, walking is my form of exercise so i'm not interested in anything but Time, Date, HR and Steps.

Hi,  I think a lot of people are looking for a clock face option like this one (assuming my photo attaches).  I  don't always have my reading glasses on and most of the watch faces are impossible to see without them.  Additional options that replace the steps with the other major items on the dashboard would be good as well.  Thanks.

Suggestion for Large Font Charge 3 Clock Face

Hi,  I need reading glasses and I don't always have them on.  A larger font clock face would be very helpful as the current Charge 3 clock faces are nearly impossible to fully see, except for the time, and are even difficult to see with glasses.  Don't use grey, we need fully lit, high visibility font.  Also offer alternate faces that substitute out the number of steps with the other dashboard options people follow.  Thanks.

Large Font Clock FaceSorry guys, trying to figure out posting photos.  Doesn't work as expected.  Anyway, Large Font Clock Face.  Need it to see it.  Thanks.

I bought a Fitness tracker, not a watch, yet I cannot read the figures that are important to me...Heart Rate, Distance, Steps, etc. My over 40 eyes cannot read these without reading glasses. I can read the time but nothing else.

The smart Fitbit people can design a tracker that can continuously monitor your HR and O2 and sleep patterns, but they cannot design a face that you can read. Come on.

I believe the best option I have is to return the Charge 3 and go back to my Charge 2 until I find a better fit. I blindly upgraded to the 3 without thinking that Fitbit could spoil a well designed device and give us something that is a step back in such an obvious and visible feature.
Also, Fitbit has the tendency to implement very, very few suggestions from the community. They seem to have very little coordination between what they put in a new product and real usability. Imagine, these clock faces with the time in huge font and the HR and Steps in a very little font. And no date at all. This is an activity monitor, not a wall clock..!
It is not a HW issue. Cannot be, since Charge 2 has all four values on the retro face. (Time, Date, HR and Steps).
The best course of action for me is to return the Ch 3 and go back to my faithful Ch 2.
Have a nice day you all.

Wanted to add my vote for more clock faces. I've had all 3 HR versions. I really like the Charge 3 other than the limited number of faces. The Charge 2 had more useful clock faces. I used the face that showed:Time, Date,Steps, and Heart Rate. Currently using the Retro face that's close to what I want. Thanks for a great update!

I need a clock face that includes the day as well as the date. My Charge 2 had an analog watch face with both the day and date.

I agree with u Miguel I have my charge 2 I’m completely happy with for a couple of years now.Maybe someday there will be one just like charge 2 that is waterproof?🤷‍:female_sign:That’s the only thing I wanted was a waterproof one like charge 2.The charge 2 has been the best one so far too me because I like the size of it so the other ones r to big or small for me.I love putting on my own bands from amazon especially the magnet metal ones now that I can dress it up more.thank goodness they made charge 2 where u can change bands because old charge bands sucked too small face and peeling lousy bands that soooo many people had problems with in less then a year.thank goodness for charge 2 has been holding up never had any issues with mine ever love it.

The Fitbit email from co founders of Fitbit did any one read that?I wish those two co founders would take the time to look over this feed and put in their 2 sense to this.ridiculous that they don’t I don’t care how busy u r if they have Time to do that email and put their signatures to it they should have time to voice their opinions here too James Park and Eric Friedman co founders of Fitbit?

I’m still going to follow this thread though in hopes someday for a good review on a waterproof Fitbit exactly the same quality as charge 2 or even better upgrades like suggested from sooooo many people.some one way back said it took Fitbit 6 months to fixed correctly another Fitbit that came out.so I will see what happens in this next year if they fix this or come out with another one to fix it?🤷‍:female_sign:

I'm glad to see new updated clock faces, but I'd like to have a Charge 2 Retro face that includes seconds. It would also be good to have a setting where the Fitbit vibrates on the hour. My Timex Ironman beeps on the hour, and it's very useful for keeping track of my day.

I've owned a Fitbit Charge, and now a Charge 2, for many years.  I was eager to see the Charge 3 come out, until I realized the limits on the clock faces available, such that a face that just matches the Charge 2 is not available.  An even greater set of faces should have been available when the Charge 3 was released.  I'm now researching other brands of monitoring devices.  Fitbit has definitely lost its 'leading edge' on the market, and has fallen way back in the pack.

A disappointed former customer.

I agree. New models should always be new and “improved”. Have at least what the previous version had, but also extras. Think they’re trying to push out too many new models and producing sub-par products.
