Option to Rollback to previous Firmware or give the option to deny to do it

My charge 3:worked great and my Android app works great. The last firmware update messed up my sleep, water, weather on my device. I have dealt with customer support to basically get no answer or fix. Was even told my phone wasn't 100 % compatible. Ok my charge 3 and phone were both 100% compatible before the firmware update and phone app still is . The issue is with the charge 3 only after the update. The app still shows everything the device does not. I think it would be a GREAT idea to add a feature to your app that has a software and firmware version shown including when they were updated and a tab that says 'having issues after update?' click here to restore your device firmware to a previous version.. click here to restore your app to the previous version. Would help people like me get their Fitbit fully functional and 100% awesome again. Please take this recommendation to whomever can make it happen. Thank you.

Hello @Fatherofgrace.

Thank you for sharing your experience and your idea for an option to go back to previous firmware versions. Having an option like that could be useful for users that experience issues after an update, like you did.

Let's see what other users think.

Given the significant problems experienced by Charge 3 users who have installed Version 28.20001.60.39 I believe that the Software Development Team must provide an easy link to allow users to rollback to the previous version of firmware they were using.

Because the entire world's commerical software-enabled industries rely on the ability to roll-back flawed releases (and they do it regularly), it's quite reasonable to make the previous Charge 2 firmware release available to re-install - especially given the mounting evidence in the Charge 2 community posts that it's flawed.

My Charge 2 worked PERFECTLY until it was updated with firmware version 22.58.0; late August, 2019.  The battery lasted an average of 5 days prior to the update, and immediately thereafter, it expires in just 4-5 MINUTES.  The tracker works fine while plugged into a power source, but as you can imagine, one cannot function while one's wrist is tethered to a battery-pack!  Furthermore, if the update has damaged the battery, it's not serviceable so our hands are tied.

Note: Offering a discounted replacement tracker is NOT the appropriate solution.

Hi @belwood, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has a lot of votes. As the more votes and comments an idea has the more visibility and momentum it gains. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

Although I chose to distinguish the Charge 2 issue from the Charge 3 problem in that suggestion, I recognize that I was asking for the same concept, so yes, they belong under the one umbrella.

Is there any new information on this happening? My blaze no longer works due to an update and would really appreciate a rollback.

I am having an issue with my Charge 3 not logging steps when I run.  This has only happened since the last firmware update.

When I started using my Versa, I was having a lot of trouble with the heart rate light frequently turning off or with my heart rate not displaying accurately. I followed all the recommended steps multiple times which didn't solve my issue.

Finally it seemed like it was working more consistently for a couple weeks, as long as I kept my watch charged more than 50% at all times.

After the recent firmware update, most of the time I check my watch the heart rate light is off and the heart rate shows up blank. Based on research, it's clear that there are major issues with the fitbit heart rate monitor. Seems like the least they could do is allow firmware rollbacks when this type of thing occurs.

I have had my Charge 3 now for half a year or so. Now my wife's charge 2's display failed so I bought her a charge 3. I set it up for her and synchronized it with her iPhone. That is where I discovered the clock face options. I changed the face to the Charge 2 dual view. I liked that view so much that I thought it would be nice to have on my own Charge 3. I accessed my fitbit app on my Android device (version 6.0 Marshmallow), went to the clock face change, selected the "Dual view face" and watched the teal circle go around and around for about 15 minutes. I cancelled that operation. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I rebooted my Charge 3 several times. To no avail. I went to my laptop and connected the Charge 3. Going to the face change screen, same result.. circle going around and around. After this failed attempt I even plugged in the old Bluetooth dongle that came with my Charge 2 and forced the settings accordingly. Same result. Circle was turning...

This morning I even went so far as to delete all the user data from my fitbit via the context menu on the fitbit itself. As soon as it came back up it had the 184 steps STILL logged. After deleting all the user data the screen should have shown the setup link, as if the device was fresh out of the box.

To sum it up:

* I cannot change the clock face on my Charge 3.

* I cannot access the "advanced settings" on the app (same circle-go-around as in face change).

* I cannot factory reset the Charge 3.

The Dev Team definitely screwed the pooch either on the app or the device firmware. But since I cannot downgrade to the previous version I will not be able to find out. I am ROYALLY in favor of a downgrade option.

I’m now having this issue with the Fitbit inspire HR. I’m so annoyed with Fitbit for making me update the firmware and then screwing my device up. I now have a personal trainer and the Inspire HR claims I do nothing those days. Infuriating and this is my second useless Fitbit, my old one just stopped working one day and I replaced it with this. Error, shouldn’t have bothered if they can’t even roll out decent  firmware.

I would like to see the option of either accepting or opting out of doing a firmware update available on the mobile apps (iOS and android) and Windows implemented.

Hi @SunsetRunner, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to accept or deny to do the firmware update available. Thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request.  A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon.

Is there even a way to reset firmware to default? It sounds like people have been requesting this since may of 2019

I'm also thinking of rolling back the firmware of my Inspire HR to what I originally had, which was 1.63. I was able to log the food I ate previously, but this app doesn't record it any more.

I have already purchased and exchanged two Versa 2 watches since June 21st, 2021.

What took down the first watch was the UPDATE on June 26th, 2021.
Then all my heart stats were wiped out and didn't even function as I liked.

Then I got an exchange on July 4th, 2021.
And everything was back to normal.
With all my stats.

July 21st, update....

Hi @FrancisArturo, thanks for sharing this suggestion about being able to roll back or deny a firmware update available for your Fitbit device with us. This idea was already requested in the Feature Suggestions board, so I’ve moved your post here. This will help us to make sure the suggestions don't get confused, or split a popular vote. I'm sorry to say this people but if fitbit had a rollback or a downgrader for there range, they wouldn't make money. They wouldn't sell half as many watches if the units didn't brake I've had 3 blaze watches in the last 4 years. Every update that was sent out bugger the charger chip or the battery in the watch.

I replaced the battery in each watch with the exact battery that came out. And still the watch wouldn't hold a charge. Fitbit will NEVER allow old updates or rollback updates.

Bite the bullet and go for a Garmin

While I agree that you should be able to deny an update. It is a slippery slope as people never update and allow their device to become a security risk. There is a lot of personal data and potentially credit card information linked to devices than can be exploited.

My suggestion is two fold.

1. Have a defer/rollback option and have an option to submit a comment on why. This will give the devs more information to work with.

2. To have detailed update information on the changes made firmware and OS. This will inform the user of recent changes and bugs. It's all good telling the user you have fixed bugs but which ones? Also knowing about potential security issues and vulnerabilities is key as the user can take precautions or be reassured that the vulnerability is fixed.

@SunsetRunner honestly if I put the money together on my three fitbits I could have just bought a garmin. They don’t have update issues? My blaze is a brick and they aren’t doing updates on older models so most of us are just out of luck. It’s a shame. I liked their product but this just feels shady.

I'd like that option, too. I miss being able to share the number of steps I've gotten in.  😕
